Displaying Progress Of A File Stream Being Consumed By Another Process?
Feb 16, 2010
I've asked this before, or something similar, but can't find it so I don't know what the answer, if any, was.
[Code]...
Now it seems to work fine, but I'm working with very large files (70+ GB) across a network (local copy is not an option) and while the function is executing if the user moves the application the screen can go blank and they can panic. What I want is a way to update something like a progress bar to give feedback to the user.

I have the following function
Private Function GetMD5(ByVal file As String) As String
Dim md5 As MD5CryptoServiceProvider = New MD5CryptoServiceProvider
Dim f As FileStream = New FileStream(file, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read, FileShare.Read, 8192)
md5.ComputeHash(f)
[code]....
It works fine, but when working with very large files on the network my users sometimes panic.I'd like to add a progress bar that updates based on the progress of the hashing through the file.So, my choice are either to manually create the hashing process, which I believe will be much slower,or somehow tap in to the position value of the filestream and use that to update a progress bar.I'd be happy to tap into the events of the MD5CryptoServiceProvider if I could, but I don't see anything there.I have searched the net to try to find an example and have only found code that works by reading line by line from the filestream, not from it being passed to another control/service.

I am using a Data Grid View to display data that come in from a tcp stream. When the stream receives data, the data is parsed and placed at the top of the grid. These are my top 3 lines of the cell clicked event of the Data Grid View.
Code:
If SpotsGrid.CurrentRow.Index = Nothing Then Exit Sub
i = SpotsGrid.CurrentRow.Index
tempFreq = CStr(SpotsGrid.Item(1, i).Value)
I placed the top line there to prevent errors when a user clicks on a blank grid before any data has been placed in the grid and to stop selecting anything if a user clicks on a column header. But my problem is as data is added to the to the top line that line of data is not click-able because the index=0 or Nothing. So my question is what would be the best way to code this so it is protected from the user clicking on a blank grid and the column headers but still allow the user to click on the first line of data?

I am using the following code located here to upload files
Public Function UploadFile(ByVal oFile As FileInfo) As Boolean
Dim ftpRequest As FtpWebRequest
Dim ftpResponse As FtpWebResponse
[Code]....
I would like to extend it, so i can have an upload progress too. The problem is that i do not know from where to start. What is the "logic" of displaying the upload progress?
"Split the file" in predefined parts and upload them or what?

I don't know VB very well, but I need to create a wrapper program for any executable that logs the arguments, all input, output and err information:
My wrapper is called: e.g. someApp.exe arg1 arg2
Logs to someApp.log: arg1 arg2
Calls original executable: _someApp.exe arg1 arg2
Must log and forward any console input to _someApp process inputstream
Must log any output and error stream from _someApp process
I'm stuck at point 4 now:
Dim p As New ProcessStartInfo
p.FileName = execute
p.Arguments = Command()
p.UseShellExecute = False
p.CreateNoWindow =
[Code] .....
After _someApp ends I am able to read out and err stream to log it, but I still need to provide my own wrappers input to the process and I want to read out and err stream as it happens.

I have a WinForms app and am trying to add the ability to start up multiple operations based on data entered in a datagridview. The operations must be run synchronously to monitor that they complete succesfully before inserting a row into the DB to indicate that the operation was succesfull. I also have a status event handler on the operation which will return the percentage of the running operation.
So far I am using threads to kick off the operations, however it is updating the progress of just one of the threads. When that thread is complete it is moving on the the next and will work that until completion. I would like them both or more to run simultaneously and be able to report the status of each.
I am basically looping through the rows in the grid and using the values there to instantiate a new class I created. I am then creating a thread and kicking off a sub to perform the operation from the new object. I think I may be close as I know they are all being started, but they are just running one after the other rather than all at once.

Got a bit of a weird problem with a progress bar. I'm using a backgroundworker, which calls a "Process" function in a different class. The function goes about its business, and sends an update back to the form displaying the progress bar. What I'm finding is that its doing everything right, except update the progress and a label on the form. I've put breakpoints in to check the values of variables being sent to the form, and they're correct. I've also checked the value/maximum of the progress bar during the same break as I step through, and they're being set correctly.
they're just not displaying their updated status. I've tried refresh and application.doevents, to no avail. When the backgroundworker is complete, the values of the progress bar/label are as if I've never touched them! When the worker is complete, the Close button is enabled, so I know its finished. Anybody got any pointers/thoughts on this because I've been battling with this for a day and a half so far. I'm using the same technique as I've used elsewhere in the app to do similar backgroundworker progress updates, but this one refuses to work properly.

I copied the code here and translate the code to vb [URL]it is working fine but there is one small problem but I cannot solve? Here is my code: SyncClientVB Another Source The scenario is... the progress is reported by an event (OnCopyingFile event)
Public Sub OnCopyingFile(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As CopyingFileEventArgs)
If pbFileTransfer.Value <> e.PercentCopied Then
If txtCurrentFile.Text <> e.FilePath Then
txtCurrentFile.Text = e.FilePath
[code]....
The problem is that it is ok when runned but when I click the form it starts to hang but in the console... it is still continuing.

Bit of a Noobie question here, I have a process, for example[code]...
I need to launch the process from within code in a form or module and I want to monitor its progress, for example with a progress bar.
The problem I have is that in order to use a 'progress form' I have to show a form modally, then kick off the process (usually with a button) and allow a cancel option.
I want the form to show then start running automatically without user intervention.

Dim DestinationDir As String = DestinationTextbox.Text

I need to provide a DLL that is consumed by a VBA app (Access 2003, late binding) and returns stuff that is retrieved from various WebServices. These WebServices publish methods that not only return a single object, but also arrays of them.
From the Access-app's point of view, it's no problem to consume i.e. an array of strings. However, there's also methods that return an array of a (proprietary) class. I can't seem to be able to consume such an array from VBA.[code]....

We had plan to create a three tiered architecture database application, where the middle tier will be implemented using Web Service. We're going to use Linux for the server, so I think for the web service to be able to be implemented, we only had PHP/Java left. Is this right?
The constraint is, we're going to use VB.NET for the client application.We already had a two tiered VB.NET application from our last successfull database application. It use a lot of DataSet for the result of SQL execution. Now, what I had in mind, is a simple approach of converting all procedure that return a DataSet Object, to be a WebService method. But, because of this thinking, I don't think we can do it in Java/PHP. That is, we'll be enforce to use a ASP.NET approach. Is this correct? I assume my answer from this article Consuming a DataSet from an XML Web Service (ADO.NET)

When I load my solution and compile it after first starting the IDE, everything works as expected. After changing source and recompiling, I get the following compile error:
Error 11 Unable to copy file "objDebugCAMDRS.Library.dll" to "binCAMDRS.Library.dll". The process cannot access the file 'binCAMDRS.Library.dll' because it is being used by another process. CAMDRS.Library.
After closing Visual Studio 2005 and reopening the solution I can compile again successfully. This is an old solution that has been fine for a long time. I just recently changed computers and reinstalled everything.I am running win XP Pro sp2, Visual Studio 2005 sp1.

in an winForm app in VS2010 win 7 compiling to x86, I try to do what Alvas.Audio seems to work. See (c# ex: [URL] for reference.
Dim data() As Byte = wr.ReadData(second * i, second)
The result give me data.length()=0. I do not have any exception, I can read format from it and whatever reader I use I got this problem.EDIT : After some tests, it seems like the uncompressed file I create in the first step (in PCM format, with .wav extension) can not be recognized by the Alvas.audio library for the second step. I must miss something around Audio file markups or something alike.
Here is the code that might be the source (basically this is step 1):
Dim functOut As String = String.Empty
Dim wr As Alvas.Audio.IAudioReader = Nothing
Dim fs As IO.FileStream = Nothing
[code]....
How can I write the resulted stream to be sure I can read it again later?
