View 2 RepliesI am using VS2008 and SQLite. I have created a database and several tables and am attempting to populate the tables with data from arrays.
The following code (example) works fine but stops after it inserts 30 to 50 records. I am running the VB code in debug mode and when it stops, I press pause to see where it is. It stops on "SQLcommand.ExecuteNonQuery()" and when I press continue (F5) it will insert another 30 to 50 records.
I do not get an error message. Is this a timeout issue? How do I keep the loop running to the end of the array?

This is my coding in vb.net. I have used two database (1) party (2)partydup. Structure of the tables: party table: fields :code, name1,add1,add2 etc. partyduptable: fields: code, description
In both tables i have common field ("code"). I tried to retrieve the value of "description" field from partydup table when the "code" field in both the tables are same. I run the below coding but it is showing the error as "No data exists for the row/column". But i have a record which contains the code field value as 123 in both the tables. Still it is showing the error.

I'm Using vb 2008 and an access DB.I have 2 tables in the DB which is transaction and products.When a Customer Buy product the transaction will record and the stock of that product will deduct accdg to the quantity bought by the customer. Myproblem is products table didn't update. Stock of that product still didn't change.
View 5 RepliesI want to gather some data from some tables of an Access Database, I've found some solutions online, but I haven't found ways to fill a datatable, or dataset, and get each single field properly. Is it easier for me to get whole tables then get just the info that i want, or should I make a lot of searches in the access DB getting just what I want each time? Any code snippets for it? The Access Database is in an ACCDB file, with no user or password. I'm currently using VB.NET, but it doesn't matter if you answer in C#. [URL]

I would like to show these saved details onto another form. Is there a way to select rows and cells in the database and fetch the data in them to display them onto labels?
I am developing a program that will contain a TabControl on a form. The TabControl will have multiple TabPages that will represent forms used in the mental health field by clinicians. What I have done so far is created a SQL Express 2005 database that contains a table for each TabPage. To start off, I am working with only 2 tables to see if I can make this work. The tables are called EvalPage1 and EvalPage2. Each table includes a field called ClientID which I have named Key Indexes. I am also using these fields to create a relationship: EvalPage1.ClientID (Parent) and EvalPage2.ClientID (Child)
The problem That I am encountering is when I use the BindingNavigator to enter and save a record, it only works for EvalPage1 and not for EvalPage 2. Here is the code that I am using:

I have a form with 5 fields(inputs). When I entered data in the form and click submit, the data is entered into an Access 2007 Database(Table). All the set up (connection) is working because the data table is getting populated with the user info. However, I also need to search the database by entering a name in the name text box and clicking a button.
This is suppose to populated all the fields with information from the data base if the user exist. The search part is not working. I have no more hair to pull. :) Here is the code:

I've been into programming, I've landed a job with a local company, the entire project the gentleman is paying me to do is incredibly easy, with one hitch, the original project I'm converting is built using access databases, for efficiency, and easier online transfer, I'm wanting to switch to using an SQL database, I've got plenty of experience inserting, modifying, and controlling an access database, but where should I start to learn how to essentially set up, create tables, and modify data within an SQL database?

It uses a datatable which is filled on form load and bound to a datagrid at design time. The datatable is stored on a shared drive. The data table on the shared drive is updated in two ways:
1) Users can update the datagrid which then updates the datatable on the shared drive via the data adapter's Update method.
2) A server application does some work on some text files, periodically updating the data table.
I need the clients to reflect the changes to the data table on the shared drive as closely to real-time as possible. I know that the data table stored in memory on the client is disconnected from the data table on the shared drive, so I must query again to get the updates.
1) Is there an alternvative model I can use which is connected, and which will automatically reflect the updates in the data table on the shared drive?
2) If not, what is the best way to check for changes in the data table (so I can know when to call the data adapter fill method)? I am planning to poll the drive for a change to the .mdb file, raise an event and then fill the data adapter when the event is triggered. I am using this method successfully now to check for changes to a text file in another application, and I know how to implement it?

I have two data tables within my data set that are loaded onto my form on form_load using statements written in code (not the designer. When I change a value for the first table via a text box the change is made to the data set. But when I try the same for the second table, the change doesn't remain in the data set when I switch to a different company and come back. I query the second table using the primary key of the first table but no code is needed when I change the values for the first table so I don't understand why the same doesn't work for the second when I change a value via a data-bound text box....

if it affects the run time of a program if I were to have multiple data tables as opposed to one data table with all my data in it? I am trying to minimize datagrids and just use code to access table data, in hopes that it will speed up my program. But I am ignorant if multiple tables vs 1 main table will make a difference because there will still be the same amount of overall data present in my program one way or the other....?

There could be twenty or thirty employees adding to this log or updating or doing things with that customer. This information is in a Data Table on a ASPX page in Visual Studio 2010 that the code is binded in the aspx.vb page that is calling a page in my APP_CODE database file that calls a query in my Database to get the information.My question is could someones actions on a different computer make my computer refresh or to re-bind that data.I have thought of some kind of timer/counter maybe that looks to see if the count of the log is different.
View 2 RepliesI am about to commence a little project whereby using a forms based application to visualise temperature in a building over a day. I am using data loggers placed strategically around the building (these record temperature and time of the read). I am planning to use a picturebox with the buildings floor plan within it and on using a scrollbar (using time as the metric) scroll through the day with temperature being represented by the size of the graphics on top of the floorplan (these represent the location i placed the data loggers around the building).
I have already built a tool to digitise the location of the loggers on the floor plan (saves the data loggers id ref and x y coordinates in the picturebox back to an access datatable).I am planning to use loops on scoll to draw and resize the graphics in another picturebox. The data loggers could be many (up to 30 or more) hence i am concerned this might grind to a halt or become so staggered that it will cease to be useful.The question i would like to ask is is this the most efficient way of doing this or am i going down a dead end.

For ex., if admin logged in, this user can access the whole system; if manager logged in, this user can only access the employee records; & accountant user can only access the payroll.

View 3 RepliesI've got two different tables in my database. One is Class and other one is LAREACT and both of them have a key field of MAIN FACILITY USED. In the following part of my code a DataTable will be generated based on the sum of the records on both tables.Based on the bellow code ACTIVITYLOOKUP datatable is having "MAIN FACILITY USED","Description","TypeName","Type","Id" columns. The issue happens when there is a row with the same MAIN FACILITY USED entity. The datatable will not show it (filter it?). Do you know where the problem lies? and how it will be fixed without any modification in database?

I'm looking for a recursive subroutine.I have the dataset from sql-server with in the datasource-table a parent- and a child-column.
I made a routine to put the parent-nodes in the tree.The problem starts with the childs over so many levels.I can write it out but it is to much code, I'm sure it can be done more efficient with a recursive subroutine.

I have a requirement to create a multi level treeview in ASP.Net (with VB) but I am completely stuck on how to start this. Currently my treeview is a fixed 2 level approach but now I need to rewrite this to be more dynamic and support extra levels being added into our database tables.So this treeview needs to support as many levels as needed without having to rewrite any code each time we want to add new level, Ideally we will just insert the data at the database level.I think I have the database part designed correctly, I created 2 tables Menu and MenuItemsMenu has 2 columns ItemID and ChildIDMenuItems has 2 columns ItemID and Description Doing this query:

Let's say I have three lists: Departments, Divisions, and Groups. A Department is made up of Divisions, which in turn is made up of Groups.The Divisions have the Department ID as a foreign key. The Groups have the Division ID as a foreign key.I'd like to produce a report that looks like this:

How to bind a database having 2 or more tables in it using vb.net.
View 1 RepliesI have a form with 3 datagridview controls that are bound to tables in a sql database. When the form loads for the first time the data is displayed correctly. If I add data to the db on another form then show the first form again the data displayed does not include the new data. If I close the app and then open it again then the new data is displayed.I cannot figure out how to manually refresh the gridview. I have tried calling the fill method of the adapter, using the refresh method of the gridview and parent control and form with still no luck. I have a ASP.net project I'm working on also and it is so easy to refresh the sqldatacontrol and the gridview and I would have though a win form would have been just as easy if not easier.

View 12 RepliesI have a database (acces) with 3 tables Table one has Id nr 1000 table 2 1000000 table 3 Id nr 1000000000 First table makes Id nr from 1001 to 1999. On Id nr 1001 i have multiple ID nr on the seccond table 10010000 to 10019999 and on the second table ID nr 10010001 i have multiple ID nr on the third table. This will last a while but the tables will fill up. Now i work with the Max value to find the highest ID number and add one to it.

how to create a local database, create some tables and set relations between those tables (just like in access) and I can show, add, edit and delete that data from a form.
but what I have yet to figure out is if I have 2 tables (i.e: tbleName, tblFood) and I want to have multiple tblFood items show for every 1 tblName item.
I've found that if I add a txtbox of the name table and a datagrid of the food table, the datagrid view shows all the food records, not just the ones for the name txtbox.
