Variable Is Not Showing Its Type In LinQ?

Aug 28, 2009

Dim mYVariable = From C In dtXMLConverter Select C I am using the above mentioned syntax for getting the rows in the variable named "mYVariable" after issuing the from clause when I am moving my mouse cursor on the variable name, it is showing "Dim mYVariable As Object" instead of showing DataRow or something like that. I can't understand how to solve this problem.

where dtXMLConverter = DataTable

Cast Array In Object Variable To Type In System.Type Variable?

Apr 14, 2010

I have this function:

Public Sub DoStuff(ByVal type as System.Type, ByVal value as Object)
End Sub

The 'value' argument is always an array of the same type as 'type'. How can I loop through the values of the array?

I'd like to be able to do something like this:

DoStuff(GetType(Integer), New Integer(){1,2,3})
Public Sub DoStuff(ByVal type as System.Type, ByVal value as Object)
//Strongly types arr as Integer()

Cast A Variable To A Type Represented By Another Type Variable?

Oct 10, 2009

I'm aware that questions like this have been asked before and I doubt it's possible, but I just wanted to make 100% sure that it isn't.In VB.net or C# (either language, it doesn't matter), I want to cast a variable to a type represented by another Type variable. Here's an example of the kind of code that would be needed in C#:

Object castMe = new Foo();
Type castTo = typeof(Foo);
Foo beenCast = (castTo.GetRepresentedType())castMe;

LINQ To Entities Does Not Recognize The Method [Type] GetValue[Type]?

Mar 14, 2012

I've a simple class like this:

Public Class CalculationParameter{
public Long TariffId{get;set;}
}

In a workflow activity, I've an Assign like this:

(From tariffDetail In db.Context.TariffDetails
Where tariffDetial.TariffId = calculationParameter.TariffId).FirstOrDefault()

Dto is passed to Activity as an Input Argument.It raise following error and I'm wondering how to assign Id.LINQ to Entities does not recognize the method 'Int64

GetValue[Int64](System.Activities.LocationReference)' method, and this method cannot be translated into a store expression.

How can I assign the calculationParameter.TariffId to tariffDetial.TariffId?!

UPDATE:Screen shot attached shows that how I'm trying to assign calculationParameter.TariffId to tariffDetail.TariffId (car.Id = Dto.Id) and the query result should assign to CurrentTrafficDetail object.

Program Function - Says, "The Type For Variable [variable] Will Not Be Inferred Because It Is Bound To A Field

May 18, 2012

Public Class Form1
Dim x, c, number(0 To 19) As Integer
Dim s As Integer

[CODE]...

The variables in the brackets [example] do not actually have brackets in them in the original code. These are where the issues are. For both variables, it says, "The type for variable [variable] will not be inferred because it is bound to a field in an enclosing scope. Either change the name of [variable], or use the fully qualified name (for example, 'Me.[variable]' or 'MyBase.[variable]')." Now, I'm not entirely sure if this is a stupid question or not, as I'm used to VB '98 because that's what we use in my programming class at High School. let me know why this won't work.

-Note: The intention of this program is to continually loop the generation of numbers for this list until I tell it to stop. Button1 ends the program, Button2 generates the list one time only, Button3 is supposed to loop the generation of the list, and Button4 is supposed to end the loop, but not the program.

Variable Naming Conventions To Illustrate Variable Type And Where Variables Are Declared

Aug 24, 2009

I am looking for a good resource on variable naming conventions to illustrate variable type and where variables are declared. So I will have public variables, Private variables, private or local variables. I also may want to declare variables with the same name in different class code (i.e. in the code behind different forms). I am assuming good coding would dicatate a prefix for declaration location.

Session Variable Is Showing As NULL

Jun 30, 2011

I'm using some session variables to store and pass data across several pages of an ASP.Net application. The behavior is a bit unpredictable though. [Code] Ok so far so good, on a normal page load. If the user completes the form action, hits the next page, and decides OH NO, i needed to change field xyz, and clicks back, corrects the data, then submits, the session variable is showing as NULL. Why would a cached session behave this way? I'm not destroying/clearing the variable, unless I fail to understand the scope of session variables.

C# - Copy Object Of Type AA To An Empty Variable Of Type BB?

Feb 15, 2010

Writing an asp.net mvc app and i have something like this...

Public Class AA
'... has some variables...
End Class
Public Class BB

[code]....

So, now in my program, i just want to copy object of type AA to an empty variable of type BB?it makes sense to do this, as i expect all the fields in AA type object to be copied to the newly created BB type object, and the ExtraVariable in the BB type object i would (will) just assign a value to it later (after the copy) on my own time!!I know copying BB type to AA type would not be appropriate as there would be lost data!But im trying to copy AA to BB, I've used both DirectCast and CType to do this, and i keep getting "unable to cast" error!

Note: I'm using vb.net (but can read c#, no problems)

In visual studio 2010 beta 2 this doesn't appear to happen.Is it a feature that needs 'turning on' somehow?I've tried debugging in 64 bit mode and x86 mode, neither works.

LINQ To SQL: Unable To Cast Object Of Type 'System.Guid' To Type 'System.String'

Nov 15, 2011

I am getting a really bizarre error and it makes no sense at all.Basically I have a user entity which has a Password property. This property is of Type Binary, the server data type being Binary(512).I am reading this value in and converting it to a byte array. However whenever I run my code I am getting a completely unrelated error of Unable to cast object of type 'System.Guid' to type 'System.String'.This strikes me as very odd since I am not using a property or variable of type string or GUID anywhere in this procedure where it falls over.

The code is below:

Public Shared Function ValidateUser(ByVal username As String, ByVal password As String) As UserValidationMessage
Using db As New EntityMapDataContext
Dim u = From user In db.Users
Where user.Username = username

Asp.net - Update Linq To Sql With Variable Names?

Apr 15, 2012

im pretty much a beginner to using ASP.net and linq to sql but what im trying to do is update a column of a table based on a variable. at the momment i have

Dim db As New sqldcDataContext Dim update As tableName = (From i in db.tableNames _ Select i)

i think this selects everything, how could i have two variables, one to store what table to update and the other what column. is this possible?edit: sorry for being unclear im trying to make this as dynamic as possible so i dont have to type in the exact table/col names. something like this but in the linq to sql syntax.

mysql_query("SELECT * FROM ". $table ." WHERE `" . $column . "` = "" . $data ."");

LINQ Variable Not Declared Error

May 24, 2012

I am trying to run this line of code: Dim OrderedFiles() As String = Directory.GetFiles(FilePath).OrderBy(x >= x.CreationTime)

I get an error on x saying x is not declared. I have my project set to Option Strict Off and Option Infer On. If I turn ON Option Strict then I get thousands of errors from the project(it is inherited) and I don't have the time to fix all of them, but x no longer gives me an error. I have googled until I want to throw my computer out the window.

I was hoping for a more elegant solution but here is what I came up with to solve this particular problem.

[Code]...

It is not particularly elegant but it does the job. I was hoping for a one liner LINQ solution and I just don't have the background in LINQ to know how to do the job, time to go buy a book.

Asp.net - Binding Different LINQ Datasource Using Same Variable W/ If Statement?

Nov 27, 2010

OK So I know WHY I am having the error I am getting. I don't know HOW to fix it. Basically, if the user doesn't have a certain permission, I need to join another table. But .NET is so picky I can't just make two different queries in an IF statement and then use it outside of the if statement. I can think of some ugly work arounds for this, but I would rather not. I am fairly new to .NET I know just enough to be dangerous.

[Code]...

because of this: Dim l As IEnumerable(Of Company) its not just IEnumerable of a Company, its got the source in it. I have to explicitly select source to use it in my datagrid. Can I make Dim l something that will make it stop complaining?

Asp.net - Create A LINQ Statement Where The Table Name (FROM) And Column Name Is Variable?

May 11, 2012

In my programming task I've gone down a dark alley and wished I hadn't, but there is no turning back now.

I'm building up a SQL statement where the table name, column name and id value are retrieved from query string parameters i.e. ("SELECT [{0}] FROM [{1}] WHERE [Id] = {2};", c, t, id)

But it isn't as bad as it looks, I'm protected: Only authenticated users (i.e. signed in users) can execute the Page_Load I'm checking that both the table and the column exists beforehand (using GetSchema etc.)I'm checking that the Id is an integer beforehand All my tables have Id columns The database connection is reasonably secure

.net LINQ Xml Query - Anonymous Type?

Oct 22, 2009

I'm out of my depth populating a windows form from an XML linq query (see code further down in post). The listbox is populated as intended, when a value is selected (row) I would like to populate the remaining form controls. The linq query I believe has created a new datatype "Anonymous Types". The query is only local to the load form subroutine but I'm not sure how to make it global.

When I define the query simply as an object the code in the selectedValueChanged event can't execute due to late databinding. how I can initially load the listbox from linq xml query and then populate the other controls when the value changes? Am I right in thinking even though the listbox is multi-columns (property) you can ONLY ever reference a row and NOT a column? I'm new to LINQ and Anonymous Types and the more I read the more confused I seem to get. On a less important note the order by is not functioning as intended (no errors) but data is always retrieved in xml file order and not by the node <text>. Also looked at using <text>.first to order the results without success.

[Code]...
