Wrinting Procedure Elsewhere Than Form.vb?
Dec 12, 2011
Is it possible to write the procedure (Private Sub hello() for ex.) in somewhere else, like in another file, and call it like we usually do?
I just don't want my main Form.vb to be filled with lots of codes, I want it to call procedures and run them

In VB.NET I've got two forms, on first one I have button, on second - two textboxes and "OK" button. I want to run procedure (Sub) on first form, then stop in the middle of it and wait for input on the second form. After that i want to process the data received from second form.
It looks something like this:
Public Class Form1
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
'Open form2 for input
[CODE]...
The question is how to call the Form2 so that procedure is stoped till the second form is closed?

The code below is what I have in one form. Login_prompt is the name of the other form.In this code snippet I am displaying another form that prompts the user for a username and password.I then want to open the website and auto populate the fields. The populating is not the problem.I cannot seem to call on the other form's sub procedure correctly.

There are 2 forms open for the user in a school attendance program. The 1st. form is called FormBrowseClasses and the other form is called FormBrowseGrades. On the 2nd form is a procedure called PopulateTheDataGridWithData. That procedure loads data into a DataGrid. We would like to call PopulateTheDataGridWithData from within FormBrowseGrades so the data in the DataGrid will be refreshed.
We already tried:
' Refresh DataGrid data on FormBrowseClasses
'-------------------------------------------
objFormBrowseClasses.PopulateTheDataGridWithData()
but this only runs on a new instance of the form, not the currently open form. how to set this up correctly?

I try to run a custom sub procedure from the form load event. It keeps crashing. I believe it is because all of the controls are not loaded and the sub procedure makes use of some controls. How can I make sure everything is loaded before the sub procedure is run?

The instructions are as follows:
1. Write a Visual Basic Console Application.Inside the main procedure call a function procedure to input and return a value for a double variable called x, the width of a right triangle.Inside the main procedure call the same function procedure a second time to get a value for a double variable called y, the height of a right triangle.
2. From the main procedure call a function procedure which calculates and returns a value for the hypotenuse equal to the square root of (x squared + y squared). You will have to pass the values of x and y to this function procedure. The procedure should calculate and return a double type value. The value that is returned by this function procedure should be equal to the square root of (x squared + y squared).
3. Also from the main procedure call a sub procedure to display the values of x, y, and the hypotenuse.

In a tic tac toe game I am making there are two blocks of code that are identical except that they access different arrays:[code]Arrays plyrTaken and plyrPairs are used in the first block and cmptrTaken and cmptrPairs are used in the second. Is it possible to wrap these blocks into one Sub Procedure passing the different arrays when the procedure is called?

I am in need of being able to show a user the contents of a Oracle stored procedure. I have no idea of how to go about actually getting and then displaying the code contained in a stored procedure. Does anyone know of a way? I know how to call and execute a stored procedure but is about it. I am developing using VB.NET 2010 with Oracle 10G as my back end.

My main form is a tabbed control with 2 tabs. The first tab is has two listview controls which display information about the current machine. The second tab contains a treeview control and two listview controls. This tab recreates the device manager in windows. I created a Machine class to gather the information about the machine that I want to display to the user. When I call the Display() Method from my form's load event everything appears to be fine the first tab's information is displayed in the listview controls.
Here's the kicker, when I click to the device manager tab there's nothing there. The LoadTree() procedure never fires. This code works, I've seen my device tree display a thousand times in the past. When I comment out the call to Machine.Display() my device tree reappears no problem. The code compiles fine no errors. I know the problem has to be in my Machine class but I have no idea what could cause this kind of response. I've never seen a program compile clean and then refuse to fire a procedure call but not produce some kind of runtime error.

I have an ArrayList that is set to Friend. Once I click my button "abc" is added to the ArrayList and then the form MsgBoxes out the Count of 1 (Correct). When I use Threadpool to count the number of objects within the ArrayList it always returns 0.
Example:
Imports System.Threading
Public Class Form1
Friend Alphabet As New ArrayList
[code]....
I am obviously getting some sort of cross-thread issue here but have no idea how to correct this. I usually just setup single threads so this is my first time playing with ThreadPool & already lost at step 1!

I have a stored procedure to update a table, but needs a couple of values from another table.
the first two selects get the value from the table and then are used in the update statement.
The select statments:
Select @iStatusDropDownValueID = iDropDownValueID
From DropDownValue
Inner Join DropDownValueType On DropDownValue.iDropDownValueTypeID =
[Code].....
First, the values that are retrieved by the first two select statements are always the same. So they could be passed in by the code itself. I don't know that this will speed things up at all, just make the entire stored procedure better and easier to read.
Second, if the "Value Name" should change this store procedure will break (which is possible, but not often).
I am looking for any insight into the Best Practices for this situation.

OK. So I have a class-level array:
Dim terrain()() As Double and I want to add the bounds in a procedure:
Dim terrain()() As Double = New Double(divisions + 1)() {}I can't add the bound for the seconds dimension.
Then I want to assign a value to any element of the array inside the procedure.
terrain(0)(0) = 0.5 This gives the error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object You can see my problem. What solution can there be to this problem that involves one array.
