VS 2010 Making A Character Move?
Oct 22, 2011
This is actually not really a question about vb, but about how to make a code.I'm making a RPG game and I want to make my character have "normal" movement. The problem is actually when I just hold down one of my movement keys (a, s, d, w) my character will jump out of the screen because it's going to fast. here is my movement sub:
Private Sub frmMain_KeyDown(sender As Object, e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs) Handles Me.KeyDown
'MOVEMENT'
[code].....

As some of you may know, school is coming to close for summer recess, and final projects are coming up. My Computer Science teacher has asigned us an animation project. Basicly, all we have to do is make a game where we make a picturebox move using the arrow keys and it flips to face the direction its going in. This is a little easy for me, and i really want to go above and beyond and make my final project my best. So instead of little 2-D picture boxes moving choppily across the screen, can i push visual basic's limits and make a 3-D representation of a character in my game and use that with the arrow keys?

I am creating a vending machine that has moving items. My issue is making a certain picturebox move left/right to a specified point, then down to the " Item return" label. I'm using a timer to make the items move. I just cant figure out how to get this item to stop then go down then stop again.
After that I'll display a message telling the user the item is ready. How would i get the item I moved to go back to it's original place?

I have been working on an rpg for a while now and iv been experimenting with different ways to get the background to move with the character. I dont have any directx experience at all so im trying to stay away from using it so my question is, if i design a 2d background in photoshop is there any way id be able to insert the entire picture in a picture box and have the character always remain in the center of the screen as the background follows him. my one idea is to make the background image bigger than the picture box and have the picture box some how follow the character.

TI have a picturebox on top of another picturebox, like a smaller square perfectly in the middle of a lil bigger square picturebox, if you click on the smaller one inside the slightly bigger one, it checks to see what the color is of the picturebox "under. It", or the Picturebox thats bigger than it, and is like sourounding the smaller one in the middle of it... If when you click the small one, and the BG Color of the one that's under it is Black, change it to white, "my forms bg color is also black"....so the highlighted pictureboxes will seem more like they get highlighted, ya know...
Here's the code, after you've looked at those pictures, you can probably imagine what I want this code to do, and it's really Guiness really, because when I program in VB.NET, and before I go to YouTube to teach others how to do different things with VB.NET,I like to make sure that my program is very simple, but very effective, and does the job. When I click two pictureboxes, and when my app knows that I have clicked 2 of em, which I had no problem being able to do, I want the FIRST PictureBox To Switch With The Second One That Gets Clicked, It's CHESS....It Seems So Damn SImple, BUT I'M STUCK AGAIN, AND I WANT TO MAKE A CHESS BOARD IN VB.NET.

I am working on a little football simulator along similar lines to the Football Manager games. For those who aren't familiar with what they look like, here is an image. So yeah I just have little circles running around on the field. Things are fine but I hate the fact that GDI+, as far as I can tell, is pretty much entirely CPU driven. I mean I am trying to make a video game here and it seems like a waste of the graphics card. In terms of performance, it can be smooth but at other times is choppy.
In another thread I asked about multithreading (which I kind of have the hang of now) and when I run a bunch of tasks in the background the GDI+ performance goes right down, I guess because the CPU is being heavily taxed. I guess I could make sure there isn't much background processing from the game when using the GDI+ but I still don't like having the animation so CPU dependent.

I need to use the character height of a lowercase character. I have tried using MeasureString, but that gives me the same number for both uppercase and lowercase characters. That is not acceptable. How do I get the true height of a character?

Text is entered into a textbox form. Upon button click, the order of characters in the words in textbox.text string will be reversed. The order of the words themselves will stay the same. For example: "I Love Visual Basic 2010." will be converted into "I evoL lausiV cisaB .0102".

I have a string that can be anywhere from 1 to 8 digits long of which each character is a hex number (0-9, A-F) and each character isn't necessarily unique. I need to calculate all possible combinations. Is there a specific term for this type of calculation or combination? I need to learn how to write a program to "calculate" all the possible combinations.

I am working on a sub that essentially needs to open a text file, and replace all instances of a certain character with a unicode character. I'm trying to do this by reading the original text file byte by byte, converting it to a character, and then either adding that character to a memory stream or writing the unicode character to the memory stream. Then I'm saving the memory stream to the original file.

For each character of this string I want a new character out of the string and then remove the character from the list of characters that still maybe used for other characters. It may not get the same character, you could basically just call this encryption, but it's not what I am making. I don't want to waste my time doing this one hour while VB can do this for me in <1 second.

How the logic is confusing. I was thinking of making a Variable that stores the time NOW and once the uploads 1 file, another variable will take the time and subtract it from the old time and times it by the number of files left. Or as you can see I have a little % calculation there and I could use that to calculate the amount of time left. Will that be consistent? Or are there other ways to achieve the result
