Allow A User To Input A Word Or Phrase And Then Determine If It Is A Palindrome
Dec 8, 2011
I'm working on a problem where i have to allow a user to input a word or phrase and then determine if it is a palindrome (a words that reads the same forwards and backwards) . It also says that the program should use a Boolean-valued function procedure named IsPalindrome that returns the value True when the word or phrase is a palindrome and the value False otherwise.
I'm trying to identify if the input of a textbox is non numerical, which cannot be converted to an integer/double for calculation. I do this by converting the input1.text to ascii, and looking at the value to determine the type of input. My question is whether there is any way I can analyze the whole input character by character? Asc() only gives the ascii value of the first character, but what if the input is "9W" etc? Such inputs will pass my character test, but cannot be converted to an integer.
Alright. I have a project I need to complete by 11:00 am today. I need a program that will allow a user to input a phrase into a text box. Another text box to input a letter. Then I need the program to count how many times, the letter appears in the phrase. I have everything set up. I know how to count how many characters are in the string, but not how many designated letters there is.
I'm having a very difficult task here. I need to analyze a certain text and find the minimum number of characters it needs to become a palindrome. The text will not have any special characters or numbers, just alphabet letters. Now, I've made some progression and have tried a lot of situations correctly, but in some situations I've gotten wrong outputs on the MINIMUM number of characters needed. I've tested the below texts:
I have an assignment that asks me to create an application that lets the user enter a word or phrase, then displays the number of vowels found in that word or phrase.
Here's what I have so far:
Dim mystring As String = Me.txtenter.Text Dim chars As Char() = mystring.ToCharArray() Dim newString As System.Text.StringBuilder = New System.Text.StringBuilder()
For a project I am doing i need to create a hangman game on visual basic.net. I get given the code and need to make certain changes.
I need to make it: Get a New word or phrase from a text file Be able the user to guess the whole word have some validation so you can only type in spaces and letters using their ASCII values This is what I have done so far but it is asking me to declare "i" when my teacher says we dont have to:
Dim NewPhrase As String Dim PhraseHasBeenSet As Boolean Dim PhraseGuessed As Boolean
I am trying to make a program which goes through the HTML code of a page and then searches for a certain phrase. I have gotten up to the point of executing a search on a site and then dumping the html code of the body. How would I go about doing this?
The phrase I'm looking for is "<tr><td><a href=javascript:d(87178)>Name of File</a></td><td>Date Submitted</td><td>Likelyness to work(%)</td></tr>
All I would need to do is find the number inside of the parenthesis (87178) in this example and I THINK I'm good to roll, so how would I do that?
I'm learning to Program in school and i use vb.net 2003. Im trying to create a letter count application that displays the number of times a specific letter occurs in a word o phrase. (uppercase lowercase letters should not be counted) I started out by doing the folllowing:
I need to pull a random word from a text file in my resource folder (visual Studio 2010) and then have a user enter a letter to see if it is in the word. Yes, Hangman game. There is more, but right now I need to pull from that text file for a start. I know what I have is not even close to right under "Get Word Button", but I'm kind of confused about the process.
Public Class hangMan Private Sub Form1_Load(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load Dim word As New Random End Sub
I ran into this assignment that asks me to "create an application that allows the user to enter a word or phrse, then the Label should display that word or phrase backwards in all lowercase. For example, I enter "I read" Then the label should display "daer I" I try to do this with "Substring, Replace, etc", butnone of them work. Is there any particular method to achieve this assignment?
I'm trying to find a way to have text that would be "Live" as in if a user types an incorrect phrase/letter in a text box, a message will appear prior to a "save" button being pressed. It's pretty much the same as when you're registering on these forums, it checks the availabilty of the username as you type it.
I need some help with the input validation of my application. Attached is the code that I have written as well as a screenshot of the front end. I specifically need input validation to verify that the user selected input for cbLengthOfStay is a number between 1-10 as well as input validation to verify the user input for txtMedication, txtSurgicalCharges, txtLabFees and txtRehabilitation is a positive numerical number. Please feel free to critique my attached code. [Code]
If my Category and Forum selection is incorrect I am sorry and feel free to move it. I'd like to have the users input in the message box that will show. For example: There is a textbox and the user puts in their name as Bob. Then the message box would be: What my main goal is, is being able to include the users input they type inside the textbox inside the message box.
I am trying to navigate the URL to an applet login interface. Is there a way to determine if the applet is ready to take input? You know when Java is loading. My timing is not right, and I want to be able to make it stable by determining when Java applet login object is in a ready state.

I cannot figure out how to incorporate the number of days into the input box then get it to loop and count the number of times the User inputs in the number of days. Then I have to incorporate it into the equation to get the total distance D = MPH * Hours. What I have right now wil not count up the number of days and locks up after I input one number and will not add anything to the listbox. Because I also have to make sure that they cant add nonnumaric values and the number of hours per day cannot exceed 20. I have put things in and taken them out but it has been 2 days and I am lost now
I have an issue with an Office addin I'm working on, which is implemented for Office 2003 & 2007. The addin is written in VB.NET 3.5 using VSTO.The problem comes from some external code which automates a mail merge, opening the mail merge template, merging and then closing the template document. The close is done with this code:
Because of some logic in my addin, instigated from the Interop.Word.Application.DocumentBeforeClose event, a message box is opened which prevents the Office document from closing, which breaks the automation.
Is there a way for me to determine the SaveChanges parameter (if any) on a Close within an Office.Interop.Word.Application event, such as DocumentBeforeClose? I'm trying to capture this parameter and determine if it's set to wdDoNotSaveChanges so that I can work around this problem.
I'm trying to save what the user types in the vb code Dim user as Inputbox("") for example in a .txt file i can save the textbox and listbox but i cnt figure out how to save the inputbox i really need this to be saved the most.
I am creating a form for work where managers can report when they find a customer's personal information laying around on a desk (we work at a call center where agents answer calls for a wireless cell phone provider, so we take personal information security very seriously). Anyway, I am wondering if there is a way to have a text box autofill with that manager's windows username (since they will need to be logged into their own profile to use the form).
I need something tje user can type in data to such a parts QTY cost etc. There are no predefined parts list so the user can enter any part name/Number and there is no limit to amount of parts that can be entered.
Does anyone have any idea what might be useful. It was thinks of a listview bu i can't see that you can type into that. I cant use comboboxs because there are no predefined list and i know there is some way to generate text at runtime (i think) but i don't know how to do it and i would prefer a clearer approach.
is there a way to determine what theme that the end user is using.for example im making a program where the glass is extended so if the end user uses the program on a computer that is not using the vista aero theme then the program will look different then it would if they were using the aero theme.how would i check to see if they have the aero theme and could i set the theme to aero from my program?
I have a word document (word 2000) and a drop down form field with options A, B and C.If the user pics A, I wants to hide some text and show some other text. If they pick B, then hide something else, show something else, and so on.How does one do this?I assume I need to pass the form field contents to a procedure or macro and then go into If >Then font.hidden = true or something? I've identified the text to hide/show with bookmarks, so I think I can use the bookmark as a range to hide or show?
How do I pass the form field content to the procedure? Also, can I trigger the procedure once the user selects something in the drop down? Like kick a macro off I'm thinking?
I need to be able to validate the windows password of the account that is currently logged in. I've managed to do this when the unit has a password. But if it does not have a password, passing an empty string does not work. It fails each time.I've been looking around, but haven't been able to find much on this. Does anyone know how to determine if the user password is empty?[code]

I would like to determine when a Windows (XP, or 7) machine is locked, and unlocked.I would like to create a timesheet activity logging app, and pre-filling times in, with lunch, breaks taken, etc, would be very useful. Is it possible to pick up an event that fires when the Windows Operating System is locked and unlocked ?
I am currently using the FileOpen method wrapped in a try/catch block to determine if a particular Excel file is currently in use or not.
When my app tries to access the file, I would like to be able to notify the user who it is that already has the file open. If I try to open the file in excel while it is in use, the message that Excel provides includes the network login of the user that has the file open. Is it possible to get this information via code so that I can tell the user of my app the login of whomever already has the file open?
I need to write a program using a For Next loop to accept a word as input and determine if its letters are in alphabetical order.
This is the code I came up with but am getting the error "Index and length must refer to a location within the string. Parameter name: length" at run time when I click the button.

I need to create a a palindrome checker program. Now I know how to check a simple palindrome by using the reverse method however I am unsure if the palindrome had special characters or spaces. My question is what is the code for removing spaces and special characters from a string using loops and if statements. Also we cannot use arrays.
