Dec 4, 2008I am writing a VB 2008 program to display and update records from a sql database. This particular form is used to display and modify retail store information records from the database. I am running into an issue with saving the records once they have been changed.The error message I am getting is "Update requires a valid update command when passed DataRow collection with modified rows". I am including all of my code for the form because I am not sure what is relevant. I am getting the error when SaveTheEdit() is called on line 83. [code]

Jan 2, 2010I'm working on a project right now that basically prints a string to the field that has focus in internet explorer and there's quite a bit of user specified information that needs to load when the vb program loads. Should I use a text file to store and retrieve the settings or a database? I'm a new programmer and I don't really have a clear idea on when I should use a text file compared to a database or the registry to store info. Also, if I use a database like access 2007 for example, wouldn't an end user run into an exception if they don't have that software installed on their comp? Is there a universal database format? I've linked some screenshots of the prog if you want to get an idea of how much info I need to store.

InputBox Function - Program - Allow User To Input 5 Payrolls For Store 1, Store 2, And Store 3
Mar 22, 2012I am coding a program that will allow the user to input 5 payrolls for Store 1, Store 2, and Store 3. The total of the 5 payrolls are then added together and shown in the respective Store's labels. A total label is also there to add up all the totals into one number. The numbers in the label must be in currency form. My problem is the numbers don't add correctly when I hit calculate. The first two numbers add together, but then after that the number just seems to subtract a random amount.

How To Display/store Large Amounts Of Text?
Nov 11, 2009What I want to do is display large amounts of text and a few pictures, ideally with hyperlinks between the pages. A lot like wikipedia really, lots of similarly arranged pages, text in categories with in-line hyperlinks and the occasional picture to illustrate a point.But not online, integrated as part of a larger app.
How would it be best to go about doing that? The display method is sortof dictated by the storage method. My thoughts were:
Lots and lots of labels stored in an Access database
Straight HTML as if it were a webpage embedded in an iFrame or something
Labels populated from XML files?
Program the whole lot in Flash or something else (A language I can't speak)
This is only a mockup for demonstration purposes so the priority is user-friendlyness and ease of programming rather than storage concerns or good programming form.
Log / Store Info And Display In Sortable Multiple Column ListBox
Mar 31, 2011I am wriing a vb.net windows application to log and store information. then display it in a sortable multiple column listbox (I personally like FlexGrid by Component One). However... I am not sure how to go about storing the information. Should I go with a .sdf file database, registry, simply storing them in a file, or some other method?
What I need is to be able to:
read/write/delete from it
read possibly up to a 20mb file and sorting it without a lot of lag
be transported to multiple systems and maintain these writes (installed on many systems)
I know I could split up the reading/writing to anther thread. Even to other .DLL's and whatnot. But as for storing. Not sure what the best option is.

How To Store Strings Into Database
Oct 6, 2010For my website I've just implemented tinyMCE for my site (just a word processor). Everything works fine except when i try to store the string variable input into a sql server database. I want to store a string and not have the html tags make me exceed the 8000 length limit(the html tags take up most of that space). My question is, is there a solution so I can store my document with the html tags without shortening my document? Create an if statement that will determine the length If > 8000 than split the string apart and insert into separate fields. Maybe their is a compression feature which I'm unaware of?

I try to google around for weeks..but still cant find the solution, I believe microsoft jet 4.0 should support unicode, but cant find any command like charset to set the character set.

I've set the regional and lagguage setting to korean(I can view korean in textpad).
