XML Sorting And Formatting Table By Description?
Jun 1, 2009
I have a program that loads this XML in.
XML
<menu>
<game name="16-9 Back to the Future">
<description>Back to the Future (Data East 1990)</description>
<manufacturer>Data East</manufacturer>
<year>1990</year>
<type>SS</type>
[Code] .....
So I have other parts that can Add a new game, erase a game and so on. Now if you look at the XML how can I make it Alphabetically sort each table by the descriptions...?

I wrote a small program in VB.NET to export data from DataGrid to Excel and it works perfectly. My manager now wants me to display the data in a presentable format. How should I go about it. I recorded a macro but was unable to apply that in vb.net.

I was asked by an employer to sort a hash table. I always thought that the usage of a hash table was in a way non-sort friendly. Am I wrong in thinking this, and if not can you point me to a good VB.Net(Yes Kill me now, but it's an old system) method of sorting a hash table.

here is my current line of
Me.highlistpricetxt.Text = CStr(dtlist.Compute("Max([" & Form10.lp_txt.Text & "])", ""))
I thought this was the way to format the result but obviously not
Me.highlistpricetxt.Text = Format(CStr(dtlist.Compute("Max([" & Form10.lp_txt.Text & "])", "")), "#,###")
On another note I am not even sure why this is working since my column value is in string format, i thought it would need to be in some form of integer value to compute?

I am using Visual Web Developer 2008 Express and making a Webform. I want to arrange my labels and drop down listboxes in a table to keep them together on the form in a neatly manner. If I use the 'ToolBox' on the side and drag a HTML table to the workspace I get a nicely formatted table with 3 rows and 3 columns. And I can drag and drop my labels/listboxes into these columns and all is fine and good.
If I use the 'ToolBox' and drag a ASP.Net table to the workspace it starts as just a boarder with '###' inside of it, which I cannot drap and drop controls into. I'm not sure how to place controls into it. I figured out that you can add the Rows - then Columns in the properties window, but that just adds more cells which have the '###' in them. I can make it work with the HTML table, but I just want to know if I can do the same with the ASP.net table.

Program : my game is a frogger port, you make the frog cross the road until you run out of lives. When you die, you are asked to enter your name and the name is appended to the end of file called names.txt, the final score is appended to the end of a file called scores.txt.Using the System.IO functions, i read the contents of each text file, and load the contents into two separate strings (one for names, one for scores. These two long strings are then broken down using Split() command, transferring the pieces into an array. (again 2 arrays - one for names, one for scores). The contents of both arrays are then loaded into 2 listboxes, 1 for scores, 1 for names.
Problem: i can sucessfully load the contents of both files, and display them side by side - but i want to re-arrange the scores so that they are in descending order. While doing this, i need to make sure that the player name matches up with the score - so the order of the names being displayed would have to be changed aswell. After spending many, many hours trying to do it myself i have had to give up - i'm clueless. My first issue is converting the score array into integers so that the array could be sorted, the second problem is then sorting the names so that the scores and names match up.

I'm having my program sort an excel sheet by a few columns. However, it is only sorting by the first column not the rest that I specify.ere is my sort code below:
myRange.Sort(Key1:=myRange.Range("A:A"), Order1:=XlSortOrder.xlAscending, Key2:=myRange.Range("G:G"), Order2:=XlSortOrder.xlAscending, Header:=XlYesNoGuess.xlYes, Orientation:=XlSortOrientation.xlSortColumns)

I have a WPF ObservableCollection which is bound to a ListBox and I have a Sort() method which when called will convert the ObservableCollection to a List(Of T), and undertakes a sort based on a date/time column within the collection.
The data is sorted, even when new items are added to the ObservableCollection, however the date/time isn't being correctly sorted. The data is sorting based on the date however it is very much random when it comes to the time portion. The following is an example of the outcomes I am experiencing:
[Code]...
Is there anything that I am doing incorrectly in this method that would cause the time portion not be included in the sort? Is there a better way of doing a sort?

I have some VB .NET software that interfaces to a load of old (but sound) COM objects. The VB provides a GUI for the COM objects, part of which consists of setting various options on the COM objects - several of which relate to string formatting.I have a simple pair of VB .NET functions that convert basic %f, %d, %g formats to/from .NET equivalents using a large select case covering specific common strings, but they don't cover all formats.[code]Before I start diving in and making it more versatile with some parsing, does anyone know of a class (eg VB or C# .NET) that provides a decent ready-made implementation? Or perhaps some regexp wizadry could be used?

While I understand there are properties of MailItem that would allow one to programmatically create a formatted email, I would prefer the ability to copy the body of an email that is already formatted to my liking (bolding, italicizing, embedded pictures/tables, set margins, etc.) copy and paste it to a newly composed email such that this formatting is preserved.

I want to get the description of an external .exe file from my vb.net app, rather like in task manager. My program can monitor active processes and open their file locations, but it cannot get their descriptions (like in task manager) I want it to be able to do this, and I've found the following code to get the description of a normal file (I had to re-write it from csharp):
Public Class Myform
Imports System.Runtime.InteropServices
<StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential)> _
[Code]....
For example, if the process 'dwm.exe' is open, then I want my program to get the description "Desktop Window Manager." I want it to be universal for any program so it can be done with any open process.

I have a form that has appx 20 checkboxes. The data is stored in xml. We would like to have a textbox or panel at the bottom of the screen to display information about the check box. Just like the property box in the IDE. The information will be store in the description attribute. Does vb.net have functions that do that already or do I need to program for that? Also would I be best to but the description attribute on the xml or the property on the programs?
