I've created a basic search form. I have a textbox with a search button and an Access Database as the backend. I have also added it as a new datasource. What I'm looking to do is grab the search string from one textbox and return the data to another textboxt. I have a table called "VehicleInfo" and I want to search the field in my table called "VehicleID" and return the vehicleID I searched for into another textbox. I'm really new to VB. I understand databases and basic code structure, I just don't have a good grasp yet on how these two work together.
Public Class frmMain Private Sub frmMain_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load 'TODO: This line of code loads data into the 'Garage_ServiceDataSet.Service' table. You can move, or remove it, as needed. Me.ServiceTableAdapter.Fill(Me.Garage_ServiceDataSet.Service) [Code] .....
I have a field in an access database with decimals in it. I am using ADO to read in the data and are trying to assign it to a textbox in a form. This works fine when its a whole number. But it doesnt seem to work when its a decimal for some reason.
I have declared the variable i have assigned the access field to as a double, but when i set up a test textbox which i point the variable at and times it by 1000, it doesnt work. Works perfectly when i change the access field entry to a whole number though.
This sounds like im not using the right syntax or something.
I have a simple vb.net app and I'm trying to update a one row Access table with data from some textboxes. This is a learning exercise for me as I am coming back from not programming for almost 10 years, and know there are lots of other ways to manage this data, but I'm just trying to understand different aspects of ADO.net a little better.
The ERROR I'm trapping is:
"Syntax error in UPDATE Statement"
Any thought's as to what is going on? (See CODE and stuff below)
Here's the Scheme printed from ACCESS showing the exact spelling of the database table and column names:
i am relatively new to VB and i am working on a Visual Basic Program to build a Student Record Book where all the information is stored to an Access 2007 database. If the user is an administrator they will be able to add a new student, update delete etc. I managed to implement INSERT/DELETE/UPDATE functions and also a search button and they all appear to be working fine.
I am trying to set autocomplete for a textbox using data from a column in a table an Access database. Some of those records in the table have no values. I have set the AutoComplete Mode property to SuggestAppend and the AutoCompleteSource property to CustomSource. When I run the application nothing happens when I type into the textbox. The dataset is called DatabaseDataSet and the table name in the database is called Simple and the specific field/colum is called SIM_TAG1
'Create customsource for tag textboxes to suggest tag terms based on what is in database Dim oTag As New AutoCompleteStringCollection() For Each term As DatabaseDataSet.SIMPLERow In Me.DatabaseDataSet.SIMPLE
I am at a stand still on this one. I know how to connect and add to the database, I just don't know how to retrieve the information so that a user can see it! If anyone could help me with code or another example.
I am trying to retrieve information from one row that has four columns(name, company, address, phone) so that once it is displayed in 4 different textboxes, I can transfer to a word document.
In my application, I have a data bound form using a binding control (built by the wizard). The application has one primary data screen plus a few more on tabcontrol subscreens.Picture for example that the tabcontrol has two tabs, tab1 and tab2.When the form is displayed, tab1 is visible. Now picture the form or window split in half the top part of the form has a few textbox controls bound to the data and there are a few textbox controls in the lower half of the screen on tab1 of tabcontrol1.There are a few textbox controls on tab2 as well. When the form displays, I can access any of the .text properties of any of the textbox's that I can see on the form and in tab1 of the tabcontrol.BEFORE tab2 is chosen or even, I need to get some of the data from the .text property on a textbox control that is on tab2.I have tried to get the data but as far as VB is concerned, it does not appear to be there UNTIL tab2 is displayed.
To prove this, I put a command button on the form and it simply does this: MSGBOX (mytext box33. text)mytextbox33 is a databound control on tab2 of the tabcontrol1.tab2 is not in focus and apparently, neither is the data.how can I read the .text property of a textbox that is on a form but the form (or tab) is not in focus?

I built a game that has three forms (the game, player info, and scoreboard). When you die the Player form shows and has a text box for the user to into their name and then they click submit. After they click submit the Scoreboard form shows and their name and score is showed in disabled text boxes. Also in the Scoreboard form are two List boxes (one for their name, and one for their score). The list boxes are connected to the database through a databinding by dragging them over from DataSources into the form.
I would like for the information in the Name text box and Score text box to automatically be inserted into the database when the Scoreboard form is loaded. How do you insert text from a textbox into a database?the Name is the first column in the database and the Score is the second column in the database.
I open a form from the datagridview on a selected record in the database. When saving I have my code saving to (0) I need to somehow pull the text form the account textbox in order to save to that row in the database. here is a copy of my save button...

I am using the following code to try and import a txt file into an Access database however it is not working, at all. The txt file has approximately 10 columns in it but when this has finished I get 1 column with no Data.

I am trying to import a text file to an access database in VB2008 express. The text file I am testing with is a csv file with 34,000 records. The problem is this takes 2 minutes to read through all this and write it to the database. The actual text file I will be using in production has over 800,000 records and this will take a ridiculous amount of time. I think I am doing something wrong. I have posted my code below. I am reading a record, parsing out the fields to an array, then creating an SQL statement to insert the record and executing it.
reader = New IO.StreamReader(fname) Do While reader.Peek() >= 0 linesread = linesread + 1
I'm using Visual Basic Express 2008 (VB.NEt). I've created a project which connect to a Microsoft Access Database (OLEDB) & displays the records using textboxes in the windows app.
I need to add a button which exports the database to a fixed length text file. Does anyone know the code I would use to do this?

Now how can I split the text and import it to an access database.
I have a large text file that I want to use in my project, that data in the text file has about six items for each location. Now I had thought of importing the text file into a database using Access, but not had a lot of luck making it work. The question is is it better to load the data in the project as a text file then search for the string required or to convert it into a database. (The text file is a list of airports and related data.) Can a text file be converted to a Microsoft compact SQL database?
