View 2 RepliesI am working on a project, in which I have to run a MATLAB program in VB.NET In the project there is a VB.NET GUI, which contains a browse button. The user has to click on the browse button and select an image for processing. The user then has to click on the Process button for processing the image. After clicking the process button the image selected by the user has to go as input to the MATLAB program.
Q1) I want to know how to give the image selected by the browse button of VB.NET, as input to the MATLAB program for processing?Also while the image is being processed in MATLAB, a message such as "The image is being processed" must be displayed on the VB.NET GUI.
Q2) how to display the message "The image is being processed" on the VB.NET GUI, while the image is being processed in MATLAB?After the image has been processed in MATLAB, the image must be displayed on the VB.NET GUI.
Q3)how to display the image from MATLAB program in VB.NET GUI?
I need to know how to execute some MATLAB functions in a VB.NET code. Please guide me in details to the steps should go inorder to do this.

View 1 RepliesWe are upgrading a suite of data acquisition and analysis routines from VB6 programs to a mixture of VB.NET, VB6, and Matlab programs. We want to keep the system modular (separate EXEs) so we can easily create specialized stand-alone analysis programs without having to constantly upgrade one massive application. We have used MBInterProcess to send messages between EXEs when all the programs were written in VB6 and this worked perfectly for us (e.g., to have the data acquisition EXE send the latest file name to a stand-alone data display program). Unfortunately, this ActiveX cannot be used within Matlab or VB.NET to receive messages. We are wondering what is the simplest string message passing system (pipes, registered messages, etc) that we could adopt. Right now we are just polling to see if new file was written in a specific folder, which can't be the best solution. Our ideal solution would not require a huge investment in time learning nuances of Windows (we are biologists, not full-time programmers) and would work in both WinXP and 64-bit versions of Windows.
In response to the queries, we have wrapped the entire Matlab session within a VB6 program that has the MBInterProcess ActiveX control. That works but is not a great solution for us since it will probably lock us into WinXP forever (and certainly will prevent us from using the 64-bit version of Matlab). The latest version of Matlab (2009a) can access .NET functions directly, so we assume one solution might be to use the .NET library to implement pipes (or something similar) across programs. We would like to recreate the elegantly simple syntax of the MBInterProcess ActiveX and have a piece of code that listens for a message with that program's top-level Windows name, and then call a specific Matlab m-file, or VB.NET function, with the string data (e.g., file name) as an argument.
i need to plot a 3D series of x,y,z coordinate in VB. I have search for hours on this matter but I can't seemed to find the answer.
The image above shows an example the kind of plot i am interested in.
I developed a neural network to train for face detection of the extracted images. However my program is built on VB.NET and I need to know the techniques by which I could load this neural network (Exported using NNTOOL) into memory and call it from VB.NET [code]I do not quite understand how this works, any suggestions on whether I could conenct the Neural network to VB.NET using this code and if so could you please explain to me about the Matlab.Execute and Matlab.GetFullMatrix functions.
View 1 RepliesI am trying to transfer a very complicated Matlab function into visual basic. It takes a matrix input and gives 4 outputs.
From my own research I found something called Matlab CODER, which can transfer matlab code into C/C++ code, however, this function is too complex for that. So I guess now my question is, it is possible to call my matlab function somehow within VB and store the outputs for use within my VB program?
The matlab function looks something like this:
function [f,x,s,c,l] = mytest(Y,varargin)
%Code here...
end % function

My Problem: I am using Matlab COM Automation Server to call and execute matlab .m files from a VB.Net plugin for a CAD program called Rhino 3D. The code works flawlessly when set up as a simple Windows Application in Visual Studio, but when I insert it (and make the requisite reference) into my .Net plugin and test it in the CAD program I get the following error: "Could not load file or assembly 'Interop.MLApp, Version 1.0.0.0, culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. the system cannot find the file specified."
What I've Tried: I am baffled as to why this occurs, but I was able to contact the CAD program's technical support staff and they suggested that it has something to do with their DotNet SDK having trouble with references that are located far outside the CAD program directory. They didn't have any solutions so I tried playing around with copylocal and this made no difference. I tried using other COM libraries and the Open Office automation server works fine, although uses url's instead of requiring a reference. I also tested Excel, which does require a reference, and it returned the error: "retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {...} failed due to the following error: 80040154." This may or may not be related to the issue with the Matlab COM reference, but I thought was worthwhile to share. Perhaps is there another way to reference Interop.MLApp?
I have created a program that saves the co-ordinates of the users mouse and saves it to a text file to be used as an auto clicker.
View 2 RepliesI'm using vb.net 1.1 to develop the program. I got text files that contain test result from a machine, like below.
T1 1.24535 2.56335 2.43253 1.24538 2.55619 4.35243
T2 1.42542 1.63728 3.57295 4.59275 1.57320 2.72057
T3 5.12857 2.45375 6.38593 2.58375 3.57259 3.57204
I need to check the test result with the data from database, to find out which test result is failed. If there is a fail test result, I will show an alert to the operator and stop the checking process. Until the operator close the alert, then the checking process will continue from the last read point.
I have a number of word documents I am converting. Everything is going great until I get a file that is read only. In this case I get a Save As prompt.
Is there any way to open the file in read/write format? I should have admin privileges so access isn't an issue.
I'm using VB.net to open the files. More specifically
doc = word.Documents.Open(path, Type.Missing, False, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing)
Reading a .txt file in VB.net. My file path is C:UsersMyLilMulePepeDocumentsVisual Studio 2008Projectscurtain_calls.txt.
This is my line of Dim LoanOptionsFile As String = "C:UsersMyLilMulePepeDocumentsVisual Studio 2008Projectscurtain_calls.txt"
I can read the file when I run the program, but how do I write the file path so that someone else can download my program and file and read the file on their system?
I'm trying to make a program that can read .mp3 data (Such as Artist, Album, Year, Track number, etc), but I need to be able to do two things that I have no clue how to do:
1. Read starting from a specified string (E.G, On one line it states: [code]
2. Read until a specified string (E.G, On the previously stated line,I need to read starting from what I said, up until.
I'm new to my VBA programing but have been finding this recourse excellent allowing me to improve my skills greatly but was wondering. Is there any way to have VBA arrays calculate in a "Matlab like" way?(eg.array1 .* array2 have each element of the two array multiply by the corresponding element in 2 arrays of the same size) (I'm currently working in excel if that's not apparent)
View 2 Repliesi need to read binary file and in this file found the string and replace it with other one and save the file afterwords. I found many example to read binary, but to find and replace is for me mistery.
View 3 RepliesI need to write data to a file, preferably in binary format, but I am unaccustomed with the concept. Where's the easiest place to get the basics? I could come here with a specific need, but I'm at the point right now where I am more willing to work within the confines of keeping it simple.
Here's what I know:
1. how to open a new file
2. how to specify the record length
3. how to close the file
Some specific questions:
Does the record length have to be constant throughout the file?
Can I read the nth record without reading the whole file?
I have a fairly simple XML file that I just want to read the data from.
It has 3 levels, root, main section and items. There are no attributes. I want to go to the first main section by name, then read in all the items. The items all are named the same. I've seen this done before, so it should be ok. No writing will be done. Basically this is a static data file
File looks similar to the following:

in my text file i have two part. Called bottom and top. So i need to read the Top part first then and match the line with bottom part. Its like this

I've gone through about 16 hours and two packs of cigarettes trying to figure this out. First a little background. I was using 6.0 up until 2004 when I went to prison. I'm out now, and trying to relearn the trade, using VS 2005. I'm currently porting some 6.0 code from another project, SpyCast Webcam Studio, into VB 8.0. It's disheartening, to say the least. None of the old built-in subs/functions work anymore, so I have to scour the forums to relearn each and every function.The section I'm doing now takes a snapshot from the webcam (Video API --> PictureBox --> Save as Jpeg), then upens the file to upload it to the server via HTTP POST. I've been using this code in SpyCast for years with no trouble, but I spent many hours trying to piece together the right code to open the binary file to read its contents. I pieced together two methods I found around the forums, one using FileStream() though the code I found wasn't for binary files, even though it said it was, so that code doesn't really work. Method two uses Microsoft.VisualBasic.FileOpen() and works better.
Here's the kicker. By the time I run through the rest of the rigamarole of uploading the file, by the time I read it on the webserver, it's *slightly* corrupted. It's a valid Jpeg, no errors, but the picture looks like when I use to watch the Playboy Channel when I was a kid scrambled with weird colors and whatnot. [code] Each "chunk" is basically one "line" of the file. It looks like a single LineInput() return is the text between two carriage returns. Am I correct? I tested this with a flat text file, and it looks true. However, That one input line returns the text or data with the carriage returns *stripped*! ***?!? =( Fine, I have no problem adding my own vbCrLf to each LineInput(), if I were opening text. but this's binary. A character could be Chr(10) or Chr(13), both of which are removed from the original file contents.So I could very well need to use something other than LineInput(), but I haven't found any other examples on the web using this method.

View 6 RepliesI need to implement a routine to read a plain text file, BUT that file has a predefined format.The file format is as follows:
Quote:
<FILE_PROPERTIES> 'The "< >" also appears
Propertie1="String" 'It's possible to have spaces after or before the "="
Propertie2="String"
Propertie3="String"
PropertieN="String"
[code]....
Is there any Windows API Routine to read something like that?Or could you point me an URL where something is implemented?I don't want a procedure to read the file line by line and comparing them with Line Input because blank spaces, empty lines and comments starting with " // " may appear too, and I don't want to take them into account, but also I need to save changes to the file, but only to the modified section, without having to read the whole file, and re-write it completely.
Binary access can't work, because I don't know what's the size of each "section", since the number of elements into it can change.
I need something like the "ReadINI" Windows API Procedure, but allowing me to read the "[XXX]" sections headers, and also the "<XXX>" file title header.
Before I begin I would like to mention that I am not a noob in VB, it's just I've never had to do anything this complex before. Basically what I want is to have a program that you can load a txt file in, have it copy key words, and paste it in a textbox so I can use it later on. So in this text file, there is a bunch of info, but I am only needing a certain part. Here is an example of a text file (actually a .dat file, but is easily read):

I'm using Visual Basic express 2008.The application I am working on is the first major project I have ever undertook with visual basics. The application is a launcher for a private server for world of warcraft.I have a menu bar that pulls the file path of the wow.exe and puts it in a hidden textbox, I then have another option that saves this text to c:wowexe.txt. All of this works GREAT!
How can I read the .txt file to end and return the information stored in the .txt file to this line of code.
Dim RetVal
RetVal = Shell("This is where I need the data from the .txt file to be seen", 1)
If your wondering why I don't just type in the path of the .exe, it's simple, not everyone installs World of Warcraft on the C drive.
i would like to ask is there anyway to read a txt file with UTF-8 encoding using streamreader or filestream. the txt file is contain some extended ASCII that makes me cannot read the characters properly. I hav tried Encoding.ASCII.GetString(Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes()) but still it return wrong character when it's reading extended ASCII code.
View 2 RepliesI am making trying to make a program that can read the file information directly from a specified file, but I am having a lot of difficulty reading things like file comments.An example of this can be found in windows XP when you alternate / right click on any file and click on properties. You'll get a lot of extra information.Now I have a few questions about this.
1.Can this information even be read in VB.NET
2.If so how
3.If not do I need to create some kind of data file to store the file information
Here is what I did so far

However, Im having issues with the entire process.I need to be able to read in a csv file, manipulate the data and then update the existing file. I have dabbled with using the Excel objects but I need some assistance.
