VS 2010 Regular Expression To Restrict Input To Only Certain Characters In A Text Box
Aug 18, 2010
I am in a need of a Regular Expression to restrict input to only certain characters in a text box. The text box can only allow 0 or 1 "+" sign at the beginning and at no other position. The text box can only allow 0 or 1 ":" sign not before the "+" sign. The text box can allow any number of 0-9 digits.

im writing a program for counting the cash in a till.i have most of it worked out through research on this site and others. im trying to code a text box that allows the user to enter any amount between 0 and 9999.99. I have everything working except restricting user from entering more than 2 digits after the decimal. I could leave it as is and the currency format that im using will automatically round the input to 2 decimal places but this creates a problem if the user accidentally enters an extra digit and the program rounds up. for example if the user intends to enter "23.34" but accidentally enters "23.345" the program will round up to "$23.35" which will cause a problem in the end calculations.here is the code. if someone could explain what i need and where that would be great.
Private Sub TextBox1_KeyDown(ByVal sender As Object, _
ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs) _
Handles TextBox1.KeyDown

The regex statement below is being used to valid user input for an IP Address.
I want to disallow the ability of a user to type in a domain name (can'tDoThis.com)
How would I change the following statement to NOT allow a user to type in alpha characters.
Dim ipPattern As String = "((2[0-4]d|25[0-5]|[01]?dd?).){3}(2[0-4]d|25[0-5]|[01]?dd?)"

I may have a string for example potato in a vb.net application. I want to find all the occurrences of o and convert them to 0, so the desired out is: p0tat0.I know it can be done by the provided string operations but I need a regular expression in my scenario.

I'm currently coding a ASP.NET web application using VB.NET. I'd like to know how to limit the input of the regular expression validator to numbers only (with specific number of digits e.g 7-20 digits).

I understand the concept of regular expressions but I am looking for a regular expression string that checks the input string for the following criteria only...
1.) Upper and lower case letters
2.) The space character
3.) Apostrophe
4.) Comma
5.) Period
6.) Hyphen

Lets say I have a multiline textbox that I would like to have checked for say, 1-2 digits over a max of 5 lines. I found a regular expression pattern answered on another similar question on here but it was not working for me even after modifying it a number of times.
I'm currently using the following without success.
Dim textCheck As New Regex("(^d{1,2}$
?
?){0,5}", RegexOptions.Multiline)

I came to a company that already has a fully grown project... but coders that worked here before me didn't follow conventions and didn't use parametrized SQL queries... as a result there is over 1000 places in a very huge project that can possibly be vulnerable to SQL injection...
I need to find a solution that will automatically detect if there is an SQL injection in the code. So, for example there is a form which allows user to enter comments regarding a product, which will be sent to database on submit... how can we make sure that a user didn't enter a harmfull query instead of a normal text?
Is there any advanced code/regular expression/magic that can detect if this text contains a piece of SQL query instead of normal harmless text? I will accept any links, pieces of code in any language or even commercial software that will do that for me.

create a regular expression. It is a little like a search and replace, I want to replace any string that contains any substring in parentheses with the same string but the words in parentheses colored RED.
Eg Take this text in TextBox1:
"The Prime Minister (that idiot from Scotland) made a speech today"
and convert to this text in RichTextBox1:
"The Prime Minister (that idiot from Scotland) made a speech today"

I have a simple pattern I am trying to match, any characters captured between parenthesis at the end of an HTML paragraph. I am running into trouble any time there is additional parentheticals in that paragraph:
i.e.
If the input string is "..... (321)</p>" i want to get the value (321)
However, if the paragraph has this text: "... (123) (321)</p>" my regex is returning "(123) (321)" (everything between the opening "(" and closing ")"
I am using the regex pattern "s(.+)</p>"
How can I grab the correct value (using VB.NET)
This is what I'm doing so far:
Dim reg As New Regex("s(.+)</P>", RegexOptions.IgnoreCase)
Dim matchC As MatchCollection = reg.Matches(su.Question)
If matchC.Count > 0 Then

I'm not sure if this is possible within VS, but I'm working with a massive VB.NET file that needs to log every function call for debug purposes. Problem is, that not every function has the Log command in it. I'm trying to use RegEx to find the function efinitions that do not have a log within them. This would NOT be a match:
Public Function Test1() as Boolean
Log.Tracelog("Test1()")
Return True

It seems up until now I've never used Regex, nor even heard of it. But once I did I realized how extremely useful this is. Having said, it's been 2 days since I've began looking into constructing my own patterns. My most recent being for decimals. Is the pattern I provided below "proper"? and are there also any improvements I could be making for a more efficient patter, which would minimize any possibility of a loophole? [code] So for my use, this is doing what it's supposed to being doing under every test I can through at it. But do mind the 0. and .0, I have a function to normalize these as they are proper, I just pad the left and right accordingly. I found most regex questions asked here..and yes I am doing this in vb.net so it fits. If not, then feel free to move this post somewhere else better suited for the topic of discussion.

I know it may be quite easily for you. i have a text which contains 40 lines, I want to remove lines which starts with a constant text. check below data.
When I used (?mn)[+CMGL:].*($) it removes the whole text , when I use (?mn)[+CMGL:].*(
) , it only leaves the first line.
+CMGL: 0,1,,159

I am wanting to restrict the input on an InputBox and I am confused about how to do that. I know what to do on a text box to restrict input to numbers, the ".", and the backspace key, but I cannot figure out how to tie the input restrictions to the pop up InputBox. Do InputBox 's have an object name attached to them? Or are they just called InputBox.whatever?

I'm making a custom control suited for handling passwords. I have created a control that inherits from a text box and I have implemented a lot of things so far. But what i want to do now is create a system so that when a user types It will display his last character typed for a X amount of time.Is there a way to turn only selected characters into password characters and still be able to get the password text from the Text property ?

Essentially I am trying to replicate the Windows 7 (In-Windows) activation key TextBox form. The Form where it will auto capitalize letters, remove or deny all non alphanumeric characters except dashes every 5 characters that will be auto-input.I assume this can be done with a fairly complicated replacement Regular Expression but I cannot seem to create one to fit the needs.
This is an Example of what I have right now, but it creates an infinite loop as it removes all characters including dashes, than adds a dash, which changes the text and removes the dash again.

I have the following regular expression for validating a file name:
^(([a-zA-Z]:|))?(((.)|(..)|(. %5D">^/:*?"|<>. |([^/:*?"|<>][^/:*?"|<>. ]))?))). %5D">^/:*?"|<>. |([^/:*?"|<>]*[^/:*?"|<>. ]))?$
I can get it to work in VB.NET but not C#. I can't figure out why it works in one but not the other.
[Code]...
As far as I can tell the patterns are identical in both languages with escaping. When I run the VB code I get a match. When I run the C# code I get nothing.

I have just coded the below regular expression. I have a mini rich text editor on a web page (very similar to the one I am using to post this question) and I want to make use of a double asterisk to indicate which words/phrases should be wrapped in a strong tag. The aim is to allow the user to add pre-defined HTML elements without actually having to submit HTML.
[code...]
Maybe I am over-optimising this, but I want to know if this can be made more efficient?
