Add A File In My Program It Gets Integrated Into The .exe Itself?

Nov 13, 2010

I have some certain files that my program references.I know some programs have a folder in the same place as the .exe, sometimes called "Dependencies", and in that folder there are files that the program uses.For example, take the iTunes folder.The iTunes folder in Program Files contains the iTunes.exe, some DLLs, and some folders that contain files that the program uses.How can I setup my program so that it does this? Everytime I add a file in my program it gets integrated into the .exe itself which in turn creates a huge file that lags. I want to have the .exe, and a folder which contains files that the program references.

Integrated Database In The Web Application?

May 5, 2011

I integrated my database in my web application. Previously I was just referring it to SQL server 2008 by defining a connection. Everything worked fine data was being fetched, calculations are done. Now when i integrated my database in the web application, problems arose.

Dim cost3 As Double
cost3 = Dataset.Tables(0).Rows.Item(0)(0).ToString

The problem is with this the error says: Cannot Convert type String "" to double. Before no such problem showed.

Windows Integrated Authentication?

Jan 29, 2009

I buit a ASP page that gets the users information who is logged into the computer ie username etc. This was using IIS6 Now I've moved over to IIS7 on Server 08, I set it up to use "Widows Authentication", however when i run my ASP.NET Page it uses the account NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE to do its work.Ive looked all over online, and cant find a way to fix this.I just want to pass the user credetials from logging into the computer, to the web.I've made sure that I have this in my web.config

<authentication mode="Windows"/>
<identity impersonate="true"/>

When I run this the site from Visual Web Developer and it creates the site, it pulls back the correct information.However, when I Then to my browser and check this and it dosent pull back the correct account, it pulls back that NT account.etc. but it always seems to pass the same wrong account NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE it should be my accountname I am logged in with.

SqlConnectionStringBuilder Trusted_Connection="SSPI" Does Not Yeild "integrated Security=SSPI" In Connection String

May 12, 2009

I have started using the builder class to create my connection strings for the sole purpose of making more generic connectivity code. However, I am stumped on this issue. The MS eConnect product apparently expects to receive integrated security=SSPI in its connection string if you want to use integrated security, (vs Integrated Secturity=True). I thought I would just pass "Trusted_Connection"="SSPI" to the builder class.

as it turns out, the item for Integrated Security is boolean and despite what the documentation says, will not give me SSPI in my connection string. Has anybody else found this issue and is there a simple fix for it? as for now, I'll simply strip out the item and replace it in my string.

VS 2010 Program Program That Generates A Batch File Stops Responding?

Sep 26, 2011

I've been working on a program that generates a batch file, then when you press a button, it executes that batch file. There are multiple batch files attached to each item in the list box.

[code]...

The only thing that it does when I press the button, is starts the batch file, then goes to function searchtitle, which executes the batch file again when it finds out it didn't work properly.The button text doesn't change, none of the items are being added to my first list box, and I can't do anything to the window after pressing the button. It constantly opens the batch file every 5 seconds or so.

Flash Card Program - Type All The Words On A Text File And Have The Program Randomly Pull One Of Them

Feb 15, 2009

Anyway, I'm a teacher and am writing a program that simply shows kids a word on a flashcard. There are 2 buttons, 1 to read the word and 1 to go to a new work. There are going to be 300 words. Really I'm just testing it right here. What I want to know is should I be inputting all the words right into the code like I did with "hi" and "not 1" (Don't ask. those are just the 2 random words I picked to test this out with). OR is there a better way (maybe somehow to type all the words on a text file and have the program randomly pull one of them (I don't know how to do this).

Here is the code so far:

Public Class Form1
Dim word
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click

DB/Reporting :: Database - Access Denied To A Text File (since It's Stored In The Program Directory In The Program Files)

Sep 20, 2010

I have a program where a lot of the required information for it is stored in text files. I simply read this information into large arrays. However, I don't think it's necessary to load all the information each time. Rather, it would be more efficient if I could simply search through a list of items to find the one I need and then use the data from it, or to find a similar name and use it elsewhere.

Would I be right in using a database? And is database programming done in SQL? I have a book on it telling me to use the SQL Server (IIRC), so I shouldn't be doing it in the VB.NET Express GUI?

Here's an example of what I would do:

Hex = 03 00 => dex number 003
Search in file Pokemon Dex Numbers
003 returns Bulbasaur
Check Bulbasaur base stats in the base stats file
etc

So basically I'm reusing a lot of information. I think a database would be best and it would all be internal right? I'm getting complaints about access denied to a text file (since it's stored in the program directory in the program files).

So to cap up the few questions I have:

-Databases are done in SQL and not inside the GUI?
-Databases would load internally?
-I could search a database without having to load it into like an array or something?

File I/O And Registry :: File Stream - Backup Program That Zips Files ?

Feb 9, 2009

I am writing a backup program that zips files. Using some sample code I have the following that creates a zip file. Problem is it does not get any subdirectories or files. Where am i going wrong?

Dim azFileNames() As String = Directory.GetFiles(SourceFolder)
Dim objCrc32 As New Crc32()
Dim zipStream As ZipOutputStream

[CODE]...

Alternativley, there is another component to the zipping dll that I could probably bypass the above altogether. It is: FZ.CreateZip(DestFile, SourceFolder, True, "", "") Where DestFile is (Output stream as system.io.stream). I'm trying to read all the files, directories, sub dir and files, etc from a specific location, let's say 'My Documents' into Destfile in which the FZ.CreateZip zips the file. FZ is FastZip which is from icsharpcode.net. They have c# examples, but that's greek to me. I'm trying to just learn VB!

Use The WebBrowserControl To Download A Program Generated PDF File Without The File Save As Dialog

Sep 15, 2011

I am writing a Windows Form program to automatically download and store generated PDF reports from a web site using the WebBrowser Control. The web site uses Ajax to link an icon back to the source aspx file which then returns a PDF file.

The problem I have is that the WebBrowser control brings up the File Save As dialog box when the PDF file is returned and I can find no way of handling this to cature and save the returned file. I have found other examples of how to manage this using the Navagating event to validate the extension of the file that is being accessed (e.g. [URL] and, if not an HTM, file then use the HTTP Web control to directly download the file. Unfortunately this will not work as the call references a .aspx page.

VS 2008 File Association And Opening Program From Save File

Jul 20, 2009

I'm having a slight problem getting my program to load a save file when double clicking the save file.I'm using the Command$() to get the command line argument. I can open a save file by dragging it onto the exe. But not by double clicking the save file (after it's associated with the exe).I though dragging and dropping a file on a program and double clicking the file would open it in the same way, but I guess not.So in short how does file association work and how do I get the file path set to a var when the program loads.

Passlist Separator Program Will Not Let Read And Write Half Of A File To One File, Then The Other Half To Another File?

Nov 8, 2011

What my program does is load a file (password list), then progressively reads each line of text in the file whilst writing each line to a new file. After X amount of lines have been written, it should start writing the lines of text to a new document until the initial password list has been split into X amount of password lists. The problem I have is that after hours of tweaking, all I can get it to do is write either blank ocuments, or write all of the lines to only one file. I really need it to be able to split into multiple files, preferably at runtime rather than loading a whole text document into the program in a textbox or array then writing it to new files.Below is the source:

Imports System
Imports System.Windows.Forms
Imports System.IO

Have Program Download File From Non-file Web Address

Feb 2, 2010

I have an account with a website and I want my software to automatically download files that are generated.

I go to the website and login, and then I click a link that downloads a file. Unfortunately, I can't use the My.Computer.Network.DownloadFile function, because the first argument of that function is a file address (http:// www . website . html/file.txt). Instead of that, the address if I look at the link to download the file is something like this (http:// www . website . com/pid=1&output=csv&action=view&pview=pview).

You see how this won't work? I'm looking to use my software to automatically download the file that's available, but I can't use the DownloadFile function.
