VS 2010 - Time Scheduling Control That Allow User To Choose
Dec 10, 2010
I once saw in an app a control that allowed the user to choose when they wanted the Timer running. It looked something like this: And when the squares are green, for example Tuesday 3:15 AM - 4:15 AM, the timer would run during that time period. I'm curious as to what control will allow me to do something similar?

I have a question for the well versed among you. I have done some research, but didn't seem to find the exact answer I was looking for. So without further adieu.Given an event which needs to occur at a very specific time, whats the best and most predictable way or making that happen.
A: Use a worker thread, and threading.thread.sleep(TIME).
or B: Use System.Timers.Timer or System.Threading.Timer to execute in (TIME).
NOTE- I am fully aware that any of these will work. My question is in regards to priority of execution. How will a timer, which I can't figure out how to set a priority on, compare to a thread with a priority of Highest or even Real Time. Microseconds DO count in this instance.

I have an application that, when I finish it, will generate a graph of data drawn from a My SQL Database. It's going to be a simple time graph, with time on the bottom and a few stuff on the y axis.What I want is for the user to be able to enter the date. I would like it to be like a numeric stepper. Before I had two numeric steppers in the form but I decided one would be best.The idea was it would be like this: mm:hh [UP/DOWN ARROWS HERE]I saw one that was in use in an actual program. It had it so when you clicked the minutes, it selected the minutes and you could change them. The you could select the hours and change them. How would I do this?

I am upgrading user control from vb6 to vb.net.In the vb6 application I am loading 3000 labels using a label control array.In vb.net I am doing same but it's taking too much time to load.In vb6 it's taking 1-2 seconds, but in vb.net it's taking 30-40 seconds for same work. Why does it take too much time in vb.net for same work?Code is given below, here Led is the label control array.
For l = 1 To 3000
Led.Load(ledCounter)
ColLed.Add(Led(ledCounter))

I am currently working on a family project which is based on "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" show. There is a huge diffrence between the show and my project. My project is a christmas edition and the goal is not to get money or something, since I will not add it... Erhmm... Let me get to the point. I have already designed a layout and scripted some things. I have about thirty questions but I do not want them to always spawn in the same array, if you know what I mean. I want the program to randomly choose one of those thirty questions and NEVER choose the same question in the same program run. By the way, there are four options on my project: A, B, C and D. I have got everything, I just need a code.

This is a related to my last post, but not enough to make sense as a tag on question.I have a collection(of myClass) that is exposed as a public property in a user control.When I add an item to the collection in code I would make the call collection.add(new myClass) and of course the constructor for myClass is called.When I add items to the collection via the design time menu the constructor for myClass is not called.... of it it is called, I can't see any evidence of it.

I'm trying to make a simple User control that houses one collection of a class that I've made. After building the control All works as planned and then randomly when I try to go to the design time interface for the form I placed the control on I get an error page with the following:
To Prevent Possible data loss before loading the designer, the following errors must be resolved:(ignore and continue: which about half the time works and the control shows up and the other part of the time all of the controls on the page are missing)
The one error is the following:Object of type'System.Collections.Generic.List'1[StaticGraphPlot.clsStaticCurveData]' cannot be converted to type System.Collections.Generic.List'1[StaticGraphPlot.clsStaticCurveData]'.

I have created a user control that mimics what a label does. I realize I could have inherited the label control, but I am working on understanding the process. I wish to add items to the control. normally (in the code of my project) would do:
Form1.Label1.Controls.Add(mylabel)
After creating mylabel in the code of course.

I have a UserControl class in a Windows Application project. One of the properties of it is a collection of another class that I have defined. I can't seem to find a good example of how to get the standard collection editor working for it at design time.I got it working using some example code I found to a degree, but the data in my collection doesn't get saved. When I exit the form and open it back up in design time the data isn't there any more.Here is my class:
Public Class Gauge
Inherits Control
Private WithEvents _Captions As New CaptionCollection

I have a program that allows a user to select a program to run at a certain time for a specific amount of time all choosen by the user. Everything works with the exception of if my program has launched the other program, my program become non-responsive. Meaning I am not able to look at that window again. Not that one really needs too, because when time is up my program closes the program it opened, then closes itself. I just want to be able to see my program when the other program is running. how to do this and perhaps drop me some links, that would be wonderful. This is what I have coded, but like I stated there are no code errors.

I am creating a User Control where I have a property called Items. Items is of type LibraryPanelBarItem Collection (custom class) which contains a collection of LibraryPanelBarItem objects. I would like to be able to add these at design time by using the Collection editor that VS uses for adding things such as treenodes/listviewitems. Ideally I would also be able to declaratively add them to the html syntax. I can get the Items property to show up but I get no intellisense to add the items between the opening and closing tags. I've got a VB.Net form application that dynamically loads user controls based on which navigation link the user clicks on. I'd like to make it easier to use at Design time by putting a link of some sort to open the User Control at design time. The link would go onto the form in the space where the User Control will be going. This just saves a little time from having to browse through the files to open the correct file.

I made a pop-up blocker in my Visual Basic browser. Here is my code:
WebBrowser1_NewWindow
e.cancel = true
msgbox "Pop-Up Blocked!"
But how can I make it to where the user can choose if they want the pop-up blocker on or off? Also, how can I make it block pop-ups, but still open clicked links in a new window of my browser? Just curious.

Here is a simplified hierarchy of a application I want to create:
1. Mainform - here should be a navigation pane, where a user can choose which modul he wants to use.
2. Childform Reports, Childform Maintenance, Childform To Do, Childform Management, ... - depending on which modul of the program the user wants to work with, a proper childform will appear as the main working part of the application
3. Childform CostReport, Childform TurnoverReport, Childform EmployeesReport, ... - if user wants to work with Childform Reports (chosen in 2. paragraph) he can work with one of these childforms.
I wanted to do this with MDI childforms, but visual basic keeps telling me that a form can be a MDI container only as a toplevel, which Childform Reports isn't. So i can make the program till 2nd paragraph but when i want to make the 3rd, its a problem.
I put the error here: "Top-level style of a parented control cannot be changed.
Parameter name: value"
Is there a workaround?
Maybe i could use TabControl for the 3rd paragraph, but its not that convient, since I want to use more "tabs" or forms...

I want the people using my program to choose their own cell to read. I will have 2 textboxes (txtRow and txtColumn). They will have to click "read" to read from excel (but I will not open MS excel) and the answer will show in a message box. This is what I have done..
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnCheck.Click
Dim conn As New OleDbConnection("Data Source= D:LeeABC.xls ;Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0; Extended Properties=Excel 12.0;")
Dim da As New OleDbDataAdapter("Select * from [Sheet1$]", conn)
Dim dt As New DataTable
Dim Row1 As Single
Dim Column1 As Single
txtRow.Text = Row1
txtColumn.Text = Column1
da.Fill(dt)
MsgBox(mycell)
End Sub

I'm relearning VB.net just for fun, so consider me new at this. I'm trying to write a program where the user can input a list of names or numbers, and the program will randomly pick one of those names or numbers. So far, I can get it to randomly generate numbers based on what I put in the code, but I don't know what I should use for the user to input the data, and how to code it so that the program will pick from that data.

I have an ASP.NET application with a SQL Server back end. I am storing all my dates in UTC format and doing the appropriate conversions to the local time zone of the browser viewing it. One of the pages asks for a start date and end date (no times).
I am taking the start date and setting the time to 00:00:00 hours (midnight) and I'm taking the End time and adding a time of 23:59:59, so that the date range covers the whole day. Now what I'm trying to do is do a SQL query to do a search for records in this date range. The problem is, the data in SQL is in UTC time and the user is typing their dates and times in their local date and times. My quickest solution was to convert the date and time to UTC, then search the records. However, by doing this, I am to believe ASP.NET converts the given time and date to UTC based on the server time zone. How can I convert a date and time to UTC time based on the time zone of the user?
