View 21 RepliesI recently bought a pair of usb gamepads. The problem with them is that they are usually not identified properly at start up so they usually don't work. If you simply unplug them and then plug them back in, they always work perfectly. The problem with this is that I plan to use them to for a joystick in a mame cabinet (pc-powered arcade cabinet). Basically I don't want the user to have manually unplug and plug in the usb cables (which will be hidden inside the cabinet) every time they turn the thing on.
Is there a way to simulate an unplug and plug in through vb.net? It would not need to apply to specific ports or anything, there would be no problem if the entire machine's usb capability was simply was disabled then re-enabled to achieve this. I'd like to write a program that does this and just put it in my startup folder, but after a good deal of searching I haven't been able to find any example code or very specific clues.
I want to read the ethernet port by using visual basic. It would be great if anyone can guide me for this.

View 4 Replies[code]Through these ports I have been able to connect simple press-button triggers (or switches) and programatically "read" them. i.e. tell when they are open or closed, grounded to earth or not.With modern PCs I am now somewhat limited. I can still use the MIC port and USB port (when connected to a USB/Serial cable) but since WiFi, my ethernet port is now "available". If you've read this far, you already know my question. How can I "read" the ethernet port pins. I realize that perhaps not all the pins may be simply read, but perhaps one or two at least.
View 1 RepliesIn the past I have been able to simply read the physical pinouts on the:
Games Port (DB15) (using PEEKS and POKES)
Parallel Port (DB25) (also using PEEK and POKES(888))

I am writing an app that does part of what another app does (I have no access to the source for the other app other than to see Wireshark output.)
I need to send a broadcast over the LAN and then parse the results. However, the sending of the broadcast seems to be code that is direct to the LAN connection, as in it doesn't seem to write to a standard IP/port combo.
I see apps like Raw Ether that do this at a cost of hundreds of dollars.
Is there some way to not have to buy 3rd party stuff to do this in VS2011 w/ VB.net?
I have a device that communicates with the pc via a serial to usb cable. So I have made windows form with a serial communication to speak with it. The communication is every 125ms so every time it checks if the com port is open and sends the new message. The problem is that if the usb is not connected the program tries every 125 ms to connect to the serial port and the busy cursor appears always and the form is not responding to any action (for example enter into the menu or refresh a listbox). I have tried multiple times to connect and disconnect the usb while the program is running. That's mean that the serial connection stopped and started all over again several time. The problem is that occasionally it shows an error "unable to open com port".

View 5 RepliesSo I am trying to get info from a scale using an RS232 cable into a VB2010 program. But before we even start talking about that, I don't know ANYTHING about serial ports. I need to learn how to get the data from the scale without programming first... I am using Win7. I do have a sample program (w/ source) I downloaded [URL]) It runs without any errors, then I have a big USER error, what do I push? How do I tinker to figure out the right settings on this interface? or any interface. These are the sittings for the scale: [URL] I am considering returning my scale and getting something with maybe USB on it, I need to be able to weight things up 100lbs, I am shipping car parts.

View 9 RepliesI have a VB.net app running on one computer, displaying text into 2 texboxes or labels.I need to see the two values in two sperate textboxes or labels from the two labels on another computer via a null modem serial adapter.
1st computer.
Code:
serialport1.writeline(label1.txt)
straight forward right?
2nd computer to read the data
Code:
Private Sub SerialPort1_DataReceived(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.IO.Ports.SerialDataReceivedEventArgs) Handles SerialPort1.DataReceived
dim s as new string = serialport1.readline()
label1.text = s
This is what I was thinking;
Code:
serialport.writeline(label1.text & label2.text
This would send the two values over the serial port. How would I seperate the two values and display them in two different texboxes?cannot use them together)Am I on the right path at all? Or using the serialport.writeline method won't work at all....
I am doing wrong? I am using VB2008/VB.NET to send a command (set to 4 volts) to a Tenma DC Power Supply over an RS232 cable. I don't have documentation from Tenma that lists the commands that the instrument understands, I got "VOLT040" from a program in an older version of VB that someone else wrote for this instrument. The code is below:

I have a desktop computer with a cable connection on the back that allows me to watch TV on the computer using Windows Media Center. I had the idea of writing a program that would access this feed and send it to another computer (laptop) via my network. That way I would be able to watch TV from anywhere that my network spans. I have no idea if this is possible or how I would even do it,
So I have three questions.
1: Is it possible?
2: How would I go about access the feed?
3: How would I send it over the network?
My original thought was doing it in Flash, but I'm not very good at Flash so I wanted to do it in VB.Net.
When trying to import CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine, and CrystalDecisions.Shared. I'm getting a green line. What might be the problem?

View 5 RepliesVB.Net 2010 program .exe on PC with Excel 2007 gives error when cannot find Excel version 14, which is Excel 2010 I have developed a program in VB.Net 2010 which reads from an Excel spreadsheet. It works fine in the IDE on my computer. I built an .msi and executed it on my computer. I get "Error: 53 - Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel, Version=14.0.0.0, Culture=neutral,PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified."
The only version of Excel on my computer is 2007, which is version 12.0.6557.5000. The version the error says it needs, version 14, is actually the version of Excel 2010.I have put in MsgBox statements to find where the error occurs.

At present I have wrote an application (in-house CRM, vb .net 2010) which allows me to send emails under the selected customer & I categorised these emails.As these are categorised I can return data to display email history in my program by using search criteria:
Dim oMail As Outlook.MAPIFolder = oNS.GetDefaultFolder(Outlook.OlDefaultFolders.olFolderSentMail)
Dim sSearch As String
sSearch = "[Categories] = '" + "[" + tAccount.Text.Trim + "]" + "(" + tShipTo.Text.Trim + ")'"
Dim oItems As Outlook.Items = oMail.Items.Restrict(sSearch)
However the limitation to the above is it only looks at sent items & no other folder.My ideal solution would be to display all email correspondence for a certain contact.
The situation: when i build my project (or publish) Visual Basic 2010 makes and exe and a couple ddl files. when i run the project with the .exe and the other files the program works perfectly.
My problem: I want to share it with friends and it is just a verry little program ( a n internet radio) so i want it to be 1 .exe with out any other instalation needed so i can easly share it to anyone who wants it. when i make an even smaller program and Debud->build it, it is only 1 exe and no instalation needed. so is there a way to make my program to 1 exe only?

View 1 Repliesthis is my very first posting and I must say I am desperate. I have a VB assignment due in 2 days and I am so lost. I have written a code to draw some graphic, just a basic house, tree, sun etc. I have also written a code to magnify said graphics which were all the specifications of my Assignment 1 part A. Now for Part B I am being asked to extend my program so that: A - My graphic can be drawn using different colour schemes designed by me but chosen by the user B - My graphic or an appropriate part of it can be animated around the picture box if the user chooses to do so. C - Error checking is included.

it's just for a program registration. i would store all of the registration codes in the access database, then export it to XML, then upload it to my web host. I would then somehow connect it to my Visual Basics login form (Which I have already made). If this can't be done, having them register through the form and having all the allowed codes on the internet (So i can easily edit them)!
