I am working on a media player, and I would like to setup a local playlist feature. I am using a single ListBox and its "Display-" and "Value-Member" properties. I pretty much understood how to write text to a file, but I cannot grasp how to READ the information. After I read the information, I would like to add each seperate line to a ListBox. Each line in the text file is a file path for a music file, as the file I wish to read information from is a "custom extension" playlist file. I know what to do after I get the file path, but I do not know how to get the file path from the playlist.
I'm using the SaveFileDialog to save listbox info into a text file. The files save fine, but when you go to save the file, if you hit the cancel button, it will overwrite the previous file you saved, because it's name was the same and it seems to save the previous file as the new name for your next file. Is there any way to catch if the user clicks cancel, and then exiting the sub if they did?

I have an issue with StreamWriter class. Basically, in an application running as a web service, I need to write info into a log file. When I send 2 web service calls simultaneously, the entries created in the log file are not correctly written. For example,
in call #1, ID 1 - xyz is to be written to the log file. In call #2, ID 2 - abc is to be written. When I viewed the log, it shows ID 1 - xyz & ID 1- abc. Looks like there's some memory data being shared and mixed together, even though it's totally 2 separate web service calls. From my understanding, each call (i.e. each will be process under a different application instance) should have its own set of memory allocation for data processing... If I am to make this application as a Console Application, it looks like everything is processed correctly.
I'm trying to get this form to display in the listbox the address from the info from the textboxes and it works except one problem, it displays all on one line. Its seems as if it accepts the ","'s and " " for the address but ignores the vbCrLf line separator. What am I doing wrong: Here is the code for the class:

I am wriing a vb.net windows application to log and store information. then display it in a sortable multiple column listbox (I personally like FlexGrid by Component One). However... I am not sure how to go about storing the information. Should I go with a .sdf file database, registry, simply storing them in a file, or some other method?
What I need is to be able to:
read/write/delete from it
read possibly up to a 20mb file and sorting it without a lot of lag
be transported to multiple systems and maintain these writes (installed on many systems)
I know I could split up the reading/writing to anther thread. Even to other .DLL's and whatnot. But as for storing. Not sure what the best option is.
The problem is that it only adds to the text file it's suppose to read from, but instead of adding 4 strings into my listbox. Can someone figure out what's wrong with my code, and provide me the correct syntax for it. This is in a sub after click of a button in vb.2008.

Also creating a database.Example. The Database will contain a list of customers. I am doing an assignment for my intermediate programming class. It is due tonight at 730. Anyways, I am almost finished, but I have run into a snag. I have this "bank application" and we are storing the info in a text file. However, whenever there is a deposit or withdrawal, the "accounts.txt" file is to be updated. All of the new account info is being written to a "Temp.txt" file and eventually will be renamed to the new "Accounts.txt" file. The problem I'm having is that it isn't writing non-updated account info to the temp file and I don't know how to make it do that while keeping the accounts in order and not rewriting the same account info more than once.

I'm writing a program in VB.Net and loading the info into a SQL database. Debugging it works fine on my machine that I am programming it on, it connects to the database and runs through all the info perfectly. However trying to get it to run on another machine it will not connect to the database. I realize the reason for this is the connection string, it's looking specifically at the file directory for the database. How do I change this so that it will function on any machine. The program is only intended to run on one machine at a time and not over the internet.

The reason this jumps around is that this comes from a file that is edited by other modders when they create a ship for a game that I'm modding.My program is designed to allow the user to visually see a representation of how strong and well equiped a ship is and change the values of each line with a slider bar.I have all the slider bar and progress bar code worked out.

However, if there are only 12 lines in the text file when I click a button to update and apply the new information i get an error because the file is already open. I need to figure out how to make sure its closed before WriteAllLines kicks in.

like 1/1/09, John Smith, (555) 555-5555, 101 S 1st Street and has numerous rows of info like this
so what I want it to do is just write this info to 4 different textboxes
like txtdate would just have all the dates of employees listed in rows or multilines
then another text box for names and so on.. Right now I just have it all being written to one text box.

C:Path2file2.txt
C:Path3file3.txt (varies depending on what the user selects)
I need to be able to grab each path seperately without having to get the user to select a particular item so i can do a batch of all the paths selected.
