VS 2010 PInvoke Stack Imbalance?
Aug 26, 2011
I have just upgraded(!) to VS2010, and opened my project from VS2008, which worked, and when i try to run i get a Pinvoke error due to stack imbalance. I am completely lost, on this error. What do i need to do to solve it. The error occurs at the If GetAsyncKeyState(8) Then part of the code below. It is detecting for a backspace being pressed. Private Declare Function GetAsyncKeyState Lib "user32" (ByVal vKey As Long) As Integer

I've got a dll, written in C++ (which I have the source code for and have compiled it under VS2010)It has a function I want to call in VB
SHARED_FUNCTION int yasdiMasterInitialize(const char * iniFile,DWORD * pDriverNum );
I've declared it as follows:
<DllImport("yasdimaster.dll")> Public Function yasdiMasterInitialize(ByRef IniFile As String, ByRef DriverNum As UInt32) As Integer
End Function
as when I try and use it as follows I get a pInvoke error:
Console.WriteLine("Initialise:" & yasdiMasterInitialize("yasd.ini", Drivers))
From reading around this is something to do with the declaration but I don't know what to change as this is the first time I've tried calling a DLL.

I'm writing a program that solves sudoku puzzles, but it keeps giving me StackOverflowException. I've tried to make it as efficient as possible, and cleaned up my code, but it still does this once it reaches a certain depth of recursion. how I can increase the stack size so that it can handle this recursion?

Now I see that VB tells me that label arrays are no longer supported But I also see that VB2010 is providing the relevant logic to update each of the label array fields I was until today using VB2008, because after running this application it crashes with a report of stack overflow, I assume it is related to the label arrays, but have no idea. So I have upgraded to VB2010.
In VB2010, I note that the immediate window is reporting A first chance exception of type 'System.InvalidCastException' occurred in Microsoft.VisualBasic.dll Now I have used label arrays for showing columns of like data, generated by a for loop. What should I be using it its place, maybe a grid..

I've an issue regarding p/invoke from managed to unmanaged code. See my original post at the MSDN forum (as brief summary is seen later in this post). Before I go on, I just want to explain a couple of things: I have a wrapper assembly in net 3.5 that does the actual interop to the unmanaged code. Then I have my console "host app" which uses the wrapper assembly. The solution I came up (I refer to my MSDN post) works when the host app is using .net 4, but it doesn't work when changing the host app to use .net 3.5. When changing, I get a AccessViolationException.
host app: 4.0, wrapper assembly: 3.5
-> works
host app: 3.5, wrapper assembly: 3.5 -> throws
AccessViolationException
Do anyone have a clue to why I get an AccessViolationException? Most importantly, how do I get it working with .net 3.5?
Brief summary on the MSDN post I refered to. I have this messy p/Invoke I need to solve. The C declaration looks like this:
long TBAPI TbeAndring (short,
short,
PTB_PU,
PTB_ANDRING_INFO,
PTB_PARAMS,
[CODE]...
Where PTB means that each argument is a struct pointer to an array of arbitrary length. The structs mostly contains strings, doubles, char and short. Anyway, I ended up with this DllImport statement:
<DllImport(NativeLibraryName, CallingConvention:=CallingConvention.StdCall, CharSet:=CharSet.Ansi, SetLastError:=True)>
Public Shared Function TbeAndring(ByVal sAntMoment As Short, _
ByVal sAntPU As Short, _
[CODE]...
As you see some of the arguments are changed by the unmanaged code as well.

I created a class that I use for error logging. I have one method that accepts a parameter as an exception. With that exception, I created the error log and I write the message as well as the stack trace. With this, I'm finding that I'm not always getting detailed information. Usually, the stack trace shows me line number in which the error occurs, which allows me to pinpoint the issue.

I'm really struggling with the following pinvoke call. I've tried numerous different ways of doing this but still no joy. The call runs through, but I get a 'Bad parameter' message back with suggests there is something wrong with the struct, since I've ran through a c++ example of this code and the parameters are all correct.

Looking at Microsoft's page on Wow64DisableWow64FsRedirection, I see some C code. What if you want to call this function and it's revert from VB.net? So far I have done this:
<Runtime.InteropServices.DllImport("KERNEL32.DLL", EntryPoint:="Wow64DisableWow64FsRedirection")> _
Public Shared Function DisableWow64Redirection() As Boolean
End Function
And I do likewise for the Revert brother function.This seems to work, as the shell command I call after actually finds its exe in system32, but I am not sure about the Revert, does it need a parameter? This Revert page seems to want me to take the output from disable and plug it into the revert call. Does that sound right? How do I change my DLLimport to take in a boolean and actually use it in the Kernal32.DLL function?

I am running Visual Studio 2005 (I tried 2008 and got the same error) using SQLite for a device project. (Windows 6 Mobile)The identical code works perfectly for Windows, but when I execute
f.FileName = PathForDB
SQLconnect.ConnectionString = "Data Source=" & f.FileName & ";"
SQLconnect.Open()
I get the above message. I have tried to "manually" load the DLL at the beginning of my code, but I still get the same message.

I want to enable the 'ReaderMode' for paning/scrolling my control in .Net. Closest thing I found was this Win API function .url....However, I'm not sure how to call this one, in the documentation it says, This function is not declared in any public header. To use it, you must access it as ordinal 383 from Comctl32.dll.I've never called a function that didn't have a name before, can anyone describe how to do this in VB.Net?

I'm using PInvoke to access some routines from a third party library, however i'm getting SEHExceptions when trying to use callbacks defined for one particular method. The callbacks are used to provide feedback from other unmanaged methods within the third party library, passing a string back to the calling application containing a status message.

In your actual programming experience, how did this knowledge of STACK and HEAP actually rescue you in real life? Any story from the trenches? Or is this concept good for filling up programming books and good for theory?

I've started using .Net's stack collection. The basic features I guess are the "pop" and "push", where you add or take off the top element of the stack (if you are referencing other elements in the stack then another collection type is probably better).[URL]..it appears that the Stack collection (like other collections) is basically an array with some window dressing (so you actually can see other elements). As far as I can tell, "popping" and "pushing" is changing the first element of the array. Shouldn't instead the final element be the "top" of the stack and be the one that is changed? Otherwise the program has to reindex all the other elements in the array every time a pop or push is made. This seems very inefficient. But this is what Microsoft's description appears to be saying what is happening.

I just started programming in VB.NET 2008 with the Express edition and have been having a blast so far. I thought a fun program to try and make would be an infix to postfix program.
I have five text boxes off to the side of my program that shows what is on the stack as you iterate through the equation. I'm wondering if it's possible to make these textboxes set to display what is at a certain index of a stack.
For example, if I pushed a "(" onto the stack, I would like the top box of my textboxes to update and show a "(". When something else is pushed onto the stack, say a "/", I would like the "(" to be displayed in the second box down, and the "/" to be displayed in the top box now.

We have this funky little ObjectDisposedException happening now and again. But only on production machines, of course ... can't recreate the issue on my dev unit. So I trotted on out to the Microsoft site to see what members of this exception I could use to figure out what's going on. Microsoft says that one of the members is StackTrace. I double and triple checked that I'm looking at .Net 1.1 information as I'm pretty sure that's what I'm using (how can I check that?). Here's the page I found - [URL]
So I go back to my program to write something useful to the event log so I can figure out what's going on. And when I look at the members of the ObjectDisposedException available to me I only see the following: GetBaseException, GetType, InnerException, Message, ObjectName, ToString.
what happened to my StackTrace member? I sure could use it if I could figure out how to get to it.

As a learning experience I decided to try and implement the Shunting Yard Algorithm(string calculator) using OOP. It was successful for as far as I took it, but it had one flaw. In order to get the stack to be accessible from the operators I had to declare it as shared, which meant that all versions of the calculator shared one stack. This very short piece of code illustrates what I came up with and the "flaw". [code] How can I maintain the functionality of anOP.add1 without declaring "something" as shared?

I'm writing this program in Visual Basic .NET to organize different fields of data, and I'm using profile slots through application settings to store the data for users. But, I ran into a stack overflow error in my SlotSelect.vb class. My best plausible guess for why this happens is that I'm using the wrong kind of variable container in the below sauce code, but my dilemma is that I don't know what specifically is going wrong.The code that the vshost is saying is the cause for the overflow was written from some code that I looked up on MSDN and other places for referring to objects in other classes, and I tried using other variants of it to see if it was any different. So far, nothing has worked, and it doesn't stop the error while compiling, much less in the code markup--it only catches it when it starts the application in debug after it finishes building
