I have in my code the CBN_DROPDOWN command that is sent using a Windows Message, but I want to be able to make the Combo Box List Drop Up as well. Does anyone know if this is possible or how I can do it?

i have a login form that contains a combo box and a text box and a button. the items of the como box are from the databse while the person selected can only log into the system if the password he enters on the textbox matches the password details in the database.(of the name selected)
my problem is, the second tab contains a couple of textboxes and combo boxes that need to be filled in. but i want the first combo box in the second tab to have drop down value of the name of the person that has logged in to fill in the form.
the person login in the first tab, his name should appera on the combo box in the second tab
I have a problem with Combo Boxes. When one uses the mouse to open the drop down menu, the text appears to be missing, but when you click on a entry, the text appears in the box at the top of the combo box (the thumb?). Likewise, when the cursor keys are used to scroll through the options, the text appears in the thumb.

What I want to do, is populate a drop-down list or a combobox (on program load) with data from a dictionary. I'm used to php, so I tried a for each dictionary.items as newitem combobox.items.add(newitem) but I can't get it working. Can someone give me an example of this? And what if i wanted only the key to show in the drop-down, and the corresponding value shown on a label besides it when I make a selection?

View 3 RepliesI have a modal form with a single instance of the built-in .NET 2.0 tab control. The tab control has several pages, and on one of them is a combo box that isn't populated until the user activates it for the first time. When that happens, I handle the DropDown event and run a process that takes several seconds, then I add the items returned by that process to the combo box.It works fine, except right after the list portion of the combo box is dropped down, it immediately closes as if some other control took the focus. I've narrowed it down to the fact that there is a tab control on the form, and the process that retrieves items for the combo box takes more than 4 seconds. If I create a completely blank form with just the combo box, I don't see this behavior.
Needless to say, this is strange beyond belief. Any idea why the tab control would interfere with the control that currently has focus?

I've created a form to handle "frequently asked questions". In the form I have five Drop-Down Combo Boxes and I want the user to be able to select one of the questions listed in the drop down boxes and have it return a "message box" with the answer to the question. Naturally I'll have different "answers" for each question, but my initial efforts have me getting my message box as soon as I click on the drop-down arrow itself, and I don't want that triggered until I click on the specific question.

I have a combo box in VB ExpEd2010 that I want to allow the user to only select from the drop down list. However, I want to be able to set the value in the combo box to something that is not in the list. So the drop down list will have values 1, 2, 3 but I want to be able to write to the same combo box a value of 2.4, 1.2, etc.

If focus is lost by pressing the Return key on a form which has AcceptButton set, then after handling the Validating event and cancelling the validation,the ComboBox will not drop down any more. The method I'm using above is not working. When I select a new item from the drop down list, it works as expected except the message "Loading..." is not showing at all.

That something I want to be displayed in a tooltip when the mouse hovers on the combo box. Until now everything has gone fine. What I want now is to see the tooltip when the mouse rolls over the list of the dop down combo. How can I do that? Until now the internet didn't give me something to work on it. View 2 RepliesThe following website appears to show you you might do Drag/Drop that works like explorer does but I don't know what the code would be in VB, what exactly i'd need or anything else. It's a quite large code base just to make it so you get the same effect as explorer even though it seems to be API's or .dll's that should handle most of the work.
If the API's & .dll's available for this don't handle most of it I don't see why not because well if your meant to get the same effect why is it going to be handled mostly by code? I would think it would be as easy as passing an image or file/folder as string & then there the image is & possibly the functions you want to be allowed or text to be displayed for the drag action & then a little more to determine where your trying to drag to so what the text should be changing to.
Anyways heres the website which has a lot of the information/code in non-vb language, even when translated to VB using online tools I couldn't figure out what did what or what pieces I needed to get a basic drag action to work that has said visual information like explorer does.[URL]..
I have been developing an app in VB.NET which requires a control object (for example, a ListViewItem) to be dragged out of the form, and to a user-specified location (for example, on the desktop, or in a folder). However, The file that is intended to be 'copied', as the 'ListViewItem' represents, does not yet exist. It needs to be downloaded and then placed in the user specified location. Am I able to get the path/location of the destination drop? I would then proceed to download the file, and then place it where the use specified.
I have looked at other questions regarding a similar issue, which details the dragging operation outside the form, its just there doesn't appear to be a way to determine where that short cut went or how to flag the destination location. Essentially, I am thinking that it may require some sort of 'dynamic link' or 'virtual file' as I've seen mentioned elsewhere. Then, after the drop operation, somehow accessing this 'link' from my application, proceed to download the file and place it in the final drop destination.

In Windows 7 (I'm using the 64 bit professional edition) I am unable to drag and drop files. I know the code works as I've been using the application on a 32 bit XP for ages.I've set the allowdrop property for both the main form and the status strip.[code]I've knocked the UAC settings down a notch and this doesn't do anything either. Interestingly, it's not even showing any of the dragdrop effects when dragging files or outlook emails into them.

Google Chrome has a handy feature where I can click a download link and drag it into a Windows Explorer window, and then drop. After dropping, Chrome then downloads the file and it appears where I dropped it.
I would like to be able to drop from Google Chrome into my application, but it seems it isn't so simple. I have a DataGridView called gridFiles, and the following code:

EDIT: So it seems that with regular URLs, I do get the proper dragged-in UniformResourceLocator format. The behavior I am seeing occurs with the download links in Gmail. It probably happens elsewhere, but I am not sure. When a gmail attachment is dragged from Gmail into my application, I get a FileDrop.
Doing some more digging, it seems that Gmail is using the download_url attribute of the anchor tag. I have never heard of this before. Perhaps this is just an extra property they have added?
In any case, since my application will primarily be used with e-mail attachments, I need a way for the phantom FileDrop to work, as stated above. I am unable to use Spy++. It doesn't seem to show any messages when drops occur.

I have a Main form (a window form) in VB.NET which has a Combo Box to display a list of countries. A sub form activated from a "Button" on the Main form allows users to add Countries to their list. But After Adding a new entry the Combo Box on the Main form does not show the update (while it is still open). I have to exit the main form and relaunch it to see the update.
The populate function in shown below. I call this method after adding new countries but still; not good. I have used Invalidate function of combo box but of no use as well.

I'm using windows form (vb2010) for data entry.. so now I want to add a combo box into my windows form using sql code because all my connection & Inserting records in SQL command. And other important matter is the combo box should connect to my SQL Server database Table.

Anyone know why in Windows vista if i have a comboBox in in my program it looks differant in vista. AKA when i drop the combo box in windows xp it has a scroll bar to the side, but if i drop it in vista it just drops the entire length (how many rows i have put in the box) This could get very anoying if i had lots of items.
