Aug 13, 2009I am trying to set autocomplete for a textbox using data from a column in a table an Access database. Some of those records in the table have no values. I have set the AutoComplete Mode property to SuggestAppend and the AutoCompleteSource property to CustomSource. When I run the application nothing happens when I type into the textbox. The dataset is called DatabaseDataSet and the table name in the database is called Simple and the specific field/colum is called SIM_TAG1

Jun 3, 2011How to link my app to an Access database - there seems to be a number of approaches. I can add in my database via the Data Sources tab. Fine if I want to bind controls and view/edit data. But is this the best approach for queries that return an answer that is a different shape to the original table? Alternatively I can connect to the database directly (connection string, etc) and run sql queries. What are advantages/disadvantages of each approach? In terms of flexibility, is the second approach best? Also, does the second approach require the database to be added via the Data Sources tab?

Mar 12, 2010So i'm creating a simple application as an example that is to link to a Access 2007 database.
On my main form i have four listboxes that are correctly attached to the table, I have one for First Name, Last Name, Phone, and School. I added 3 records to the database in Access to see if I could display the records in the listboxes on the form. I found that it was very easy by setting the properties and I have no problem there. I also have a command button that loads a new form for the purpose of adding a record to the database.

What i'm looking for is when the user presses the Add button on the frmAddNew form then it needs to close and the new record is listed in the textboxes and saved to the database. Id also like to know all kinds of things i might be able to do with textboxes and databases because i'm trying to learn for a larger project where i'll need to keep track of hundreds of records.
I understand that this is a simple procedure, but i've been spending all night scouring tutorials and getting lost in the msdn library online, so maybe some human input will be better.

May 4, 2011I am working on a project that requires us to create a bracket type tournament and I am now stuck. I linked my access database to my project, and have 32 labels (lbl1-lbl32) and I cannot figure out how to integrate the labels to read from my database. It can be random or not, I just cannot get the labels to display the names of the fighters.
After the labels are integrated, the next coloum of the bracket has a link that opens a new window with each of the fighters match results, does the link have to include anything particular to display the attributes from the database?

Each contact should have a column for every survey, indicating whether or not the survey has been completed. However, this means I need to add columns to the database while the program is running. Primary Key Column Value In MS Access Database
Jan 21, 2009I'm using vb2005express for forms (front-end) and ms access database. I have a form with a master-detail setup. The problem I'm having is that when I set the primary key column to autonumber, I don't get the pk value generated in ms access database into my master datatable in forms when a new record is created. Then I tried setting the AutoIncreament to True in the pk column of the datatable in my dataset (forms). This generates a number in my pk column but its not the number generated in the database (since I think because the pk column is still set to AutoNumber). So I change the field property of my pk to Number in the access database and on my dataset (forms), i still have AutoIncrement to True.
This works okay since what it seems to be doing is getting the max value for the pk column when the datatable is filled upon form load. The problem now is that I normally don't do tableadapter.fill(datatable) at form load since I think there would be a performance issue if record counts around millions. What happens now is that when I create a new record, the pk generated is still 1 which will cause duplicate violation when saving to database. I'm not quite familiar with access features but in oracle, what I do is I create a sequence in database then I create a function that gets the next value of the sequence. Then at form load I set the datatable.column.default_value = get_sequence. How do I do this in ms access?

Say i have a database (My_DB) and it has a table (item_details).
I wish to make dataentry into the elements of item_details table which currently has 6 fields. So i add 6 textboxes and 6 labels and make user enter them, one record at a time.
Say tomorrow i add or remove a field from the table item_details. I want such a mechanism where if the underlying table structure changes, the corresponding number of textboxes and labels must automatically change themselves. i.e. if i remove a column and now i have 5 columns, the form must also have 5 labels and 5 textboxes. Are there any controls to achieve this functionality. Am i talking MVC here?
