VS 2010 None Of Users See A Consistent Item That Is Causing Hang

I'm having an issue with a program. It seems to run (continuously) any amount of time from a few days to about a week.Eventually, and seemingly randomly I get the following Errror. None of the users see a consistent item that is causing the hang, and sometimes it's even just running with no interaction with the user.I just get long signature alpha numerics as a debugging tool.Is there any way to
a) force my program to kick out of the hang if it detects one, (and I guess, how could I write a separate thread to detect a hang?)
b) find out where my program is hanging?
c) if none of these options are viable, some coding practices I might be doing wrong that I could change to help avoid this?

I have a background worker that's checking the status of four services on a remote server.This is setup on a timer (5 Seconds) as below. For some reason it's hanging the UI thread causing the application to 'lock' for a second each tick, I cannot work out why?!

I have a VB.NET WinForms application. While adding a new data source, it is giving "An item with the same already been added" on the Add Data Source wizard form.
The application does not contains any existing data source.
What could possibly be causing this error, and how might I go about resolving it?

Also want it to load in the users default web browser if possible. I'm working on a little app for a small community online radio station and want to have a menu in the menu strip for the stations website, twitter profile and facebook profile. I'm using .BeginConnect with an AsyncCallBack and for some odd reason when I try to add a string to a textbox using the sub below, from a routine within the socket, it just does not work. I am creating xml files that contain chinese posts and it seemed to be working but I started getting an error:This page contains the following errors:error on line 4165 at column 25: Input is not proper UTF-8, indicate encoding !Bytes: 0x0B 0xC3 0xA5 0xC2
Below is a rendering of the page up to the first error.When trying to open some of the resulting files.The line it references contains chinese characters and the error occurs only for some posts and my guess is that the text has some encoding issues.

I make sure the xmltextwriter is properly declared and set the encoding and from what I understand is that vb.net encodes everything in utf-16. My code works well with streams I get from another source that sometime contains chinese characters and it never invalidates the xml. I tried cleaning the text using the following functions and the xml is now valid but when viewing the xml in the browser the characters are not chinese but junk.

so if I need to fix my data, my question is how can I detect what encoding is used for a specific text and how do I convert it into utf8 format that can be viewed in an xml file and make the file valid.
EDIT: I messed around with converting from one type to another, first ASCII to UTF8, then Unicode to UTF-8. did not work. The only time the xml is valid is when characters display as such:

I have two arraylists that contains links in one and the root url in the other. Sometimes the lists dont equal in number and I would like to iterate through the links list and if it contains a matching root url add it to a third list but also avoid any duplicates. I have a class that gets 2 label controls passed to it byRef. So, while my class is being executed I want the labels on the form to be updated. My project has the need to build consistent urls similar to the ones here on stackoverflow. I know how I "can" do it by running the string through multiple filters, but I'm wondering if I can do it all with a single method.Basically I want to remove all special characters, and replace them with dashes BUT if there are multiple dashes in a row, I need them to be a single dash. I have an asp.net web app that uses forms-based authentication, a SqlMembershipProvider (using an encrypted password format), and a SqlRoleProvider. 2.Also , in order for the user to be able to use the application, he�ll have to register it then, everytime, before the application loads, it gets verified online that it was registered, maybe validate the registration information or a valid user name and password, no critical personal information. I have a VB.NET GUI (VS2005) that calls into a VB6 DLL to query MSAccess 2003 databases using DAO 3.6. Yes, I know this is not an ideal scenario, but that's the way the current application is set up. Component Checker shows MDAC 2.8 SP1 is installed. This application usually runs for a long time on our customer's Windows XP SP3 system with no issues. Occasionally (read: after 11 minutes or 11 hours or days), we experience a hang in the application, such that it needs to be ended with task manager and restarted. According to crash dumps and one lucky capture within the debugger, all threads are waiting on objects/critical sections within ntdll.dll. My specific thread gets stuck there and comes from MSJet40.dll. In the crash dumps, most threads are stuck in NTWaitForSingleObject, RtlEnterCriticalSection, etc.
I've been troubleshooting this intermittent issue for months and am convinced this is a bug in MSJet40.dll. The version of the DLL is 4.0.9511 and I see there is a hotfix for 4.0.9514 on XP SP3 outlined in: =[URL] I would like to get this hotfix to see if it fixes the issue and speak with MS if it doesn't. I have crash dumps and procmon traces of these events. This sounds very similar to the dreaded "Jet Bug" that shows up on a Google, supposedly fixed for Windows 2003 Server SP1, but I see no mention of it on Windows XP SP3.

I am trying to send and receive data using the SerialPort component. I am sending data to an Texas Instruments MSP430 which simply echos the sent character. I wanted my VB solution to read characters from a file, send a single character, and wait until the echoed character is received before sending another.
I have been fairly successful thus far but I have run into a little catch. When I attempt to send large files (323505+ characters) my MSP430 just hangs there and will not receive any more characters. My VB app return to VS '08 with timeout errors (timeout set to 1 minute).
I wanted to post my VB code here to see if the problem is from my VB app. I will be posting this problem on the IT usergroup to sort out anything on the MCU end. Here is the pastbin of the data write and the data receive subs:[URl]..

I have a form which has a textbox named "textbox1", and a button named "Button 1". Button 1 is meant to be a submission for textbox1 (i.e. when button1 is pressed, the value of textbox1 is saved and remembered). I want the value of textbox1 to be remembered on any computer, but I need it to be update-able too.I tried using settings to do this like so:
