how can I get the array of column names from a datagrid. The datagridview is bound to a dataset that contains a datatable.
Example: Columns [A B C D E F G] then you would check the array and see if any values match those

View 1 RepliesI have a program where i let the user dynamically add DataGridViews to the interface, those are also added to a list for easy management. All of the DataGridViews have their own datasources. I am using a Databinding source to get different DataGridViewTextBoxColumns to add.
The problem is the following: When the user adds the first table the following code runs:
dataGridList(dataGridList.Count -1).Clear()
dataGridList(dataGridList.Count -1).Add(NameDataGridViewTextBoxColumn)
No problem there and the right data is displayed, but when the user adds the second table i get an exception thrown:
"Provided column already belongs to the datagrid view"
I think this is strange since i access different DataGridView's right?
The point of all of this is to be able to view different columns in all the DataGridViews depending on the users choices.
I attached a screenshot of my IRIS program and am wanting to implement a new feature, but I'm not sure how to do it. On the left hand side, you can see I have a bound datagridview control that displays a device name and an IP Address from a table in a database.What I want to do is have the option to launch a new form that has ALL the devices visible (including their state: green or red) and based on the size of the form, be able to auto-wrap to a new column.[code]So basically, instead of being able to only see the devices in the DGV on the left as it is scanning, I want to be able to see ALL of the devices in multiple columns in a new form. I looked on codeproject for a custom control to do this, but didn't really find anything.

Another noob question from me...one of these days I'll get the hang of this VB!I am importing data from an Access table that has four columns/fields. I have set up the relevant headings etc on the list view control...but I have also set up a 5th column as I want to have that representing the percentage change between columns 3 and 4 (which are numeric).

Both ExecuteNonQuery() actions yields the exception message {"Syntax error in field definition."}The error message does not happen with the first if the boolean column is not there (I tried Tes/No as a definition - but that also failed.The second query to modify the ID column from autonumber to integer I assume fails because it is a Primary KeyHas?

I have a procedure that sets a datatable variable called dtP equal to prpParametersTable at the beginning of the procedure. I then add three new columns to dtP.Here is my problem. When I add the three new columns to dtP my original table prpParametersTable also gets those columns added to it, why? I only want to add the three columns to dtP and not prpParametersTable. I have Dataset ds filled up with values Until now I was displaying values in GridView. Now I want that all the rows should be columns and columns should be rows.I have 2 options: Either 1 I can directly convert grid to columns and display it, or 2 I can convert the GridView to html and then write loops to convert. I am able to get it to do both but when I add an item to the list, convert to a range and then convert back to a list it leaves off the last items I entered.I tried to work in a code to select all cells but I must not be putting it in the right place.This is what I have so far:

In VS 2008, VB.Net, I am successful connecting to a local SQL Server (version 8) and seeing all tables/views/procedures in Server Explorer. The local OS is Win XP Pro SP3. I created an ODBC data source to a remote SQL server (also version 8) with a database of the same structure as the local one. The connection tests out ok. The remote computer runs Windows Server 2000 SP4. In the VS 2008 Server Explorer I add this ODBC source. When I click on the plus-signs to expand items, neither the tables nor the views show anything, whereas the full list of procedures appears. Is it the old SQL Server version? Is it the old Server OS version? Something else alltogether?

I'm studying as a mature student for a Computing Degree (encompassing web design, hardware, programming and systems analysis). The programming seems to be my weak spot this year. how to determine whether the property in question is a generic List(Of T)? If it is I need to loop the list itself.
I've experimented with GetType and TypeOf but have not managed to get anything working.
To clarify, I want to keep this generic. I do not want to specify the type of T, I need to loop the list items and call the ToString method on each item. T could be one of a number of different types (application specific reference types). Is it possible to do this without specifying types?
