Windows Service Detecting User Log Off Event?
Aug 15, 2011Recently while I was playing with VS 2008(VB), I have created an application for folder sync purpose... which is working fine. Then, I have created a windows service that does the same thing and it is also working fine(from application perspective). But, I have been trying to add some additional functionality to that new service. It keeps on running as long as System is ON.
But I would like to change the functionality to... as soon as user logs off Service should STOP, and should START when user logs into that PC. I tried to find some useful info online(related to my task) and all I could come up with was to add OnSessionChange(...) method to the service. But for some reason it is not working out for me(when I've logged off or other system events such as 'system lock').

VS 2008 Windows Service Event Log In The OnStart Event
Aug 26, 2010I have created a simple framework for a Windows service in VB.NET Express 2008. It enables a timer which then writes to the event log every 6 seconds until the service is stopped. This works fine. I adapted that framework into something further. It is using Windows sockets. Well, I haven't finished that part yet and I just want it to write to the event log successfully but I can't even get it to do that now. I am trying to write an event in the OnStart event. The service is being started successfully, according to the standard event log, but my custom events are not getting there. I don't understand why as I am using the same code for that as I was before.

Windows Service Interactions - How To Access Event Log
Feb 6, 2011I'm new to write windows services and I was searching around collecting necessery info and howtos. What I'm missing is the interaction between my webapp and the service. The servicecontroller sending messages to the service and gives me the main status of the service. Is there a way to get custom messages, set custom properties and get properties? If there are not, should I use a file for both the service and the web app where both can read and write on, like a settings file in xml or are there better methods? Is there a way to get the messages in the corresponding eventlog, how do I access them?

Jul 14, 2011i have a Windows service that is hosting a WCF service through net.tcp and this is working great. I have also created a WCF service application. I am trying to add the net.tcp service reference to the service application. Then I add it to the GAC that goes ok but if I try to RegAsm the WCF service application to allow it to be called from Server.CreateObject I get the error:

Can you have multiple instances of the same Service class (that bind to different addresses or ports), like this?

Or will that cause problems? Should we use two different classes instead?
C# - Detecting The Form Move Event From Within A Child Control?
Jul 8, 2010I am creating a user control where when a user clicks a button a popup window will show up with information. The popup window is driven by a toolStripDropDown so when it shows up it does 2 things
Does not move the other controls on the form around but displays over them That it can show the details outside the bounds of the user control itself without having to reserve the space ahead of time

Now my issue is as the form moves or resizes the Tooldropdown does not move relative. I understand that. When I try to capture the move event of the user control that event does not fire when the entire form moves. There has to be something I can capture because the controls in the container of the form move relative, what drives that? I tried wndproc but nothing fires during form move unless the form is repainted.
Detecting When An External Program Ends To Start A New Event?
Apr 17, 2009I need to be able to detect when an external program closes so that I can start another event within VB 2005. I have tried to do this by monitoring the processes on my computer. The problem is that this programs comes up as some weird sub-process. It has an Image Name, which is indented from the other Image Names, and it shows that the User Name is the Administrator. This is the only information you can get from the Processes tab. There is a Task Name under the Applications tab, however. I was wondering if there was some code to monitor the Applications tab instead of the Processes or if there is yet another way to do this.

Mar 3, 2009We have a server with multiple services written in .Net 1.1 and 3.5 running on a Win 2003 server. Everything runs fine, but when we stop a certain service, an unrelated service stops. I have checked and neither has any dependencies. The service we stop is in 3.5, and the unrelated service that incorrectly stops is in 1.1. We get no error messages, nor event log errors, so we are baffled.Does anyone have an idea as to what may be causing this?

Mar 10, 2009I've created a windows service and started a deployment project for it. I have the project installer class in the service project and I've added the "Standard output etc.." from the service project as custom actions for the Deployment Project. When I attempt to install it, I get the error "Specified service already exists", which shouldn't happen (even though the service does exist) because the installer should be removing the old service and installing the new one.
I've checked that the versions are different, and that the Product Code is also different, also RemovePreviousVersions is set to true. VS 2010 Windows API For Detecting A Mouse Click Anywhere Or On A Specific Program
Jan 4, 2011I need to create a program that can run code each time the user clicks, I can't use windows forums since its on another program. If the code can detect global mouse clicks(system wide) or only on one program it's fine.
I've done some digging and it looks like windows API can solve my problem but i really suck at using windows API and it looks like SetWindowsHookEx() can solve my problem but i don't know how to use it correctly. This is the code from Pinvoke that I modified to hopefully work for a mouse click. i'm having trouble getting this to work.

Jan 31, 2009I'm writing a windows service (MacTimeFix.exe) to fix the Windows time on a Macintosh (it's like this: i live in Moscow (GMT+03:00), and Mac OS thinks that the system time is GMT+00:00 and adds 03:00 to it< and Windows thinks that system time is the local time).I need to execute my code when my VB app is closed. (it happens with the shutdown of Windows) The form is invisible (hidden), and the user mustn't click anything except windws shutdown button. It is a service. When i write a Form1_FormClosing sub, it works only on Alt+F4 or CloseButton and doesn't work when the app is stopped from Windows Task Manager or whatever also.I need a way to execute sub when app is closed with taskkill (without /force) or a way to execute a several app on Winshutdown.
