Imports System.Data.OleDb
Module ModNtifi
Public conn As New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=\MyserverMyDatabase.accdb ;Persist Security Info=False")
[CODE]...
The Problem i am getting is that after the start procedure has finished the program closes. i want it to start the the timer and then keep it going till the user exits the program manually.

I've got an application (that is targetting .Net Framework 2.0) that is running on startup of the System, and I'm trying to get a NotifyIcon to display. When my program starts up when a user either Runs it normally or is started as a child process after the system has already logged on everything is fine.
If my application starts up as the system is performing an AutoLogon using POSReady2009 (basically XP with Single User set). Then the NotifyIcon never becomes active. If you subsequently check (in a timer) the .Visible of the Icon at any point later it always reports that it is visible = true.If you disable the SSDPSrv and restart the Computer, the Icon displays correctly.I have a sneaking suspicion this is related to .Net 3.5sp1 installed over the top of a .Net 2 system. Is there some process that I should be following to ensure that my NotifyIcon is always available to the user.I have setup RegisterWindowMessage("TaskbarCreated") but I don't get this message called, except when you forcilbly Kill Explorer.exe and restart it. Even so, a NotifyIcon interally registers for these notifications anyway, so it shouldn't be required.I'm happy to stall the startup of my program, but once the program starts up, I expect that the icon shows correctly.

I created a new Windows Service and a stand alone set up program for it. To the solution I added a set up program project and included both programs as outlined in [url]... However, when I run the Setup program, I do not see the my new service in the services window after the set up program completes. Is there additional work that needs to be done to have the program install the windows service correctly or do I need to include the [url]... program and a batch file to get it installed?

I created a new WinForm application then dragged a notify icon onto my designer. I coded my desired functionality for the NotifyIcon's behavior inside the Form1.vb file.I think I remember something about adding a module to the project, and setting the project to launch the aforementioned module instead of the form...but I can't figure out/recall how to keep the functionality I've coded into Form1.vb.

The program goes and "Hides" itself as the very last step (InitializeNotifyIcon - does a close which triggers the Form1_FormClosing), but for some reason it shows back up right after it hides iteslf. Here is my code:
Public Class Form1
Private contextMenu1 As System.Windows.Forms.ContextMenu
Friend WithEvents menuItem As System.Windows.Forms.MenuItem

When I add a service reference to my VB.Net project all of the properties of type DateTime get changed to type Date. The project is ASP.Net using framework 4.0. The web service being referenced is C# framework 4.0. How can I keep this from happening?

Basically, I'm going for a program that has a NotifyIcon and a ContextMenuStrip working together to create a program launcher. I began by adding all the necessary controls and setting the properties. Next I set up StreamReader for a text file I will be using to save program paths. StreamReader and individual lines of text.
I'm essentially in the dark in this area, and for my program, I'm aiming for the NotifyIcon's ContextMenuStrip's buttons(Long title) to display the names or paths of the program. So I need to add individual lines to each button. I thought I would come back to that, so I moved on to the next thing, adding buttons to the ContextMenuStrip.
I have buttons already in place, like Add Program, Remove Program and Programs(for the actual list) but I need to be able to add buttons to those. Kind of like sub-buttons. If that didn't make any sense, I mean like when you hover your mouse over a button and another menu pops up.

What I am looking to do is write a VB.NET program, as a service that reports anything on client1 that I want (say the fact it is online) to a database on the internet, so I can look on management1 and see the online status of the machine (assuming management1 has a connection to the online database).
What is being reported doesn't matter, what I am looking at is a starting point to create a system like that. I have googled obviously and come up with nothing, I'd just like a "starting point" or some documentation to look at for creating something like this. The service doesn't look too difficult but the periodic reporting of online status or ANYTHING to any kind of database is not something I am sure how to deal with.
I already have setup a VBS that reports information to an ASP script that then places it in a database but I don't know how I would create say a "keep alive" connection for a vb.net service.

I'm looking to create a program that needs to use a database I have (MySQL is the format it is in right now). The program doesn't need to change/update this database, only read from it. How would I go about making the data available to the program, without the end user having to install an SQL server?

"Employee Monitoring Program"
Source: Visual Studio 2008 Pro
Language: Visual Basic
I already Installed the components came with the VS2008 Installer (Sql etc)
The idea of the program:
The program will create a personal information of every employee including the userid and password that will be use to log in (user validation) .The application will monitor the login / logout and save the task of every employee.he application will save/store the daily activity task done by the employee (login/logout time, notes, and other task assign). the information will be saved in a database which can be access by the application in every PC within the network (LAN).The application will be installed in different PC within a network(LAN). The number of PC is not yet confirmed (5-10 PCs)
The application will be used concurrently within the network. The database will be updated after the employee save his/her task.
I plan to have ONE application only, to make it simple no server type installation and client type installation needed. Just one installation type only, the functionality/privilege will depend on the login information validation.
There will be 3 account types, Manager Account (Administrator),Regular Account (Normal Employee) and Guest account.
1. How to create an application which the database will be on the other PC within the network (LAN) ?
2. How to do it during run time/design time ( the database will be on the other pc)?
3. Can I have a guide or walk through on how to do this project?

I am trying to create a username database for my program where people create a username when they first open the program and it saves it and uploads their username to an FTP text file. The problem I am having is that I want it to do this and then display ALL users that have created a username on my program and used it in a list on a textbox. I was going to have it do this by having it add all usernames to a text file on my FTP and then have it download the text file of all the users created from the FTP and load it into the textbox on the Form that displays them all.

I've got an application that takes the files in a folder structure and publishes them to another location. Currently it goes through every folder/file and compares the dates in the source and destination. If the file doesn't exist in the destination, or is older, then it copies it across from the source. It's obviously foil proof, but not as fast as it could be.
Ideally, I'd like to create an audit (or audits) saying what the current state of play is in the destination and compare the source folders/files against that instead.
This of course assumes the destination isn't messed around with manually, but I think that's a fair limitation.
So has anyone got any suggestions for how this audit could work? ie: How I could store data/values, such that on the next run when I look down the source folder/files I could compare it to the audit and see 99% of the files are unchanged, so only send across the X new ones etc?
ps: I don't suppose there's a valid (in Windows) that can tell you the date any file in a folder was created/amended? ie: So rather than checking down 200 files to see their individual dates/times, if I could get a single folder level value saying the date of last update/create, if it hasn't changed since the last run, there's no work to do! There is GetLastWriteTime but this doesn't seem to get updated if you amend/update a file, rather than creating a new one!

I'm in an upper level industrial engineering class in which we're learning some entry level VB programming. We're working on building a program to solve the travelling salesmen problem (finding the shortest path through a collection of cities while visiting each only once) and I'm trying to add some 'fancy' to it so I can learn some more skills. The basic program is designed to load a bitmap file of a map into a picture box and a text file with the xy coordinates of any city positions. From there, the user can plot the cities with red squares, draw a random tour through the cities, or tour the cities by always visiting the nearest neighbor not yet visited. The modification I'm working on is a method of pointing out a specific city with a black square by entering the city's number (determined from the coordinate file) into a text box.
Private Sub TxtFindCity_textchanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles TxtFindCity.TextChanged
Dim ObjFindCity As Graphics = picShowMap.CreateGraphics
Dim City As Integer
[Code]...
So far, the program works, but I want the black squares (but none of the other graphics) that are created to go away once the text box is cleared. As of now they just hang around on the screen until I refresh the entire image with a 'clear map' sub. Any suggestions on how to accomplish this?
