I have 2 forms... main form and AddAddress form.I use the .showdialog to open the addaddress form. When this forms adds the address to the DB it gets the autoID... but I then want to enter that autoID on a text box on the main form.
View 2 RepliesI have a form with 3 tabs: one tab is for user entry and computations, a second tab shows values that will be used for computations which are read from one database (I call it settings in that the values are constants for calculations but it's not application settings in the way people think of it, to be clear) and the third displays a table from another database. The second tab has a table adapter interface for the dataset that contains values used for calculations that can be changed (to do different scenarios.) Those numbers are read from a single record in a database that has 20 fields and was read once when the data is loaded into the second tab to be displayed.
The problem I am having is that I would like to use the numbers from the second tab (the constants) in computations to be shown on the first tab. I have tried declaring the variables on the second tab as public but they are already "friends" with the form event. However, when I go to use them in calculations, it's like they don't exist.
For example, one calculation I am doing is fuel cost. The user enters miles and this is stored as a variable called mileage. To calculate the result fuelcost, I have to use two other fields that are shown in the second tab: MPG (miles per gallon) and fuelprice (the price of gas). So fuelcost = (mileage/mpg)*fuelprice. These are read from a datatable called testdata which is actually part of the project. I want to be able to use these variables throughout the program but declaring them as public isn't working.
How do I make the variables from one tab usable elsewhere in the program? The other thing I noticed is since the values of the variables are loaded into textboxes and assigned variable names by naming the textboxes, using val([variablename].text) isn't solving the problem either. For example, saying milespergallon = val(mpg.text) is not doing the trick because I am getting a message that 'text' is not an integer when I declare milespergallon.

View 1 RepliesIt has to be a simple line of code but I do not know how to construct it. Using VB 2010 Express, I have a MDI parent form and many child forms. I want the parent form to determine what child form is active and load data into the RichTextBox1 on the child form. Each Child form has a RichTextBox1. The parent form gets its data by loading a file.
I am close to a solution but just can't get there. You will see in the code below, if I make a direct reference to a specific child form, it works great. What I want to do is to use the Active Form function to determine which form to write to. I have looked at the MS tutorial which gets me close.

1.) I created a copy of a form and displayed it using following code.

2.) Depending on conditions a button on frmParent opens a modal child form and asks for some informations. I used following code for that:

Both code works fine. When user press saves in child form i need to close childForm and use the user types values in parent form. I know how to close the childform but not sure how to pass info from childform to parent form.

Username is named as Email2 and Password is named as Pass2 and the button is addaccount2. The forms are named Form 1 Form 2 and Form 3. I have a listview in form2 that has columns with names and im trying to get it to when you fill in the info on Form3 the username and pass and click the Add account button it will put it in the listview box but I would like it to be so username would be under the username column and password to be under password column under Form2 in the listview.

The main form in my application is a small form without a titlebar. I accomplished this by setting these properties:
- ControlBox = False
- MinimizeBox = False
- MaximizeBox = False
- Text = "" (empty)
As long as the Text (title text) remains empty, the form has no title bar. Note that it still has a border so it can be resized (FormBorderStyle = Sizable, as usual, not None!)Now, because I have to keep the Text property empty, the taskbar button never shows any text... But I want to show text in the taskbar button!
As far as I know, the only way to set the text on the taskbar button is using the forms Text property, but I cannot set that because the form will have a titlebar if I do...

I have 3 forms, the form one is an intro, form 2 loads a user and form 3 displays a user. i use the streamread / writer to load values on form 2, then when successful it loads form 3 and the vaules are transferred perfectly, now to save time i changed the start up form from form1 to form2 (saves having to skip every time). so after having all the code load and transfer i wanted to see it in action and then the issues started.

I have a 2nd form that is minimized to the taskbar, I can click on the tab and the form opens and shows all of the data fine, but
From the main form, I am maximizing the second form and trying to pass a value to a toolstrip textbox on the second form then press a button on the toolstrip from the second form, I can get this to work fine, but where I am having a problem is
The button searches through a treeview, when I step through my code, I can see the value that I am passing, my code does execute, but the treeview is showing no nodes(but they are really there). At the begining of the code, I put a message box to give me a count of the nodes in the treeview, it shows 0, but I can see all 10000+ nodes. What the textbox is on the toolstrip is a search box. When the form is maximized, I can enter whatever and it finds it with no problems, but if I pass a value it doesnt find anything because the treeview is saying there are no nodes when there is.
I have simple app with Form1, Form2 and Form3. Form 2 is being opened with button form Form1. Form3 is being opened with button from Form2. Form1 is startup form. I can call any public sub on Form1 from Form2,(using on Form2 command "form1.mypublicsubname". If I try to call public sub on Form2 from Form3 nothing happens. If I put simple Msgbox "Hello" in public sub on Form2 and I call it from Form3 I do get Msgbox saying Hello. If I put in same public sub something like me.mydatagrid.refresh nothing happens. Also if I try calling me.mydatatableadapter.fill nothing happens. I guess it has something to do with invoke but I just don't know where to start.

View 11 RepliesI have a form with 2 dateTimePickers and a SHOW button which gets data from an sql server database and displays it in a DataGridView. this works ok. I also have an EDIT button which brings up another form with textbox and comboBox controls displaying this one record. I want to be able to click in the DataGridView to select a Name and then click on the EDIT button to bring up the selected record. I don't know how to pass the ID as a parameter to this second form. Now apon assigning a string to the variable with an If Then Else Command, I go to the next form expecting that the assigned variable will be available for use in this second form but to my dismay it tells me that the variable has not been declared and will not even show up in Intellesence. Like I said before from research on the net I am using the public class in Form 1 to hold the variables and am kind of expecting the public class variables to be available through all the forms in the project. I would really like to know how to do this so as I can finish my project for class.
I've got a form in my MDI container. Lets call it Form1. I now want to show a dialog box (Form2) and pass the primary key from Form1 to Form2. Do i create a public function on Form2 called SetMe() or Do I create a public on Form1 And read from it? From a best Practice point of view, How would you go about it?
