View 4 RepliesI'm having trouble setting up a connection to the DB.... When I go into VS 2008 on the left hand side (Server Explorer), I right click on the "Data Connections" option and select Add Connection and get the following error:
"The Microsoft.VisualStudio.Data.Interop.IVsDataProviderManager service could not be found."
Does the database connection have to be set inside a TransactionScope?
Or can I set it in the ctor and then have instance methods create up a TransactionScope?
EDIT: e.g.
Public Sub New()
Dim conn = new SqlConnection(...connection string)
Public Sub SomeClassMethod()
[Code].....
the question is do you need to create the connection to the database after you've created a TransactionScope or can it be done before?
I Downloaded MySQL Connector (the latest, 6.1.X), and i cant really understand how to use it in VB.Net... I Added it to references. All what I need to know is what imports to use, how to set connection with remote server and how do I select and insert to tables.

View 5 RepliesI have a little problem with application setting in VB.net 2008. I want to switch main server and backup server connection string with combobox. [Code] It did change the Application Setting connection string in the main form when combobox1 was changed. But the problem comes, when child form was called. On the child form there is DataGridView with Dataset using application connection string. Even the Backupserver was selected on the main form, child form dataset connection string doesn't change. I don't know how to pass the current connection string to child form dataset although it is set to use application setting.

I can still use the MIC port and USB port (when connected to a USB/Serial cable) but since WiFi, my ethernet port is now "available". If you've read this far, you already know my question. How can I "read" the ethernet port pins. I realize that perhaps not all the pins may be simply read, but perhaps one or two at least.

I am writing an app that does part of what another app does (I have no access to the source for the other app other than to see Wireshark output.)
I need to send a broadcast over the LAN and then parse the results. However, the sending of the broadcast seems to be code that is direct to the LAN connection, as in it doesn't seem to write to a standard IP/port combo.
I see apps like Raw Ether that do this at a cost of hundreds of dollars.
Is there some way to not have to buy 3rd party stuff to do this in VS2011 w/ VB.net?
I have a remote computer on Cable Internet. Im needing to dial a phone number which is on a Avaya VoIP network. Is there any way to do this in vb.net? Ive noticed alot of stuff using modems and AT commands but thats not what Im really looking for.

In our projects we use setting variables to store user setting for the applications. Moreover, with every latest version of the applications, we upgrade these variables to retain user settings.Normally, this works fine, but recently one of my end user reported an error i.e.Configuration System failed to initialize". The error is related to user.config file. Therefore we requested the user to send us his file.After received the folder, we noticed that it contains 3 files (3begfjb.newcfg,3begfjb.tmp and user. config). 3begfjb.tmp is an empty file, while 3begfjb.newcfg and user.config are identical files. We tried to open these files but the data in user.config isn't proper xml rather its unreadable formatted file.Do any you guys had experienced this sort of issue or any ideas how and what may have created these files and corrupted user.config file.

I am attempting to write a program that will disable the Local Area Connection while leaving the Wireless connection enabled. My company is using net-books in our stores to demo air-cards and we need to keep them off of the LAN. I'm new to VB and VB.net, and it's been a while since I did any type of programming. I've gathered some code that others have posted in forums and tutorials and I'm working through a tutorial book, but I finally believe that I am stuck.

I am connecting to a data stream that pushes data continuously and when I tried to set up a network stream I just could not connect and kept getting the 'not found' error. I used the httpwebrequest with webrequest.keepalive = true and started to consume the data by reading into a buffer and then appending to a stringbuilder. Once the stringbuilder reaches max size I flush it to a text file. The problem is that I get disconnected from the data stream because I am not reading the data fast enough. I need to keep the connection open and read the data while ensuring data gets stored in text files. If I use method "CONNECT" it does not connect to the stream.
While (True)
webrequest = DirectCast(Net.WebRequest.Create(url), HttpWebRequest)
webrequest.Credentials = New System.Net.NetworkCredential(username, password)
webrequest.Method = "GET"

should I increase the buffer size and if so what is the max? that would mean I can read more data at a time and keep up with incoming push. Disparate here.
ACtually also I noticed that it gets stuck on this line
numbytesread = responseStream.Read(bufferread, 0, BUFFER_SIZE)
and then eventually I get disconnected.

View 1 RepliesI understand the possibilities for encrypting a connection string in .net v4. I have a win forms application that will be used by multiple people on different machines. I understand that I need to protect the connection string at time of the app being first run on the target machine. However I am concerned that for a period of time my connection string will be unencrypted. I am looking for advice in how to deploy my app with the connection string already encrypted or encrypted during installation. encrypting the connection string in a secure way?

I'm developing a device app in VB.net that will access a SQL Server database. I need to establish a connection when the app is launched, and keep the connection open until the app is closed. I've done the following:In the Master Module:
Public CNN
As SqlConnection
In the Main menu form load:
CNN =
New SqlConnection(sqlConnString)
CNN.Open()
Then when I want to read from the database:
Dim sqlDR
As SqlDataReader
SQL = "SELECT Name FROM Table"
[code]....
When I run the same code without the global CNN, but rather dim the connection inside the Select function, all works well.
I'm developing an app in vb.net (visual studio 2008). I have a Teradata back-end that will be supporting multiple users in a production environment. I need to use variables in the connection string as the user/pass will be changed every 3 months.
For the gist of the application:
In it's most basic form - I have a search form which works correctly - it pulls results into a listbox and the user then double clicks the list box which will then open a form that is bound via table adapter to the back-end table (Teradata). My connection string is fine everywhere in the application. My problem is using a modified connection string for the "fill" function of the table adapter once the form is opened.
I'm using the code below for the on-load event and keep getting an "invalid connection string" - again, the connection string works fine everywhere else in the app, and the variables etc... are working correctly.
Private Sub adaptertest_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
Dim DBConnStr As String = "Provider=TDOLEDB;Data Source=TDDEV;Persist Security
