View 1 RepliesI am creating a program to manage seats in an auditorium. The person who will be using this program will need to be able to use the program to print tickets, mark seats as broken, or clear a seat.My thoughts have been of using checkboxes and saving the stuff in the My.Settings. There has to be an alternative to putting 450 checkboxes in, Labeling them, naming them, and so on and so forth. I started putting them in the program seen below:And then I remember of course, I need it to be able to do multiple days. So suddenly things get really hard.
View 1 RepliesIs it possible to create an application with vb.net to track a users usage of Excel, Word and another application called lets say - Userapp.exe
At work we have been asked to create a diary of our days work and since most of my work is in excel, word and a custom application I have built, I was wondering if it was possible to track the usage of these programs store the data in a datatable and then save it to a access db.
Usage of the program would mean the time that the file is open on the screen, that way the time a program is open but minimised in the taskbar would not be counted.
The data table would have these headings -
1. Program (i.e excel, word etc.)
2. Name of File used
3. Time used in program
Could I use the windows task manager for this?

View 7 RepliesBit of a Noobie question here, I have a process, for example[code]...
I need to launch the process from within code in a form or module and I want to monitor its progress, for example with a progress bar.
The problem I have is that in order to use a 'progress form' I have to show a form modally, then kick off the process (usually with a button) and allow a cancel option.
I want the form to show then start running automatically without user intervention.
hat i am trying to accomplish is execute a dos command with the following
frmStatusBar.Show()
' Set start information.
Dim start_info As New ProcessStartInfo(sOutput)
[code].....
I would just like to know if there is a way to integrate a progressbar that shows the progress of the process? I mean when process.Start is activated, that's when the progressbar starts to load until and stops only when process.HasExited.

Now it seems to work fine, but I'm working with very large files (70+ GB) across a network (local copy is not an option) and while the function is executing if the user moves the application the screen can go blank and they can panic. What I want is a way to update something like a progress bar to give feedback to the user.
I have created a listbox with several items that when a button is clicked, it opens up the application that uses that file and then starts the file. this all works fine, but I wanted to know if there is a way to show a marquee-type progress bar for each process as it's being opened?
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
If CheckedListBox1.SelectedItem = "ITEM ONE" Then
Process.Start("c:\DIRECTORY\ITEMONE.exe")
End If

I have a form that I will be using to copy directories of photos from memory cards to locations on a computer. I would like to add a progress bar to the application to show the progress of the copying in real time. This is the code that I use to copy the directory in the first place
Dim SourceDir As String = SourceTextBox.Text
Dim DestinationDir As String = DestinationTextbox.Text
If System.IO.Directory.Exists(DestinationDir) Then
My.Computer.FileSystem.CopyDirectory(SourceDir, DestinationDir,)
Else
My.Computer.FileSystem.CreateDirectory(Destination Dir)
My.Computer.FileSystem.CopyDirectory(SourceDir, DestinationDir)
I am working on a small VB application that listens for commands sent from an Android app.
One of the functions is to extract an archive. I am familiar with how to listen for the unrar process to finish, so I can display a progressdialog on the phone while the extraction is happening, and clear it as soon as it's done.
BUT ... if there is an error/alert from WinRAR, WaitForExit() never gets called because WinRAR is still sitting there open until I click "OK" on the MsgBox.
For Example ... if you try to extract a file that is not actually an archive... an alert will pop up saying "No Archives Found", and basically everything is halted on the VB app and the Android app, and the Android app just sits on a progressdialog saying "extracting..." until you manually hit "OK" on the computer.
As you can imagine, this is a problem if the whole point of your app is to NOT have to go over to the computer.
So... I am wondering if there is something similar to WaitForExit() that will wait for an error and allow me to close out the alert and let the process end.
Here's my Sub for the UnRar command:
Private Sub UnRar(ByVal WorkingDirectory As String, ByVal filepath As String)
Dim objRegKey As RegistryKey
objRegKey = Registry.ClassesRoot.OpenSubKey("WinRARShellOpenCommand")

I am working with saving and deleting images. What i really want to do is check and see if an image exists in the destination folder and if it does automatically overwrite it. i couldnt figure that out so i figured i would look to see if the file was there if it is Delete it then write the new file..The issue is i keep getting this error.The process cannot access the file "FileName" because it is being used by another process. View 2 RepliesI have a progress bar that I'd like to 'load' as a song is being played (I'm using Windows Media Player). I've attempted it but I haven't gotten very far, more specifically I'm stuck at setting the value of the progress bar to match WMP.
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
ProgressBar1.Maximum = AxWindowsMediaPlayer1.currentMedia.duration
ProgressBar1.Value = AxWindowsMediaPlayer1.Ctlcontrols.currentPosition <- This is where I'm stuck
ProgressBar1.Increment(1)
End Sub
Does anyone know how to do one?
View 10 RepliesIm using a few workbooks in excel to calculate data and then I import them to access and finally I use it in visual basic front end.
Now the workbooks can get quite heavy and it takes some time for the computer to open and save and so on, so Ive put a progress bar on my form to show the user that something is happening.
However I would like to use excels own progressbar, so that when the workbook is being saved, my app actually shows the progress of that particular save. Can I do that? The instance of excel that handles the workbooks is hidden.
I got a program that starts a batch file into a textbox and makes backups of my database things, I would like to add a progressbar to my program to see while the progress is running, here is my code, but its not working good at all, I mean, the progressbar one works, but it dont update with the files copied, etc...

Dim SW As System.IO.StreamWriter
Dim SR As System.IO.StreamReader
Dim i As Integer

For some reason, the code to update my progress bar is not working. I uncommented the Msgbox line, and a message is only displayed at 100%. Why is this?
I have written a windows service that is meant to launch a notepad when a specific action happens. The problem i have is that even though the service launches notepad, the actual notepad it self is NOT visible. I know that it has been launced because i can see the process in the task manager. By the way the process is listed as a SYSTEM process rather than a process under my user name (i believe that is because my process is a "LocalSystem" one).

View 7 RepliesI have some issues with background worker progress reporting functionality. I'm implementing a progress indicator and even if I marked the backgroundworker as report progress (true), it won't report progress until it finish the job.
The code is like this:
Private Sub BackgroundWorker1_DoWork(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.ComponentModel.DoWorkEventArgs) Handles BackgroundWorker1.DoWork
action_1()
[code]....
The result is as expected (label1 with 100 value) but only when worker finished all the steps. If I'm triggering a messagebox in ProgressChange I see two message windows at the end of DoWork handle.
