I have a table adapter which is bind to a grid, and I have three button insert, update and delete. Insert and update are working fine, when I delete a record in grid it is been deleted but it is not been deleted in database. Once again if I run the application the deleted record is shown.

How will I transfer deleted record into another table instead of deleting it permanently? I think it is what we call "history"..somehow..For example I have 2 tables. 1 is Original_Record the other is Deleted_Record. If I deleted one record in Original_Record, the deleted record will be transfered into Deleted_Record table.

Is there a way to add a new record in the table adapter without sending it to the DB and get a predicted primary key so I could put this as the foreign key in tables 2 and 3.

I have a data table whose one column is related to a column of another table. I have a listbox in a form which shows a column (which is sorted by another column value by ORDER clause) of the parent table and other columns are in textboxes. The child table is represented by a datagrid. When I add a new item in parent table and click save, the newly created item is listed at the bottom of the listbox violating my ORDER clause. View 3 RepliesI have a VB project with a form where user adds/modifies the data, data are stored in SQL. On the form there are 2 tables that are linked by employee ID. When I test the process and insert a new employee record and add new comment for this new employee in DataGridView - when I save it I get an error that "Object reference is not set to an instance of an object". During more detailed debug it says that CurrentCell is set to Nothing - even that I do have values in all fields.I do set employee ID in the related table in the Grid to the value from the employee record - so all primary keys do have value and the comment is saved after all but I get an error and saved comment dissapears from the screen right after saving. When I pull the same new record again - everything is saved. What am I missing and how to avoid the error and dissapearing of the saved comment?
Also - I tried to save the new employee data in the first table first and then add comments - it didn't solve the problem. But if I add first part of information in the main table, save and close the form, then go back and add comment - it works fine. The problem is - it's not convenient for the user - they'd like to enter everything at once.

I am leaning VB and have created a basic inventory app for work that consist of 4 tables, CurrentInventory, Surplus, Staff and Category. Each of these tables have a corresponding form. My question is with the CurrentInventory and Surplus form/tables. I want a button on the CurrentInventory Form that when clicked the current record would be transferred to the Surplus table and deleted from the CurrentInventory table.I am assuming that I could somehow use the INSERT command to copy the current record to the surplus table but I am not sure how to accomplish this.

I using the MaxRows in deleting the record, so it just delete the top of the data list, while i want to delete the selected record.

View 11 Repliesi have a bound datagrid that allows users to delete & edit records within the grid using 2 buttons. delete deletes the record from the datatable. edit takes the cell values and places them in controls outside of teh datagridview for teh user to update, they then click an update button (outside datagridview) which updates the datarow
i delete a record using the dt.Rows[e.RowIndex].Delete method so that i can use the Rowstate property to do a final update on all records the problem arises when i delete a record then go to edit a record the CurrentRow index is incorrect as it still see's the deleted record.
if i delete the first record in the grid, then go to edit the next record (which is now rowIndex 0) i get an error saying unable to update deleted row contents
i then tried to use the defaultView property of the datatable when updating the row - which will update the row on screen but when i go to do the final update it see the modified row as its original deleted rowstate.

and what I'd like to do is when users edit something on this form that they post the changes to a table called exceptionsedit which is not part of that dataset. What I don't know how to do is to how to insert those edits to the exceptionsedit table.
My query is i want to save record from an excel sheet to my Database Table.
But i dont want to insert the Excel sheet as a whole rather i want to insert the record in my database table Row wise.Inserting the records is not the only thing but my major issue is i want to check and compare the Primary Key column of my Table with the Column in my Excel.
Suppose Table1 is my Sql Database Table,and RegistrationNo is the Primary Key Column.Similarly there is also a column of Registration Number in my Excel Sheet.
Now before inserting each record the RegistrationNo column should be compared.If the a registrationNo in the excel sheet say RegistrationNo 112 is already present in the table then it should not Insert the record and if its not present then it should insert.
Also the other issue is the number of columns in my Database table are more than the number of columns in my excel Sheet.So the columns that are not present in the excel sheet should be set to NULL while inserting the record in the Table.

To get an id value after a table insert into an Access database you do a SELECT @@IDENTITY. I would like to know if this will work if your INSERT query is a table adapter query? I created an INSERT query for a table in the dataset designer which is working. My concern is that if I make another query with SELECT @@IDENTITY it won't work because table adapters make a new connection each time. Can someone clear me up on this?

They appaear in the XSD designer but for some reason are not filling the form when it loads. I the form is writting to the backend correctly via hand coded SQL.
