I'm connecting to my mysql server using ODBC in vb.net, the database is shared throughout the company because it is used in an accounting program (simply accounting), each user has their own account user/pass to login to the database. I have developped a program that uses the accounting database and combines it with other information, my problem is that at least once a day I get this error when I run my program: "(10061) ERROR [HY000] [MySQL][ODBC 3.51 Driver]Can't connect to MySQL server on"and the error persists for at least 4 hours, for some reason it starts to work again later on in the day.

View 2 RepliesI recently got a new computer with vista. I was working on a Visual Basic project on my old computer, which had xp, and transferred that project to my new computer. A lot of the time, however, when I try to work on my project on my new computer, an error message pops up and says Visual Basic is not responding and then Visual Basic shuts down. Sometimes if I restart Visual Basic it works ok, but most of the time, the same error message occurs. This doesn't allow me to work on my project when I want to. I have checked to see that my Visual Basic is all up to date and it is. Does this have to do with Vista?

View 2 RepliesI am currently rewriting an Access application to VB. The database was already MySQL 5 with the Access application - solely used for the forms and reports. In access the MySQL database is accessed though ODBC, in VB via a .NET connector.
The problem is the following:
In the MySQL DB I have a trigger to create a UUID (or a GUID if you prefer) as a "Before Insert" trigger.With Access, the record creation works fine, and the UUID is created flawlessly.With VB, the record creation is stopped by VB when trying to insert/save the record - saying the DB requires the field UUID not to be null. Although this is right (it is mandatory in the record creation in the DB), it obviously does not take into account the MySQL trigger (and how could it?).How do you get rid of the validation for this field?

So I am able to create a mysql connection. I have been watching tutorials and they tell me to go Project -> Add Reference and click on MySQL.data
However this does not show up anywhere. ( I have installed the Driver though :S)

I've been hired at a company to fix some bugs and make some improvements to their in house programs. The program I am currently working has been written in Visual Studio 2005, in Visual Basic specifically. The program is used to connect to a database on a server and provide various information. However, I have run into a snag where the program will refuse to connect to the database when it using a user account and password that has been set up on the database. When I look at the logs i see it is giving the error as stated above, however, I have double and triple checked the password both on the database and the one hardcoded into the program and they are identical yet it still logs that there is a password mismatch. Has anyone run into this problem or figured out a solution towards fixing it, I will be much obliged.
View 6 RepliesI'm developing a small project (just for learning, I'm not a pro) which involves creating software which could be used by a store owner for invoice generation. It involves storing all the store's products in a MySQL 5.5 database. Visual Studio 2008 is used for front end (Project was started in VS2005, later converted). MySQL ODBC Driver 5.1 is used for connection purposes. I'm still a student and haven't been able to learn .NET yet. So, I used the following link to connect the Database and the interface. I'm able to obtain all the data from the database like 'Product Name', 'Price' etc on the VB's forms through labels.
Now, for the purpose of invoice generation, the data in the labels i.e, 'Product Name' and 'Price' should be added to another table named 'Cart' whenever a button named 'Add to Cart' is pressed. How can I implement it? I mean, could anyone provide me with a code snippet that fetches the data being displayed in the labels and adds it to another table through 'INSERT' statement? P.S Basically what I need is a code snippet in VB that lets me execute an SQL query(any one like INSERT or SELECT or UPDATE) when a button is pressed in a form.

I've downloaded the ODBC driver and the MySQL driver and installed them on my system (Win XP SP3). However, the only data sources that are showing up when I try to add a data connection are Access & 2 SQL Server objects. Is there something else that needs to be setup in order for Visual Studio to allow additional data sources? I'm currently running VS 2010 Express.

I even loaded the component checker 2.0 as suggest via microsoft website to look up the Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC). (see Article ID: 304230 and 301202 on [URL]..It says MDAC 2.8 SP1 ON WINDOWS XP SP2. I am not sure what this MDAC does for me, but I looked at it anyways.
