Remove A Textbox In Designer When A Column Is Deleted From The Database
Aug 14, 2009
i am working on a Windows Forms application using VB.net. It basically is an application made in vb 6.0 being upgraded to vb.net. Now i have an idea but i am not sure if it exists.
Say i have a database (My_DB) and it has a table (item_details).
I wish to make dataentry into the elements of item_details table which currently has 6 fields. So i add 6 textboxes and 6 labels and make user enter them, one record at a time.
Say tomorrow i add or remove a field from the table item_details. I want such a mechanism where if the underlying table structure changes, the corresponding number of textboxes and labels must automatically change themselves. i.e. if i remove a column and now i have 5 columns, the form must also have 5 labels and 5 textboxes. Are there any controls to achieve this functionality. Am i talking MVC here?
I am attempting to update an existing winforms application, that was created with a dataset control on all the winforms pages. I have ported it from VS 2008 to VS 2010 and I need to update the database section and connect it to the SQL backend using traditional code method. In the Solution explorer, when I click on the Dataset files, and click "Exclude From project" I am unable to build the project. Is it advisable to comment out the code lines that refer to the dataset in the .designer.vb files?
i'm trying to make a login form connected to an sql server database. my data base has records like this:
fname - lname - minit
each name in a separate column, and i wanted to use the name as the login username, so in the dataset designer i made a new column and concatenated the names together like this: lname+fname+minit but at Dim dr As SqlDataReader = cmd.ExecuteReader i get this error:
"Invalid column name 'username'. Invalid column name 'username'."
i'm asuming that's because username doesn't actually exists in the database, only in the dataset.is there a way to get that to work with out the username column actually existing in the database?
Imports System.Data.SqlClient Public Class LoginForm Private Sub OK_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles OK.Click
I'm making a login form in VB.NET, and I have a table in mysql called user. What I want to do is before a user can login the Administrator column of the user table must be TRUE and the DELETED column must be FALSE. I've tried everything I know but all non admin users are still able to login... Heres how the user table looks like:
I have a TreeView with several nodes that have child nodes. Whenever I create a child node, it sets the image to a seemingly random icon in my ImageList. There are a couple of properties for the TreeView that have this icon, but nothing happens when I change it to a different one. And besides, it won't let me set those properties to "None."
I tried look at the properties of the child nodes, but everything is set to none and nothing changes. Does anyone have any ideas? In the photo below, you'll see the Internet Explorer node and its child nodes that have the Chrome icon. I need the child nodes to be blank.

How to retrieve the particular column row to the text box?
I mean how to display it in textbox?
The column has got different rows.
The code I wrote in vb net is :
cmd = New SqlCommand("select ida from Issue where aname='" + TextBox3.Text + "'", con)
In the above line I compare the textbox3 data in the table. And if the data matches then it should display the ida that matches with aname row to textbox4.
Means if i have two columns in database namely name & email i wanna search the users or email by entering either name or email on textbox then after clicking the search button record will be displayed in gridview ?can anybody tell me the select query for this ?
I am facing a strange situation. I am having a database inside my my Vb.net application and having various table in it. when I am saving data in my database, the data got saved in it but and every thing works very nicely but after some times means after 5 to 10 minutes the data gets deleted automatically from my database.
I am trying to set autocomplete for a textbox using data from a column in a table an Access database. Some of those records in the table have no values. I have set the AutoComplete Mode property to SuggestAppend and the AutoCompleteSource property to CustomSource. When I run the application nothing happens when I type into the textbox. The dataset is called DatabaseDataSet and the table name in the database is called Simple and the specific field/colum is called SIM_TAG1
'Create customsource for tag textboxes to suggest tag terms based on what is in database Dim oTag As New AutoCompleteStringCollection() For Each term As DatabaseDataSet.SIMPLERow In Me.DatabaseDataSet.SIMPLE
I have a table adapter which is bind to a grid, and I have three button insert, update and delete. Insert and update are working fine, when I delete a record in grid it is been deleted but it is not been deleted in database. Once again if I run the application the deleted record is shown.
How will I transfer deleted record into another table instead of deleting it permanently? I think it is what we call "history"..somehow..For example I have 2 tables. 1 is Original_Record the other is Deleted_Record. If I deleted one record in Original_Record, the deleted record will be transfered into Deleted_Record table.
VS 2010, VB.NET, WINFORMS. In my app i have a need to import foxpro database tables and exclude the deleted records. The problem is that FOXPRO tables keep deleted items inside the same table. I have tried using DELETED=NO in the connection string but vb throws "Format of the initialization string does not conform to the OLE DB specification."
My function is as follows:
Dim _DBConn1 As String = "provider=vfpoledb.1; Data Source = " & file1 & ";DELETED=NO" Dim _DBConn2 As String = "provider=vfpoledb.1; Data Source = " & file2 & ";DELETED=NO" Dim _DBConn3 As String = "provider=vfpoledb.1; Data Source = " & file3 & ";DELETED=NO"
Google results pointed me in the direction of DELETED=NO but its throwing that exception error now that I have added it..
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Dim textbox1 As New TextBox
[Code].....
When this row GroupBox1.Controls.Add(textbox1) and GroupBox control are being deleted from Form, the TextBox isn't created on the Form after the event is fired.
I really am stuck. I can add records to a table ok . when i close and restart my code the new records are still there but deleteing does not work. I delete the records, they disappear. I close and restart the code agian but the deleted records return. this is my code.
It seems that there is no way to preserve changes to a DataSet made with the Designer when there is a change to the database. The only way to get the Designer to rescan the database to incorporate a change is to delete the DataSet and then recreate it. This of course blows away all the mods you've made in the designer. There should be a way to have the Designer rescan the database while preserve all the mods that have been made in the Designer. Otherwise the Designer is essentially useless after the initial generation of code. What am I missing?
As a workaround, I tried incorporating the changes to the database by making the same change in the Designer rather than recreating. However, clearly no one tested this is it only partially regenerates the code based on the change. Try changing a field from nulls not allowed to allowed. This works when you add data to the DataTable, but bombs as soon as you update the database, because the DataSet code does and the database code doesn't get regenerated.
Is there any way to remove the textbox's focus when mouse is clicked in the textbox? the blinking focus in the textbox is not needed for kiosk system. so i try remove it with
In my window application i have taken one combobox field with its collection as "amc", "war" etc. Now in my datagridview this combobox column is display as Textbox column, i want to change it to combobox with the above collection "amc","war". I have retreiving the result in datagrid through sql query, hence in datagrid edit column section we doesnot have that part to change to Combobox column.

Is it possible to connect ado.net to an xml file and then make the xml file a data source on my project where I can bind controls to it in designer mode?
In my application I have several datagrids databinded to various tables. Within these tables I use many times a date field. The database is made in access. At the beginning I had the date format on default as long date. When I saw that time was added I changed it to shortdate. Still I get the time in the various datagrids. How do I remove the time from the datagrid so no time is entered when I create a new field.
I have an Access 2007 database with a column defined as AutoIncrement. I need to remove the definition while I programitically load data into the database and then re-add it when I'm done. I've unsuccessfully tried the following code, but get an error: "Exception from HRESULT: 0x800A0CC1" I'm using the following code to try to remove the attribute:
Dim cn As New ADODB.Connection Dim cat As New ADOX.Catalog Dim objTable As New ADOX.Table() Dim objField As New ADOX.Column
I am trying to utilize the DATAbase Diagram designer feature of SQL Server 2005 Express Edition and I get the following messages:
1) This database does not have a valid dbo user or you don not have permissions to impersonate the dbo user, so database diagramming is not available. Do you want to make yourself the dbo of this database in order to use the database diagramming?
2) When I select YES I get the following notification: Could not obtain information about Windows NT group/user xxx/xxxxxx, error code 0x54b
I've included an MS Access database in my WPF VB app, and I'm trying to link the data to an XCEED Datagrid. I have the following code in my testerDataSet.Designer.vb file which I assume is the funcion I should be referencing
Public ReadOnly Property Contact() As ContactDataTable Get Return Me.tableContact End Get End Property
I'm trying to get it to fill my datagirid using this <Grid.Resources> <xcdg:DataGridCollectionViewSource x:Key="cvs_contacts" Source="{Binding Path=Contact, *Source={x:Static testerDataSet}*}"/> </Grid.Resources> [Code] ..... What I'm trying to achieve is for the datagrid to display the data in the Contact datatable.
