Executing MATLAB Program In .NET?

Dec 24, 2009

I am working on a project, in which I have to run a MATLAB program in VB.NET In the project there is a VB.NET GUI, which contains a browse button. The user has to click on the browse button and select an image for processing. The user then has to click on the Process button for processing the image. After clicking the process button the image selected by the user has to go as input to the MATLAB program.

Q1) I want to know how to give the image selected by the browse button of VB.NET, as input to the MATLAB program for processing? Also while the image is being processed in MATLAB, a message such as "The image is being processed" must be displayed on the VB.NET GUI.

Q2) how to display the message "The image is being processed" on the VB.NET GUI, while the image is being processed in MATLAB?After the image has been processed in MATLAB, the image must be displayed on the VB.NET GUI.

Q3)how to display the image from MATLAB program in VB.NET GUI?

Send Messages Between Matlab VB6 And .NET Programs?

May 16, 2009

We are upgrading a suite of data acquisition and analysis routines from VB6 programs to a mixture of VB.NET, VB6, and Matlab programs. We want to keep the system modular (separate EXEs) so we can easily create specialized stand-alone analysis programs without having to constantly upgrade one massive application. We have used MBInterProcess to send messages between EXEs when all the programs were written in VB6 and this worked perfectly for us (e.g., to have the data acquisition EXE send the latest file name to a stand-alone data display program). Unfortunately, this ActiveX cannot be used within Matlab or VB.NET to receive messages. We are wondering what is the simplest string message passing system (pipes, registered messages, etc) that we could adopt. Right now we are just polling to see if new file was written in a specific folder, which can't be the best solution. Our ideal solution would not require a huge investment in time learning nuances of Windows (we are biologists, not full-time programmers) and would work in both WinXP and 64-bit versions of Windows.

In response to the queries, we have wrapped the entire Matlab session within a VB6 program that has the MBInterProcess ActiveX control. That works but is not a great solution for us since it will probably lock us into WinXP forever (and certainly will prevent us from using the 64-bit version of Matlab). The latest version of Matlab (2009a) can access .NET functions directly, so we assume one solution might be to use the .NET library to implement pipes (or something similar) across programs. We would like to recreate the elegantly simple syntax of the MBInterProcess ActiveX and have a piece of code that listens for a message with that program's top-level Windows name, and then call a specific Matlab m-file, or VB.NET function, with the string data (e.g., file name) as an argument.

Transferring A Matlab Function To Visual Basic?

May 10, 2012

I am trying to transfer a very complicated Matlab function into visual basic. It takes a matrix input and gives 4 outputs.

From my own research I found something called Matlab CODER, which can transfer matlab code into C/C++ code, however, this function is too complex for that. So I guess now my question is, it is possible to call my matlab function somehow within VB and store the outputs for use within my VB program?

The matlab function looks something like this:

function [f,x,s,c,l] = mytest(Y,varargin)
%Code here...
end % function

Plotting 2d Graph In C#.net?

Jan 19, 2011

I was writing a program on a web form which is reading a file and then plot the file as a 2d graph.

the file looks like

c1
number1
number2

[Code].....

where c1 c2and c3 is the header which the readfile stream should ignore and the total "number" numbers are decided by the user which can be a variable.

the graph will take the c1,c2,c3values as x-axis and the number values as y-axis.

how can I draw the graph from reading this file? can some one kind enough to show me some code?

Application - Plotting X/Y Graph ?

May 4, 2009

I wanted to plot a graph for one of my application in VB.net. I want a Time (X-axis) Vs Temperature (Y-axis) graph, where:

1. X- Axis has vertical lines every 10 minutes. So there are 6 vertical lines between 1 hr. The labels on the Axis should be written at every hour even though the vertical lines are at every 10 minutes. (Eg: 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:00, 14:00...)

2. Y-Axis should have horizontal lines every 10 degrees C. So there are 10 Horizontal lines between 100 degrees. The labels on the axis should be written at every 100 degrees (Eg: 0 deg C, 100, 200, 300...)

Plugin Using Matlab COM Automation Server...Error: 'Could Not Load Interop.MLApp'

Apr 26, 2010

My Problem: I am using Matlab COM Automation Server to call and execute matlab .m files from a VB.Net plugin for a CAD program called Rhino 3D. The code works flawlessly when set up as a simple Windows Application in Visual Studio, but when I insert it (and make the requisite reference) into my .Net plugin and test it in the CAD program I get the following error: "Could not load file or assembly 'Interop.MLApp, Version 1.0.0.0, culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. the system cannot find the file specified."

What I've Tried: I am baffled as to why this occurs, but I was able to contact the CAD program's technical support staff and they suggested that it has something to do with their DotNet SDK having trouble with references that are located far outside the CAD program directory. They didn't have any solutions so I tried playing around with copylocal and this made no difference. I tried using other COM libraries and the Open Office automation server works fine, although uses url's instead of requiring a reference. I also tested Excel, which does require a reference, and it returned the error: "retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {...} failed due to the following error: 80040154." This may or may not be related to the issue with the Matlab COM reference, but I thought was worthwhile to share. Perhaps is there another way to reference Interop.MLApp?

Serial Data And Plotting In VB 2010

Dec 2, 2011

I'm fairly acquainted with VB but the underlying .Net and many of the controls and whatnot I'm not all that familiar with. Hence, I have a real hard time trying to come up with ways to solve certain problems. I figure the best way to start is try to get some general guidance and go from there.

I have an external electronic device that gathers data (no need for details here) and has an internal micro-controller that interfaces from the device to a USB port. I need to build a PC based program in VB 2010 that can get the data from the device and plot it on a graph...possibly a fairly customized graph. Let's assume there is already a driver for this device that sets up a COM port (pseudo-serial I guess it's called).

Now what part of the VB toolbox of methods, controls, objects etc (what's the terminology for that again?) should I be looking at to start such an application? I don't want specific code or anything like that but what areas in this "toolbox" should I be looking at to begin?

Is there a way of just displaying the datapoint label with '<1.0' as text, or something similar?

Plotting An Array Of Points On Button Click

May 9, 2011

I have an global array of points that i want to plot in VB. say X and Y points, and typically they have values of +/-12000. Now I've not done graphics work for a long time and when I did, I used OpenGL with C. Now I need a GUI i'm using VB 2008. Firstly, what's the best method of rendering the array of points? should I use some port of OpenGL? GDI? or what?

Secondly, can I simply print to perhaps a Panel on hit of a button? Thirdly, do I have to place any line drwing code in an "OnPaint" event handler? Finally (for now) if my array represents points in a space much larger than the painting surface, how would I scale and scroll the final image within the the proposed Panel? I look forward to your advice.

Plotting Graphics And Output To Image File?

Feb 23, 2009

I am a total beginner to software development, I have purchased a copy of Visual Studio 2008 and have been working through a self teach book on Visual Basic.NET. I have some ideas for applications that I want to develop and am in need of some pointers.

I want to plot graphical objects and standard lines and rectangles based on coordinate data that I have imported into an array from a tab delimited text file. I have some bitmap symbols that I have created and I want to plot these in my programme along with some labels and save the output as a bitmap file or other suitable image file.

I am having trouble finding any help in the online documentation and want know where I need to start. Do I plot the graphics directly onto a form or do I need to add them to a picture box? When I get this far how to I create the image file?

Plotting In A PictureBox Within A Loop And Passing Variables?

Feb 24, 2010

This is my first attempt at doing something in VB.net. I would like to be able to read a text file consisting of a column of data values and then pass the data as a variable to a sub that produces a line graph and updates it with each iteration through the loop. So far I have the code to read the file as well as some code that produces a line graph using hard coded values.

I am unsure how to call this sub from my loop such that I can pass that data value read from the file to the graphing sub.

How can I call the "PictureBox1_Paint" sub from my loop? How can I pass variables read from the data file to "PictureBox1_Paint" when I am calling it? Is there anything different that needs to be done if I want the graph to update with each iteration through the loop (for each data point)?

Plotting A 2D Array Into A Chart Control As A Polynomial, VB 2010

May 17, 2012

So I have a 2D array of data, specifically, one "Cv" value for every 10% increment. I have been able to get the Cv's plotted vs % open with the following method:

Private Sub btnPlot_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnPlot.Click
Dim tempString As String

[Code]....

I haven't yet looked into this, but if there's any way to also export this graph as an image into an excel spreadsheet, We will be creating several spec sheets as excel workbooks and we will need to be outputting standardized sheets, which is why I'm trying to make this an application instead of directly implementing the code in Excel with VBA.

Charting - Plot Data Using The First Value

Nov 29, 2011

I have been learning and developing a software using VB for my company. I seem to have some issues with Chart function. [Code] Those 2 points will plot 2 datas (xval, finvall) & (xval, finvall2). Here is the thing. When I do the plotting, the starting points are always at (0, 0). That points come from the data point collector editor in the series properties. The question is: How do I plot data using the first value that I have? I don't want to start at (0, 0) but instead using (xval, finvall) & (xval, finvall2). I can't change the data point at run time. Many thanks!
