VS 2010 How To Decompress A Zlib-compressed File

Mar 24, 2012

I would like to decompress/compress text files in zlib format.

Here's what I tried:

- Downloaded zlibwipa.dll from [URL] and tried to add a reference to it but got an error saying it is an invalid assembly.

- Downloaded DotZLib from [URL] but can't get it to work, error message: Unable to load DLL 'zlib.DLL': The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E)

- Looked at this [URL] but couldn't do much with it

This files are textfiles created from flash with ActionScript 3.0, but compressed, using the ByteArray class's compress() method. I know Flash uses zlib algorithm for this, and I would like to open and use this file from vb.net.

I am using something like :

FileOpen(1, OpenMapDialog.FileName, OpenMode.Binary, OpenAccess.ReadWrite)
Dim a() As Byte = {}
FileGet(1, a)

[Code]....

How do I decompress a zlib compressed file with byte arrays?

.net - Code To Install Files To The GAC Doesn't Seem To Work

Mar 22, 2011

Basically we ran into where, for whatever reason, we had to put some 3rd party dll in the GAC for it to work correctly. (The assemblies loaded, but had weird behavior and trouble finding types in the loaded assemblies. The app itself is a add in to another 3rd party program, so it must be something about how its being loaded.) So I tried to write some quick code to handle this without having to manually do this on each machine it was needed on. This is basically what the code boils down to:

Dim X As New System.EnterpriseServices.Internal.Publish
X.GacInstall(name)

Where name is the filename of the dll. This runs without error. It even add the assembly to the GAC. However, the application still experiences the same issue until you manually add the assembly in .Net Configuration window.

Forms In DLL Files. Form.Isdisposed Won't Work

Jun 8, 2010

I did a function to one of my projects to a DLL file, and when the user starts the function a icon for that function grows (to show that the function is open).When the user closes the function the icon should shrink back again. But i have some problem whit that.The problem is: when i open a other form, the icon shrinks even if i haven't closed the function.What make it strange is that i have 2 function like that, the first one is the one that is behaving like this and the second one works the same way, but the second icon do not shrink when i open a new form. The second icon only shrinks when i close that function.

Here is the code for the opening of the first function:

Private Sub MedlemskortToolStripMenuItem_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MedlemskortToolStripMenuItem.Click
frmm = New Medlemdskort.Form1

Get A Progress Bar To Work While It Copies All Files In A Folder To Another?

May 7, 2012

I'm trying to get a progress bar to work while it copies all files in a folder to another. I've gotten the progress bar to show and display the progress, but during the copying process the app stops displaying anything if I click away and won't display anything until it finishes copying everything. It just freezes with a ghost image in the form while it's copying. How do I prevent the app from freezing during the copying process? I can't even minimize it or move the window around. I hope I made sense. Here's my code.

Dim Files = My.Computer.FileSystem.GetFiles(.SelectedPath, FileIO.SearchOption.SearchTopLevelOnly, "*.*")

Playing AVI Files So That They Work On XP, Vista And Win7

Jun 23, 2010

We have code in our former VB6 application, that ported fine to VB.NET, that plays a simple AVI file of the typical "flying folders" and "spinning maginfying glass" AVI. Under Windows XP, our application ran fine and everything was good.

Then we had customers start using Vista and Win7 and this stuff crashes. We were using the MS Common Controls (SP4) and then (SP6) - utilizing the Animation player. Now - these dont work and we get nasty errors.

I searched Microsoft and the web to answer the "what now?" question and though there are numerous suggestions, none of them work. We cant use Media Player because we dont want any menu - just the graphic. We dont know why, with the cool tools given in .NET, there is no animation player (seems a huge oversight...) But we need to get "unstuck" on this one, and we need that fast...

So, How does on play a simple AVI file using VB.NET code? What DLL or OCX does Microsoft recommend and is there a place we can find some sample code for it?

PerformClick() Doesn't Work - How To Make It Work

Feb 2, 2011

I have an application that requires data be entered, and after entering, a button is clicked to process that data. Clicking the button works just as it should--the data is processed properly. In constructing a test module, I provide a set of data values, followed by:

btnWhatever.PerformClick()

Nothing happens. I have used this syntax for years, and it has always worked flawlessly. I have triple checked everything else and isolated the problem to the failure of the PerformClick(). The PerformClick() is in a test subroutine that does nothing but fill textboxes and labels with default data, then calls the PerformClick() on the button to begin processing. Again, the button works fine, the data is entered as it should be, but the PerformClick() does not fire the click event.
