WinForms - Type Expected On New Point?
Jul 16, 2009For this line:
Private _allowedLocations As Point() = New () {New Point(50, 50), New Point(500, 500), New Point(700, 100)
I am getting the error "type expected for 'new ()'.
For this line:

I am getting the error "type expected for 'new ()'.
How do I allow only a decimal point after an input of three digits in a textbox in VB.NET?
Let's say I inputed "123" after that I can only put a decimal else it wont allow any other input. So the result would be "123."
Dim KeyAscii As Integer
KeyAscii = Asc(myE.KeyChar)
Select Case KeyAscii

I have a class A that has a SectList (which inherits from ArrayList) of objects of class B.I make class A <Serializable()>, as well as SectList and B.objects of class B are added to the SectList as the program runs.Upon serialization, I get the message that B is unexpected and that I should use XMLInclude to specify classes that are not known statically. How and where exactly should I use XMLInclude ?What is XMLInclude's parameter ? <XmlInclude(GetType(B))> ?Where is a good and solid explanation of serialization in VB,, where these phenomenae are well explained ?

Is there such a thing as a type similar to a point, but contains a pair of decimals, or a pair of doubles, rather than integers? I searched the forums and google with no luck. I can't believe this has never come up before, I must have been using the wrong search terms.
View 4 RepliesI hve been working with points a lot recently, and I have been wondering if there is a way to set a point without setting point.x and point.y separately. For example for (3, 5): Point1 = (3, 5) But that isn't right
View 4 RepliesI'm trying to work out how i can make my multithreaded app stop at a certain point and wait for the user to type something into a text box and click ok. It must then carry on and when a different thread gets to that point it stops again and waits for the user to input some text again.
View 1 RepliesI have a very small VS2008 Winforms project that will not start.When I attempt to start debugging the project, I get the message:'<form>' is a type in '<project>' and cannot be used in an expression.From the file .Designer.vb.The problem is that is indeed a form. If I create a new WinForm and set the startup object to the new form, I get the same message.When I attempt to check the "Enable application framework" checkbox in the Project properties, I get the message "Startup object must be a form when 'Enable application framework' is checked.I've tried creating a new project and moving all the code and designer objects to a new form file in the new project, and same result.Other projects on the same computer run fine.

I work with C# 99% of the time. However, I'm having to update some legacy VB.Net code and encountering an issue with VB.Net code syntax. The error that I get is "ByRef" is underlined and "Expected Expression" tag shows up when you hover over "ByRef". The "FooDetail.Load" function is written in C# and expects a List object passed as reference. Don't have any trouble using the same function in other C# classes. Can someone indicate what is wrong with below VB.Net code.
Dim FooDetail As New clsFooDetail()
FooDetail.FooID = FooID
Dim lstFooDetail As New List(Of clsFooDetail)
FooDetail.Load(ConnectionString, "Stored Procedure", ByRef lstFooDetail as System.Collection.List(Of(clsFooDetail))
I have a Diagonal line drawn on a picture box on my forum and i need to know if the user has clicked the line I have the Start point and End Point of the Line and the mouse x,y location So i basically need to find out if the x,y of the mouse is on the line.
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to extract a piece of text from within the string, defining both a starting point and an ending point. For instance, say I want to search for the text found between "That is a " and " car" in the string "That is a red car", so it would return "red".I know you can use .SelectionStart and SelectionLength, but the length of the word can change, so the selection length can vary. What I want is to establish a specific starting point and a specific ending point from which to extract the text from the string.

I'm trying to calculate the direction between two points on a two-dimensional grid. Actually I want to determine if that vector is within a range of two values. Suppose the grid's origin is 0,0 at the upper left corner, and 0 degrees represents north. I have a point A on that grid. I want to know if a line from point A to point B on the grid is within a range of directions between 111.8 degrees (a little south of east) and 158.2 (a little east of south). Those are approximations; the 111.8 is 90 degrees plus the arctangent of 2/5, and 158.2 is 180 minus that value. I worked out a series of calculations worthy of a medieval astronomer, but I suspect there is a simpler way. I'm going to have to do this for a variety of other vectors, and I'd like to generalize

View 1 RepliesI need to move an ellipse from a known point on the screen to another known point on the screen.
I've tried using For.....Loops with less than desired results.
I can't remember everything I've tried, a lot of trial and error has been layed to waste. Lol
I've ended up with this code after putting together what I've tried, what I've learned elsewhere, and a couple of posts I've read on here.
All I want to do is move the ellipse from one point to the other along a straight line that forms the angle between the two points (X1,Y1) and (X2,Y2), make it grow from 2 pixels at it's start, to about 80 pixels by the time it reaches half way, then shrink from 80 pixels back down to 2 pixels by the time it reaches the point (X2,Y2).
Easier said than done.
Here's what I have at the present.....
Dim W As Integer
Dim H As Integer
Dim Num As Integer

can i calculate the width of that triangle at 1/3 of the distance from the point + 2/3 of the distance from the point?

Is it possible to set a project default for VB.NET winforms projects so that the default Modifier for controls added to winforms is Private (not Friend)?I know there's a "modifiers" property in the properties window so I can set it for each individual control however I would like to change the project so from now on myself and other developers have to specifically decide to change from friend to private. (Which I would strongly discourage them from doing).I believe there is no way of doing this, but on another forum a while ago someone mentioned it would be possible with an add-in (but didn't name the add-in or where to get it).
