Language Query - Encountered The Error " Keyword Is Not Valid As An Identifier"?

Jul 25, 2011

Presently working a tutorial in visual basic 2010. I have encountered the error " keyword is not valid as an identifier" I have read the definition of an identifier in the beginners section. Although I undertand the definition of an identifier I still am not sure of it when looking at a line of code. The tutorial gives an analogy but does not show examples of identifiers as they would actually apprear in a coding project.

Error - System.ArgumentException Was Unhandled. Parameter Is Not Valid

Feb 28, 2010

In this screen I want to let the user decide which elements are on shown on a label. When I hit the update button (BDUpdate_Click; see below), it first checks whether the Barcode sample text is empty. Afterwards I want to invole the refresh of the label preview. The strange thing is that the first time it works fine, but when I alter the sample text and hit the button again, I get the Error "System.ArgumentException was unhandled. Parameter is not valid." The error points to the DrawSting function in the LabelPreview_Paint Sub

Dim BarcodeLabelUpdate As Boolean
Private Sub BDUpdate_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles BDUpdate.Click
If BDBarcodeSample.Text = "" Then
MsgBox("Please enter a sample text", MsgBoxStyle.Information Or MsgBoxStyle.OkOnly, ProgramTitle)

Error : System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: InvalidArgument=Value Of '1' Is Not Valid For 'index'

Dec 12, 2009

LoopBegin:
Do Until strXMLSingle.Contains("ENDOFXMLCHECK")
strXMLSingle = getTempFile.ReadLine
If strXMLSingle.Contains("<character") Then

[code]....

I have that so far. It was working great for the names part until I attempted to do the level part, now i get the following error:

System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: InvalidArgument=Value of '1' is not valid for 'index'.

Also at the line where i use a goto statement to go back to the beginning of the loop, is there any way i can do that without a goto statement? Like a second loop statement or something?

VS/VB 2010 - Sorting Excel Rows Getting Error "The Sort Method Is Not Valid'?

Jun 14, 2011

In the following code all goes well until the .Sort line. Then I get an error which says, "The sort method is not valid. Make sure it is within the data you want to sort and the first sort by box isn't the same or blank."I've tried various permutations to deal with this exception, all to no avail. The Range is Selected ok and the Excel data are pasted from the clip board ok. Then I get the error and no sort occurs.

Explicitly Using System.IO Instead Of Importing It?

Aug 6, 2010

I have a VB file that imports System.IO, but only uses it is a couple of places. My co-workers and I were wondering if there is a small performance boost if we just use System.IO explicitly were we need it (IE., System.IO.MemoryStream) instead of importing it.

Set 'maxconnection' Programmably - (importing System.Net.Configuration)

My app downloads multiple files, and its limited to 2 connections. Now I've read you can change this, by adding the following in the app.config file:

CODE:

And that does work, however I would like to hardcode it in, rather than use app.config file.

I've tried (importing System.Net.Configuration):

CODE:

But that doesn't work, still stays limited to 2 connections total.

ASP.NET 3.5 WebSite Stopped Importing System Namespace By Default

Apr 13, 2010

I have a VB Web Site project that has recently (and mysteriously) stopped importing the "System" namespace by default.

I'm having to either place an Imports System line at the top of each code behind, or preface everything with System, which is fairly annoying, not to mention redundant. I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the System namespace back to being imported by default.

I've already checked to see that WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727CONFIGweb.config contains the <add namespace="System"/> line--it does. That was my best lead.

I have references to several namespaces within the System namespace in the <assemblies> node (e.g. System.Design, System.Web.Extensions of my website's web.config. There is no <namespaces> node. This has not been changed recently.

In my database the DeliveryTime type is set to Time(7) so i would assume there should be 'Time' which i could use to declare it, but there isnt. What is the correct type i should be using?

Here is my exact code. There error is Input string was not in correct format:

Asp.net - Error - Incorrect Syntax Near The Keyword 'IS'

Feb 10, 2012

I've got a GridView. My SelectCommand in the code works if I copy and paste it into SQL Server Management Studio. It executes fine.If I run the page and click Edit for any row I get the error:

"Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'IS'."

I've tried to see what's going on using SQL Server Profiler. Here's what the SelectCommand looks like and what SQL is receiving...

SelectCommand from supplies.ascx
SELECT some stuff FROM here WHERE (this IS NULL) and (that=1) ORDER BY this DESC
SQL Server Profiler reports
SELECT some stuff FROM here (this IS NULL) and (that=1) ORDER BY this DESC

I didn't put any code here because I'm not really sure what would be relevant and didn't want to load up the post with unnecessary lines of code.

<asp:GridView ID="GridView1" runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="False" DataKeyNames="fldSupReqID"
DataSourceID="SqlDataSource1"
EmptyDataText="There are no data records to display." AllowSorting="True"

Sep 29, 2010

My app fails at this line of code:

Dim objConnection As New SqlConnection(Application("ConnString"))

My connection string is: [Code]. I googled this problem and the solution for it was having a malformed connection string where the "provider" was being specified when it shouldn't have. Example conn string: [Code]. I'm not specifying the Provider so I think I have a different problem.
