I'm working on the exercise page 73 (VB 2010 in 24 hours). It's basically a form with 2 text boxes, 2 text labels and a command button. It's really simple and uses this loop to cycle through the items, and tell me the name of them in a Messagebox

This might not be so 'VB' as it is 'SQL using VB' I have an application with a built in MS Access DB. I have a table that has a column full of integers, I shoot the DB a SQL "order by 'column name' " string and it returns the table ordered by my column of integers.BUT it returns them like this, and I want them like this

1 5
2 4

View 2 RepliesI have a databound Datagridview. The DGV is bound to a datatable of a strongly typed DataSet created using the wizard. Is there any way to re order the columns before displaying them eg: the Columns are displayed in the DGV in this other Col4, Col6, Col3, Col1,Col5, Col2

I realise that the display order followed the Column order in the database table and by extension, the datatable. I have re-arranged the columns in the Database but the Datatable still retains the old order.

i frequently have troubles with the dock property. it seems that either the order of creation or adding to the parent control determines whether or not a control's dock property supersedes another's. e.g. a control with the dockstyle fill will overlap with another docked control on the same parent. does anyone know what the rules are to determine how docking will behave; particularly in dynamically created GUIs?

View 8 RepliesI have a dgv with 5 columns (combos) added with the wizard, then in the form constructor i set the datasource, value member, displaymember and datapropertyname for each one, after this i fill the main data table and set the dgv datasource with it.If i just do this and don't use the display index, the columns show in an wired order, doesn't show up like i defined in the wizard neither in the order of the sql statement.

View 2 RepliesI have a form containing a datagridview and a groupbox containing 2 radiobuttons.If radiobutton 1 is selected only the order headers are shown.If radiobutton 2 is selected only the orderlines are shown.There also is a button called "show". When clicked the dgv gets filled with data.When I first select radiobutton 2 (orderlines) and I press the show button the columns in the DGV are in the right order (as shown in the code "strview").If I select radiobutton 1 still the columns are in the right order.HOWEVER...when I now select radiobutton 2 the order of the columns get all messed up.

I managed to figure out how to save and update from xml but I don't know how to put it in any particular order. Is this possible with it bound, or would I need to write particular code to custom-fill in the date grid? All I am looking for is an a-z sort.

Somehow I need to get these in order numerically but I am dealing with strings not numbers.
I'm making a keyboard test that will test to make sure each key, in a specific keyboard layout, is working correctly.
Each key, with the exception of the first, will be disabled by default. I need to have the tester press the first key (Escape) and if it works, disable that key and move on to the next, (F1). This process will repeat until all the keys have tested.
The dilemma I have is figuring out how to test each keystroke, in order, without making a huge nested if statement.
The only method I could think of, at the moment, was to check the Enable property of the control and then check for the correct keystroke. But, again, doing this would make a huge mess.

VB 2010 Express + MS Access 2003
today I successfully configured an interface to work with a test database I created in MS Access 2003. The database consists of only 8 records with 10 fields.
I used the basic built-ins with VB 2010 to build the interface in a simple form which shows only 6 of the 10 fields. It all seems to work well, that is the connection string built correctly, and I can run the program and view the individual records. My trouble is that when it goes to the 1st record it's actually the 3rd record in the database. And when I go to the last record it's actually the 2nd record in the database and the next to the last record is actually the first record in the database.
why the program seems to start at the 3 record and shifts the first two records to the end. All the records show up, it's just that they are somewhat out of order.
Is there an easy way to set the tab order for controls on a form in Visual Basic 2010 Express? I saw some references to a "View / Tab Order" menu item, but I don't see anything like this in the View menu when I am designing a form.

I have a specific need for the order of the columns (which I set at design time) but for some reason Visual Studio regularly changes the order of my columns on me when opening the project is VS. So, every time I compile I have to go make sure the columns are still in the correct order. Sometimes they are, sometimes they aren't.
I remember this same behavior in 2002/03 version of Visual Studio with tabs and tab order. If it makes a difference, these datagrids are created at design time with LINQ2SQL Data Sources. I did this all the time with VS2008 and never noticed this behavior.
I am writing an application that is doing a file conversion.I created a new process in order to run an exe and pass it some arguments in order to do the file conversion. I ran this in the Submit button click event.I added an event handler for when the Process had exited and then continued my code, since I had to wait for the file conversion to complete before continuing.
Everything is running fine now up until the point where I am trying to call a FillBy for one of my datasets. My fill by is accepting a parameter UserID and filling it based on the user id, which is selected in a combo box in the program itself.I keep getting exceptions and it immediately exits the program whenever I try and use this fillby method, if I take it out it completes successfully; however, the new row I just inserted was not added.
I tried adding a tryparse for the value selected from the UserID combobox but I get this cross-thread exception, so I have a feeling the 2 are related.
