I need to add a column to an existing table in my database. I am having trouble adding a column to my database. I physically go into Microsoft Access and add the column, my problem comes up when Visual Studio does not recognize the table. Basically, I think I'm doing something wrong.

View 6 RepliesI am working with VB.NET.. i have a DataTable called "QUESTION", containing 3 fields:
QuestionNumber (unique integer key)
QuestionText
QuestionType
In my SQL Server database I created a Table called "QUESTION" with the same fields.
QuestionNumber is defined as integer unique key, auto increment
Now, when i make a bulk copy to insert the DataTable into the SQL Server, the database overwrites my QuestionNumber from the DataTable and generates new ones (starting from 1 increment 1).
How do i have to change my database setup, that the original QuestionNumbers are copied into the database?
I need to add a new field to an Access database table, the user has filled the table with data, so I have to add the new field but to preserve the old data.
I have found the ALTER TABLE statement, but it gives me an error (ALTER TABLE is not a valid statement)
I done this in php+mysql with "ALTER TABLE People ADD Address TEXT NULL AFTER Name" (as an example)

I have made a Database.mdf that contains a table that Includes 3 diffrent Column Names.
1:"ID" This one i set to an primary key and i have also made it automaticlly put a number in order to the list. Like 1,2,3,4,5 for each data added. Data Type for this is int.
2:"WordCombination" Were i enter my word combination that i want it to look for)
3."TypeofCombination" Were i enter what the program should add to what i typed in texbox1 if it contains the WordCombination.
I want my program to se if texbox1 contains any of those WordCombinations in my database. And if thats true, Then i want it to show whats in the TypeofCombination + the text in texbox1 in texbox2. If i enter "What do you want ?" in Textbox1 i want the program to find that "What do you want ?" contains "you want" like in ID:1 WordCombination:you want. So becuse this is ture it should enter TypeofCombination in this case "Question:" + what i entered in Textbox1 to show in Textbox2.So if i write "What do you want ?" and click start. I have set the AutoComplete Mode property to SuggestAppend and the AutoCompleteSource property to CustomSource. When I run the application nothing happens when I type into the textbox. I have a datagridview that is bound to a dataset by dragging it onto a windows form. I want one of the columns on the datagridview to be read only for existing records (rows), but I don't want it read only when the add new icon is pressed on the navigator. How can I tell when a row is being edited as opposed to being added?

I am working with two different connections because the information I need is stored in two different locations. One being Oracle, the other being Access. I pull all the information I need from Access with the exception of one field which I pull from Oracle. When I add this field to my datatable, it adds it to the end. I need to take rows that I have made from a previous table and somehow reuse them in another table that I am going to make, and I cant figure out how to. Its not necessarily the rows that's tricking me but its what the column name is looking for. Its looking for a string and I don't know how to make it so VB spits out what I want it to.
