Create A Database That Uses Object Dependencies For Five Different Related Tables?
Feb 9, 2011I have trying to create a database that uses object dependencies for five different related tables.
View 1 RepliesI have trying to create a database that uses object dependencies for five different related tables.
View 1 RepliesI am using VS2008 and SQLite. I have created a database and several tables and am attempting to populate the tables with data from arrays.
The following code (example) works fine but stops after it inserts 30 to 50 records. I am running the VB code in debug mode and when it stops, I press pause to see where it is. It stops on "SQLcommand.ExecuteNonQuery()" and when I press continue (F5) it will insert another 30 to 50 records.
I do not get an error message. Is this a timeout issue? How do I keep the loop running to the end of the array?
Following is example code.
Dim
SQLconnect As New SQLite.SQLiteConnection()
Dim SQLcommand As SQLiteCommand
CODE:.....................
I downloaded a 3 tier sample code , but that has no code for related tables, I am trying to complete this.
These are the tables and part of the sample code

i would like to know where is a sample code programmed in 3 tier or n tier to update 2 related tables.
View 7 RepliesI have a simple "two-tables" database (SQL EXpress) and a very simple application (VB 2008 Express). The two tables are customer and order and their structures are:
customer(IDcustomer, LastName, FirstName) IDcustomer=primary key orders(IDord, Number, Description, IDcust)
IDord=primary key the tables are related (IDcustomer-->ID cust)
In VB2008 environment I create a dataset, by means of Data Source Configuration Wizard, which encompass both customer and order tables (xsd file). By opening xsd file I set the relationship in the following manner:
"Both relation and foreign key constraint"
Update Rule = Cascade
Delete Rule = Cascade
In my form I show customer table in detail-mode and orders table in datagridview-mode. Two Fill method are created in the Load event and they work correctly.In "CustomerTableAdapter" I create, with QueryBuilder, a search query (say LastName query) and I write the following code:
Private Sub frmSearch_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
Me.CustomerTableAdapter.FillByLastName(Me.CustomerOrdersDataSet.custom er, "D") 'All Lastnames with first letter = D

i have 3 tables in ms access that is patient , NOK,and admission they have related fields, i am using vb 2005. when i delete a record from the patient table i want the related records from the other tables to be deleted.
View 1 Replies[code]I'm able to display Data from the tables to Datagridview but how do I update two tables from Datagridview?For some reason under Advanced Options Generate Insert, update and delete statements gets unchecked.
View 4 RepliesI am having a problem saving related tables and querying them. I have both data binding sources on the form and I have both being added, end edit, and both being saved. When I "view all" and click on the related table "crimes" they're not showing with the Inmate that committed them. I have gotten it to do this with a code similar to that below and I am wondering what I'm doing wrong so that the datagridview for crimes will display the correct crimes for the correct inmate. The primary key for inmates is DOC# and the Primary Key for Crimes is "Entry ID"
Private Sub btnSave_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnSave.Click
Me.Validate()

Is there a way to modify the text of a primary key and not have it delete all the following rows in other tables related to it?
View 6 RepliesI have a Microsoft Access database that has one-to-many relationships. When I created the tables for the database, I did not enter any data into any records, as that will be done by the application user. My problems is when data is entered into the parent and child tables, the parent table data is the only one that gets saved when clicking the save button on the binding navigator.If I have the parent and child tables data entered the same way a user would prior to connecting the data source and add EndEdit() to the child table BindingSource in the BindingNavigator click event, everything works exactly the way I want it to.This application is a data entry form, so it wouldn't make sense to have to have data entered in tables prior to adding the data source to my project. What is the best way to create a data entry form with one-to-many relationships? [code]
View 6 RepliesI am trying to produce a form in VB2008 which shows data from two related database tables, and then allows the data in one of the tables to be updated. I would like to do this using a DataGridView, but I have no idea how I would go about this.
View 4 RepliesThe StudentDetails.Students is the master table which forms a relationship with RegistrationDetails.Registration. Therefore, StudentID is the primary key in the former whereas it is a foreign key in the latter.Now I've tried each of the following codes but each of the first two gives an error message "Incorrect syntax near 'a'" and in the case of the third one DbTransaction as in "Dim trans As DbTransaction" is also not a valid type. I'm using SQL Server 2008 Professional Edition.
cmd = New SqlCommand("DELETE FROM StudentDetails.Students a, RegistrationDetails.Registration b WHERE (b.StudentId=a.StudentId) AND a.StudentId='" & txtStudentID.Text & "'", cn)

I have a database created using sql server express 2008. There I have two tables called tbl1 and tbl2, which are related as tbl1.CityNumber=tbl2.CityNumber.
I have created the programme using VB 2010; there, a form has three textboxes.
Tables: tbl1,tbl2 ; (related as tbl1.CityNumber=tbl2.CityNumber)
Columns to be updated:tbl1.CityName , tbl1.CityNumber, tbl2.StreetName
TextBoxes on the VB form: txtCityName , txtCityNumber, txtStreetName
[Code]....
But, now the problem is, the two tables have not get updated,after going to the database in MS.SQL Server Management Studio. I think I'm very closer to have my required result. I have tried my best to track place,where I've gone wrong.I have been trying to find a method for last five days.
I am developing a Windows Form Application against a SQL Server relational database. An example of the database schema is:
TableA
------------------
PK A_ID uniqueidentifier
A_NAME varchar(254)
[code]....
In the form I have a ComboBox (cboA_ID) to select the TableA record (DataSource = TableA, DisplayMember = A_NAME, ValueMember = A_ID) and a TabControl where controls on each tab are bound to fields in either TableB or TableC.My question is, is it possible to bind cboA_ID to TableB.A_ID and TableC.A_ID?This is my first database application so if there is a better way to do this I'm all ears. I have set everything up using the wizards in Visual Studio 2010, so I'm still not 100% familiar with what all the various TableAdapters and DataSets do.
I'm getting "Format of the initialization string does not conform to specification starting at index 0" error having used the following code. The commands are supposed to delete a related record from two tables namely StudentDetails.Students as the master table and RegistrationDetails.Registration as the child table. [code]...
View 1 RepliesUsing a datagrid, binding to one table, and related to one combobos, I cant update records, cause gives me a violation error. I'm not changing the primary key, so, I dont undersatnd cause this happen. I prepair a example of this error, and it was attached to this message.
View 5 RepliesI try to fill up a data grid view with records of two related tables. Beneath you can find the code I use to handle this.

I was create Access database with Access 2003. I create VB project with Visual Studio 2005 Standard With connection wizzard I create coonect with this Access database, select all tablesI see this database inside Data sources and inside Server explorer Test connection is OK When I drag and drop table from Data sources, Wizzard don't create DataGridView, DataSourceBinding etc .. and I see popup window with mesage: Object reference not set to an instance of an object and then "game over"
View 2 RepliesI have a requirement to create n Access 2007 database & some related tables from my application at runtime.
I used to be able to do this ages ago in VB5 but having difficulties doing it in VS (VB) 2010.
I need some expert help in achieving this task. I have an xml file which will be emailed to me everyday. I need to loop through the xml and create tables in a database based on the xml nodes and their attributes. looking at the following xml fragment for example: Code:
So based on the above xml, I would have to create a Shipment table as a Parent with fields like ShipmentIdentifier. Then I would have to create an Event table with the ShipmentID as a foreign key and fields like Source, Code. Basically a field for each node. Then if there are columns in the table that are new, I would have to modify the table and add the column. I only have to create tables where there are child nodes or where the nodes have attributes.
My project is about recipes. I want to automatically create table inside in mysql database when I hit the add button on my project through codes. First is when I input recipe name in the textbox1 then my input will be saved in the recipes table under recipe name column and also create a new table through codes on what i input in the textbox1
Example of my database in sql
texbox1 input will be save here
recipes - id, recipename
And then it will also automatically create a new table in mysql database, create newtable, with id, quantity ,unit, ingredients
Private Sub iadd()
Dim command As New MySqlCommand("insert into recipes (recipename) values ('" & TextBox1.Text & "')", connection)
Try
connection.Close()
connection.Open()
command.ExecuteNonQuery()

I've been into programming, I've landed a job with a local company, the entire project the gentleman is paying me to do is incredibly easy, with one hitch, the original project I'm converting is built using access databases, for efficiency, and easier online transfer, I'm wanting to switch to using an SQL database, I've got plenty of experience inserting, modifying, and controlling an access database, but where should I start to learn how to essentially set up, create tables, and modify data within an SQL database?
View 5 RepliesI'm a beginner to VB.net. I have 3 table (Torder, Titem, Customer)Table structure as below.
Order.dbf fields (OrderNo, CustCode)
Titem.dbf fields (OrderNo, Itemno, product)
Customer.dbf fields (CustCode, CustName)
Torder related to Titem via Order No. Customer related to Torder via CustCode. How to output data to excel sheet in this format?
So I create the model container:
Private mdbContext As PFModelContainer
Private mdbTransactions As Object
Before I did it this way:
Private mdbContext As New PFModelContainer
Private mdbTransactions As mdbContext.Transactions
Thinking maybe I was doing something wrong I changed it over to the first way, then I do:
Public Sub New()
mdbContext = New PFModelContainer
mdbTransactions = mdbContext.Transactions
End Sub
Once I hit mdbContext = New PFModelContainer it takes me over to the PFModel.Designer.vb Where it steps through the following:
Public Sub New()
MyBase.New("name=PFModelContainer", "PFModelContainer")
At which point it terminates execution of the code. This is the error it gives me on the Immediate window:
A first chance exception of type 'System.ArgumentException' occurred
in System.Data.Entity.dll
Is there something I can do to make this error go away? I tried deleting the project and recreating it with my old .edmx model that I downloaded from Mozy from when it used to work. It stopped working (as far as I can tell) after I changed the .edmx model and updated it. Maybe I did something else in the other project too, but I'm not recalling anything.This is what is in the app.config:
<connectionStrings>
<add name="PFModelContainer" connectionString="metadata=res://*/PFModel.csdl|res://*/PFModel.ssdl|res://*/PFModel.msl;provider=System.Data.SqlServerCe.3.5;provider connection string="Data Source=|DataDirectory|inDebugMyDatabase#1.sdf"" providerName="System.Data.EntityClient" />
</connectionStrings>
Should I be referencing System.Data.EntityClient and System.Data.SqlServerCe.3.5 somewhere?The EDMX property Entity Container Name is PFModelContainer and the Namespace is PFModel.
i have problem here regarding update data when i checked value in checklistbox control.no problem when i want to insert data for the first time, but got problem when i want to update it where the previous data that i checked is still available, plus the latest data i checked. Thats means I got multiple data in my database.
example:
cat
lion
mouse
previous( cat) > i checked cat only
latest in my database, i got (cat,cat, mouse) when i checked mouse and cat.
how to implement UI, BL and DAL in a project the way that I see it as a requirement for some projects. The way I am able to do a project now is from a form create an object of a class in which there are properties and functions that do database selects, updates and deletes. Looks to me that doing a project like that is separating the UI from the DAL. In an update button click event I may call Obj. Delete (txtCustID.txt) for example. I don't understand the part of further breaking it down to include a Business layer; in which a vb solution is made up of three solutions.What goes in the BL?Does the BL call the DAL?
View 2 RepliesI would like to create/use a system-wide independent universal 'counter object' that can be called via COM in a thread-safe manner. The counter object will be passed an ID to identify which counter to return, handle the counting, 'persist' the count (occasionally), have reasonable performance (as fast as possible) perhaps capable of 1000 counts per second or better (1mS) and be accessible cross-process/out-of-process. The current count status must be persisted between object restarts/shutdowns.
The counter object is liklely to be a 'singleton' type object implemented in some form of free-threaded dictionary, containing maybe 10 counters (perhaps 50 max). The count needs to be monotonic and consistent, (ie: guaranteed unique sequential values).Each counter should have a few methods, like reset, inc, dec, set, clear, remove. As a luxury, I would like to have a variable-increment (ie: 'step by' value). To support thread-safefty, perhaps some sorm of critical-section or mutex call. It just needs to return a long/4byte signed integer.
I really want something that can be called from anywhere, including VBScript, so I figure COM is my preferred solution.The primary use of this is for database keys. I am unable to use autoinc or guid type keys and have ruled out database-generated counting systems at this point.I've spent days researching this and I have really struggled to find a solution. The best I can find is a free-threaded dictionary object that can be instantiated using COM+ from Motobit - it seems to offer all the 'basics' and I guess I could create some form of wrapper for this.

I was working through Beth Massi's article, "Using TableAdapters to Insert Related Data into an MS Access Database" here: http:blogs.msdn.co...s-database.aspx
And I configured the TableAdapter exactly as shown by Beth, yet I am getting an error here:
Me.OrderDetailsTableAdapter.Update(newOrderDetailsRow) The Error says: "You must enter a value in the 'OrderDetails.CustomerID' field."
I am using this code for inserting a related record:
Namespace MyDataSetTableAdapters
Public Class AccessIDHelper
'<summary>
[Code].....
I am not able to insert and move on as I am getting the error marked above.
What could be possibly wrong with the above code and why is this giving an error ?
VB2008 with MS Access Database updated related data ?
View 9 RepliesI have created a link using VS2008 and MS Access 2007.In my database, assume that I have ID, First Name, Last Name, Gender
------------------------
1 John Smith Male
2 Michael Jackson Male
3 Alicia Keys Female

These are the data I have in my database.In my form, assume that I have
ID [Combo Box]
First Name [Text Box]
Last Name [Text Box]
Gender [Text Box]
Now, I have 3 ID in my combo box. If I choose [1] in my combo box, I want the rest of my test box show [John] [Smith] [Male].When I choose [2] in my combo box again, it will show [Michael] [Jackson] [Male].
