Is it possible to initialize a My.Settings value in a Visual Basic Deployment Project (VS 2008)? I can add the Radio Button Dialog to prompt the user, but I don't see how to use that to set the My.Settings value.

The application, and the installer both work fine on my development machine.The installer works fine on other machines, but when I run my application it immediately crashes and dies without telling me anything useful. View 1 RepliesI installed the latest version of Toad yesterday. When I restarted Visual Studio 2008, the project that is my installation package for my application would not longer load. The message I get in the output window is "The Visual Basic Deploy Deployment Package ({CCD045E8-6236-4B3D-B820-97F7DD14C77C}) did not load because of previous errors." When I try to reload that project, I get the following error: " The operation could not be completed. No such interface supported" I tried to repair the VS installation, but that originally failed. The Deployment folder under Common7Tools was currupted so I ran check disk. A few bad files and clusters were found and corrected and the second run of check disk ran clean. I uninstalled Visual Studio and then reinstalled it, but am still getting the same error. I tried reinstalling .Net 3.5 before the reinstall of VS as well. I tried creating a new installation project, but that failed as well.

Clicking on the link it talking about Imports System.Runtime.InteropServices. Which, I am guessing means the project a mixture of both .NET and .COM. How would I rewrite to be totally .Net compatible instead of relying on .COM?Also where would I put code in VB.NET if it was in the Form_Initialize() sub in VB6.0?
I take it that the 2010 Express version doesn't have a package & deployment, it only does CickOnce? That sucks because I don't like the way it installs. Does anybody know of a free package & deployment package?

View 3 RepliesI've developed a database application in VB.Net 2010 Express and published a ClickOnce deployment package, the only choice in the Express version. The installation is supposed to create a listing on the Start menu but this isn't happening. Also, I'm using a specialized Hebrew font in the application that is not carrying over to the installation. what I'm doing wrong or if the ClickOnce publishing method is not capable of working in this way?

Using Visual Basic in Visual Studio 2008. I have students zip the folder for a vb project and send it to me. Then I unzip and add it to a project of mine. It will not open any of their work as the path has changed. I can't even see the code. If they send me the code only then I have to recreate the forms. They also have problems saving it on a jump drive, then moving that jump drive to a different computer as the drive letter changes. I have looked for help and it states to go to icons that I can't find in studio 2008. Using the open existing project gives the same result as the path has changed. Is it impossible to give someone else an existing project? I have gone in the import/export options but have run out of guesses.

I would like your opinion of 2010. My project isn't especially fancy. But an automatic adjustment for monitor size would be useful.
Does 2010 replace the existing VB Express? Do I have to convert my existing projects? I had problems with this going from 2005 to 2008.
I was at a class recently, and the instructor started a new Visual Studio 2008 project using a "COM project" template. Now that I'm back, I tried finding that template in my installation of VS2008 with no luck. Does anybody know where I can find that template, or failing that, what it might be doing to achieve its effect?
View 2 RepliesI was a COBOL programmer agout 15 years ago and I am now just getting into Visual Basic. The owner of a local business has asked me to write a program to perform what I think is a simple task. In the past the business would process payroll checks and print them in-house. Now they are using direct deposit. Checks are no longer printed. The check stub though is printed. This stub is then carried to each of 10 locations across West Tennessee and distributed to the employees.
This is my task: capture the stubs to a file (PDF, XPS) and email it to each employee. This way the employee will recieve the stub on the same day the deposit is made. I can capture the output file (the stubs) and save it as a PDF file or a XPS file. I can send an email from within a program. What I don't know how to do is open the PDF or XPS file, read the email address and insert the page into the email body.

View 3 RepliesI am basically an EAI consultant and for my work I took an initiative to develop a windows based GUI whose functionality would be to simply execute a couple of Oracle SELECT queries and display the results in the form. I took the help of my friend who is a VB.NET expert and he was kind enough to develop the complete code for me within a day (He isn't available now). The application did work fine and we tried to package into an MSI using the Deployment & Packaging Project option. Now when I installed the application on a different computer, it throws OraOps10.dll not found ! I also tried the Setup Wizard from the same Deployment & Packaging Project option but it results in the same error.
Please note the following:
-> We used .NET 1.1 and the backend database is Oracle 10g.
-> We downloaded the Oracle Data Access components for .NET from Oracle's website. The DLL file in the error message actually came with this installation.
When I am packaging the solution, I expected all the dependencies including this OraOps10.dll should have also been packaged. What could go wrong here? I don't think I can request my customer to install the Oracle Data Access components for .NET, in this case we don't even need a packaging feature. I would be grateful to you guys if this silly issue is fixed very soon.

View 3 RepliesI am hoping that somebody here is familiar with the book, "Doing Objects with Visual Basic 2005" so this question makes more sense but I will try and ask it in a way that makes knowledge of the book irrelevant.The book contains a sample project that I am trying to use as a "framework" for all my new projects. The project shows you how to read and edit objects to and from a database and that part works great. The author then leaves the new and deletes up to the reader to do, which is a good way to learn. However I am having trouble with the it. My problem is that I am having trouble implementing my own ProcessNew InterfaceI think this is how it should be:
