Means if i have two columns in database namely name & email i wanna search the users or email by entering either name or email on textbox then after clicking the search button record will be displayed in gridview ?can anybody tell me the select query for this ?
View 1 RepliesRegarding multi column search, i want to clear you the situation where one column contains say FirstName and the another column contains LastName for the 'Contacts Combo box', then when user types either FirstName or LastName for the person, combo box should search for the appropriate value into both columns.
for my fifth question consider the same combo box with FirstName, LastName all typed together shows in one column only then, by default combo box searches only for strings that 'Start' with the string typed in the textbox portion, insted of which i need a feature which allows me to let set the behavior of combo box search system tobe able to search for the typed strings within any part of record.i.e. If user types 'Ja' in textbox portion, the the list should show following maches

I am coding a Windows Application in VB.NETI am coding one particular form for an Emergency Reponse Information System (for varsity)On my form, I have three textboxes (one of which must be filled in) and below them I have a datagrid. searching a database using multiple words from a textbox showing in gridview.

It works fine, i click button and the gridview shows all the right records. The problem is when i use more then 1 word in textbox. it shows nothing. The record in the database field may have several words, so i need to search using all words in textbox.
I have sucessfully written in excel VBA. The idea is to used the textbox1_change event to find a match in column A of table and once it finds the record, return the value of column B as label1.text. [code] In VB 2008 it's a lot different. I have set up the form the same way with the textbox and labels. I have made a dataset with (1) table (Table1) with (2) columns. Lets call them column A and Column B.I have added the dataset as a binding source to the form and also a table adapter. I also have a standardized query made for the dataset with a very simple SQL statement "SELECT Column A, Column B from Table1"..In order to get the user input to start searching Column A I assume under the textbox_change event i would put something like: [code] I'm getting a bunch of errors of course. When it is set to true, the data column can be accessed with no problem. Any suggestions as to how to correct this? I have looked through the documentation, text books, and I have not found anything that gave me any clue as to what the problem could be. I thought that the property was just applied to the column, not that it would remove the column from being accessible.

Say i have a database (My_DB) and it has a table (item_details).
I wish to make dataentry into the elements of item_details table which currently has 6 fields. So i add 6 textboxes and 6 labels and make user enter them, one record at a time.
Say tomorrow i add or remove a field from the table item_details. I want such a mechanism where if the underlying table structure changes, the corresponding number of textboxes and labels must automatically change themselves. i.e. if i remove a column and now i have 5 columns, the form must also have 5 labels and 5 textboxes. Are there any controls to achieve this functionality. Am i talking MVC here?
I have a list box that is bound to a table in a database. It produces a list of companies. The user will then come along and select multiple companies that they want to view information about, and then they hit a select button which I'll display the company information (e.g company name, company site, address e.t.c) in a gridview underneath. However the issue that I am having is that it only displays ONE of the multiple companies selected and its always the top one. How I get all the companies to be displayed in the gridview?
