Write Input Values To A File?

I have several textboxes and one combobox in which I would like them to have them placed in a file, but I have run into several problems while doing it. I am taking a beginning course and the book doesn't seem to explain things to well.
1. How can I let the user enter a file name after the data and button has been clicked
2.How do get I get a information from the combobox to grab the text within the selected item to the file
3.How to I write the entered text value to the file like using the notepad file?[code]..

I'm new to VB.net and have only a few projects under my belt. This one has me stumped!! I need to open a file and search its contents hex byte by byte. (Similar to Hex editor). On finding a particular value I need to replace it with a set hex value then write and close the file. So far I have only managed to read / write the ascii equivilant.

I've been asked to re-write an application that was written sometime ago by another programmer. This application reads data from a database table, massages it, and then writes out the results to a text file that is later shipped off to another company. When I run my new application, it generates a file that, according to the byte count, is twice the size of the file output from the old application. However, to look at the two files with note-pad they look identical. I found that by using 'Ultra-edit' that the new records have a low-value byte hex '00' between each real character.

Textbox2 to write its value to a file named C:VALUE2.txt
Any text that is already in the text file MUST be over written.

I need to write values, mostly doubles into a text file in VB.NET. I ported the code from VB6, but the performance of the VB6 write#fileID, vars) in VB.NET, is very bad, it introduces a delay of about one hour. I have tried out the streamwrite, and its performance is good; it's actually faster than VB6 write.
I am using the write(string) method for the streamwriter, and I am concatenating the values using variable names as follows: streamwriter.write(var1 &","& var2 &","&....&","& var n &","). This version of write enables me to have more than one variable written to file per statement. The problem that I have is that the content of the file is incorrect, unlike the one produced by the slow VB6 write in VB.NET.
Is there a better way of achieving this requirement; preferably using the streamwriter? I cannot use the streamwriter.write(double), becuase I'll have to use multiple lines as I am writing about 800 vars in convergence test loops resulting in a total of just over 2 million writes.

Input a range of numbers and sort them into 6 equal amounts and then having the program tell you which amount the number was put into?
I.e
Input:
1200, 2400, 600, 600, 300, 300, 1200, 1200
Sorted into:
Group A: 2400 = 2400
Group B: 1200 + 1200 = 2400
Group C: 600 + 600 + 300 + 300 + 1200 = 2400

My objective is to, instead of entering in the data manually into the text boxes, I want to read in a textfile. The Calculate button will contain the code to read in the file and assign it to the appropriate textboxes. Save the separate file in the \bin\Debug folder.
The text file just needs to have 3 integers on 3 separate lines.The code I posted works without and errors, but.I am having some trouble integrating the Stream Reader.

I am trying to write a program that allows user input information and plot a bifurcation diagram that looks like this:I haven't program in 2 years:sick: so I am all rusty and such. Here is what I have got so far and more information about what I am doing.
Bifurcation:
f(x) = kx(1-x)
and k = xL + i * (xR-xL) / 500

I need to write a program using a For Next loop to accept a word as input and determine if its letters are in alphabetical order.

I don't like validating through the TextChanged event either as I believe that to be the cause of some issues. Doesn't the Textchanged event validate on each time a letter is typed?

I have Database Form, First Time i run my software, I have to give Server Name, Window or SQL Authentication mode, UserName and password. Next Time I run the software, given data's like Server name, username, password, window or sql authentication should appear in the form. Before I used VB6, I used the ini file for getting the username, password and servername.

How do i get data from a database and put it in to multiple text boxes?Basically i have abilling form with; name, address, etc.But i have a 'retrieve' function underneath which allows a name and post code to be entered and then the information above is automatically filled in if the name and post code exists. I have a form that requires input from a user that will update a database table. So they are offered input boxes. What the input box will do is ask the user to enter a date, what that will then do is to mark a field marked 'code' in my sql table as "holiday" for that entire day.

I've been trolling for a long time now and have decided to register as I finally have some time to start jumping into VB. The last time I coded VB, the current version was VB 4. I've been out of programming for a good while now and considered myself a beginner (tutorial example coder haha).
My question is: Where is a good place to start learning VB.NET?
I know it's an often asked and answered question - but let me give you a bit more information so more specialized replies might be given.
I'm in INFOSEC/COMSEC and would like to (eventually) develop a program that contains a DB of information that is read by the application and saves input information into a DB (encrypted) as well. The program will be a 800-53 C&A control assessment program; used for tracking system compliance for federal information systems. I would like to be able to develop such a tool to make my life easier at work instead of using Excel spreadsheets to track everything.
I would like to learn:
- Input / Output methods and validation (for secure coding)
- Read/Write DB Encryption (RSA or other 128-bit) for user input information
- Ability to generate PDF reports from the primary keys and data sets from the above DB
My goal is to create a program that allows a user to install the program, setup a 'master' account that a serial/key has been generated for - that master account is then allowed to create new projects (progress saved in DB). A project asks the user certain questions pertaining to information systems and takes the input and saves it into the DB (encrypted). When the assessment is completed, I would like the program to be able to generate a PDF report from the DB (from a layout template I created).

I'm currently in VB class at my highschool and we just got chapter 6.1 to read on this online textbook that we follow. Anyway, we are doing loops now and the problem reads "Write a program to request positive numbers one at a time from the user in an input dialog box. The user should be instructed to enter -1 after all the positive numbers have been supplied. At that time, the program should display the sum of the numbers." So far I know this much

Now I know this isn't right But I can't find out how I'd pull out the numbers the user entered to get the sum of them and not include -1 because as it stands, when I hit ENTER with -1 the label just shows -1.

I have to scan through documents. Excell, Word, txt, ect looking for company names that match a pre-difined list of companies.I then email the companies some specifics in regards to that doc.The problem I have been having recently is that the list of companies keeps growing and I am starting to miss some more than I used to.What I would like to build is a tiny app that has 2 Text boxes.1 on the left for input (where I would copy/paste) the document text I receive.and one on the right for the output where it will highlight any line that contains the name of any of the pre-defined companies.
I started toying with the idea and so far I have form with a SplitContainer. Within that SplitContainer each side has a TextBox... Below the Textbox on the left hand side splitcontainer I have a submit button with no actions currently assigned to it.
