VS 2005 System.Net.WebClient Whats The Best Way To Get Text File From Unix?
Dec 12, 2009I need to parse a Unix text file so, I am using System.Net.WebClient to ftp into a Unix server then using the .DownloadFile() method to get the text file, but its coming in with the Unix end line ""; so is there a way to convert that to windows format while doing the DownloadFile method? I do re-read it after and fix it, I am just looking for a better way.
Or is there an alternate such as instead of a DownloadFile, and the two other steps above can I just read it into an array right off the Unix server?? If so then what method would I use?

Jul 2, 2011I first want my program to get the text from a text file(I know how that's done), but once it gets it, I want to somehow save it that it won't need to get the text again(for example, if you restart the application, it won't need to get the text from the file because the text is already saved).

Is it possible to do something like that? A separator is not necessary, would be nice to distinguish different saves.

I have a standard form that you can enter data into.I want to take that data that is entered, and save it to a text file once I click the submit button at the bottom of the form. The form could have up to 500 entries into the form.

Feb 3, 2012I have searched, but failed to find a suitable answer to this. My small app saves a text file using a savefiledialog and stream writer. Then if successful, displays a messagebox confirming sucess and asks if the user wants to open the text file now. and this is the problem... How do I determine if the user has changed the filename and or path in the savefiledialog when saving? I'd prefer not to hard code a path and file name if possible.... but that seems like the only option? and therefore I can't show the file straight after saving reliably??

May 9, 2011I am developing an application that will call to the current user path so that a text file can be saved. I have seen a few forum threads that call to the current user path but I have been unsuccessful in making it work. Id like to try and save a text file, lets say 'test.txt' to 'C:Users(current user)My Documents' [URL] The above link has a way of calling the current user name, but when I publish the application, all it does is call to 'C:UsersMy Documents' and ultimately does not work. I have searched multiple terms and about 20 pages deep into google each time.

Dec 23, 2009I have this Quiz software that lets you create online multiple choice quizzes which are great for studying (I am in grad school and I'm trying to use everything I can to learn). So the Quiz software is great but it only lets you input questions by hand, one by one. I took a look at the .xml file that the quiz program spits out and came up with the idea to try and make a converter so that I can import many questions at once. I was hoping to try and solve this limitation by doing the following:
Take a .doc that say a tutor gives us with a bunch of practice questions, and then take that into Crimson Editor, and then format it so the question is on line 1, the multiple choice answers are on lines 3,4,5, and 6, (for the next question, the question would be on line 11, and the answers on lines 13, 14, 15, and 16, and so on) and then take that saved .txt file into my program, hit the generate button, and it will spit out the .xml file, and then import that into the quiz software to generate the online quiz.

I figured out how to open a text file by watching simple youtube tutorials, but I don't know how to have it generate the stuff and have it show up in the bottom text box. I know how to do the coding to convert the txt to proper xml code but I don't know how to be able to save the contents of the bottom text window to an xml file.
