Asp.net - TextBox Password Mode Filling Itself?

Aug 22, 2011

I have a website where the user enters a combinations of login and password to enter.I have some other page where the user has the ability to change the password. I added there 3 textboxs in password mode (actual, new, and confirm). The odd thing is that the first textbox is being filled automatically with the password that i enter on login and that is stored in Firefox. If i do this on IE (where i don't have the password saved) this doesn't happen. Also, this issue completely solves itself if i change the mode on the textboxs.Am i missing something here? I obvisouly don't want the password to be filled automatically which would take away the whole purpose of the textbox.

Password Characters - Get A Textbox Being Using For Password Entry To Display The Black Circle

Feb 10, 2009

How do you get a textbox being using for password entry to display the black circle that you often see in web forms, on the iphone etc etc?

I can change the PasswordChar property to an asterisk no problem and even copying and pasting symbols inserted into Word seemed to work - just couldn't find a symbol that looked like a bullet point!

Can this actually be achieved for a standalone exe, or is it something unique to web forms? Surely copying and pasting symbols from Word isn't actually the answer?

Filling Textbox In A Webpage?

I have been struggling very much trying to figure out how to get my vb program to enter a comment into myspace's comment box...I am trying to get this working cause I am managing some myspace pages for some bands/artists and would like to automate the commenting for new friends. When I automate the filling of a webpage's textbox, I use this kind of

webbrowser1.document.getelementbyid("HTML ID/NAME").setattribute(value, mycomment.text)But this seems to not work with the html elements on myspace's comment textbox...The html code I found for myspace's comment box is this:

<div contenteditable="true" class="smartEdit" data-tip="Post a comment...">Post a comment...</div>

VS 2008 Mouse Pointer Disappears When Filling Textbox?

Jan 31, 2011

I have a main form "Parent" and another "child" form. When I am filling a textbox in the child form the mouse pointer disappears. Then I hit the tab key to jump to a combobox. At this time when I move the mouse, the pointer doesn't come up until I click the mouse button. This is annoying and the user of my program doesn't like it. How can I keep the mouse pointer always on top. NOte: although the main form has the parent property as true, the other child form are not defined as child forms.

DB/Reporting :: Cannot Save Textbox In Multiline Mode?

Jan 29, 2009

I am quite new to visual basic and databases. Im connecting to the database using the dataset wizard in visualbasic 2008. And then dragging each text field on to the form. Everything works well, saves etc., updates ok. Until I have a multiline text box , when I try and save, Iget errors highlighting the table update code and get an error saying it cant be converted to a string. I have changed all the max text limit on the database so its not that. It works ok if I set the textbox back to a single line mode. Does these databases support multiline textboxes?

C# - Deploying App To Production Using Debug Mode Rather Than Release Mode?

Oct 28, 2010

I work for a shop that maintains a fairly new app. The app still has its fair share of bugs, with numerous tickets coming in daily. The error information we're given with those tickets is not as useful as it might be because the application was compiled in Release mode, which I read is smaller and faster (makes sense).

Are there any ramifications to deploying a .NET application to production that was compiled in Debug mode? I would expect it would be a bit slower, but I've read the difference is nominal. This would assure us that when we get errors on tickets we have line number associated with those errors and this, of course, makes debugging much easier. major red flags that would prevent you from doing this? I'm tasked with researching the possibility.

Make A Webbrowser Login On A Site (filling Textbox And Clicking Login)?

Jun 18, 2011

I've been trying to make a app that logs into a website. So far it didn't work for me.I have trouble because:

- The "pin" (username) box on the site doesn't have an ID. (Can't use getelementbyid)

- The picture doesn't have an ID either

Codes I've tried:

With WebBrowser1.Document
.All("pin").InnerText = "mypinhere"
End With
End Sub

This should have, in my opinion, filled in the textbox. Now I need to click the login button? Also I found this in the source of the site:

<img src="/media/img/text_AccountPin.gif" alt="Account Pin" width="93" height="10" border="0"> <input type="text" name="pin" class="form" size="15"> </p>

As we can see, it says

name="pin"

So I should be able to use "getelementbytagname" right? Also, the formId is logmein (log me in)

<form id="logmein"....

This is what I came up with:

Dim webbrowserDocForm As HtmlElementCollection = WebBrowser1.document.GetElementsByTagName("logmein")
For Each curElement As HtmlElement In webbrowserDocForm
Dim controlValue As String = curElement.GetAttribute("Value").ToString

[code]....

in the next code it's tagname is "input" or "text"? Because I found:

<input type="text" name="pin" class="form" size="15"> </p>

Code for filling in:

webbrowserDocForm = WebBrowser1.document.GetElementsByTagName("text")
For Each curElement As HtmlElement In webbrowserDocForm
Dim controlName As String = curElement.GetAttribute("name").ToString

[code]....

It doesn't give me any errors no more, but it doesn't work either.

VS 2010 Keeping A Password Textbox Secure?

Jul 29, 2010

I've never really used the SecureString class before but I've got a requirement in an app to have a user enter a password that will be used later in the application, and I figure SecureString is the most secure way to do this.

I have created a little dialog form where the user will enter their username and password and have set the UseSystemPasswordChar property of the password textbox to True. As I need to keep the password in memory for use later though, I have created a property in my main form that is of type SecureString and when the user enters their password into the dialog window I copy the string from the password box to the SecureString property like so:

vb.net
For i As Integer = 0 To LoginFrm.PasswordBox.TextLength - 1
Me.ConnectionPassword.AppendChar(LoginFrm.PasswordBox.Text(i))
Next

I figured out how to get the original string back when I need to (with only a slight hint from the documentation I might add ), which I do like this:

Dim OriginalString As String = Marshal.PtrToStringBSTR(Marshal.SecureStringToBSTR(Me.ConnectionPassword))

but the problem I have is that I want the user to have the option to edit the password they already entered if they want to. This is a problem because I want to avoid putting the real password back into the password box for security reasons, but then if I just put some random characters in there (just to show that their password has been remembered by the app) and then the user clicks OK on the login diaog form then it will update my ConnectionPassword property and set it to the random characters.
One option would be to set the passwordbox text to something specific each time and then test to see if that is what the text is set to when they click Ok (and if it is then obviously dont update the ConnectionPassword property) but this seems pretty rubbish because its possible (however unlikely) that the user could actually select that word as a password.

Any better suggestions? Perhaps its not worth doing anything at all and just use a normal string as the SecureString is going to have to get converted back to a normal string at some point to be used.

Compare What You Type Into A Textbox To A Randomly Generated Password?

May 8, 2012

I am setting up a game for my final visual basic program in my computer programming class, and it is supposed to compare what you type into a textbox to a randomly generated password, and then return whether the last character you entered had a higher, lower or the exact same ascii value as the corresponding character in the randomly generated password. Well, in order to test it, I set up labels to compare the two characters... when you type in ALT + 125, the ascii value returns 125, as it should, and it says that the ascii value of the correct character is 142. I typed in ALT + 142, and the character's ascii value, according to what the label puts out, is 196... obviously its converting dec into hex or oct or something... but how do I fix it?I can also tell you that when I typed in 196 to see if it was reversed or something stupid like that, it printed that the ascii value was 49... what's up with that?!
