I have to submit a HTML form to a 3rd party website and one of the hidden fields is an XML string. The XML needs escaping before it is sent to the 3rd party.
However when I add the plain XML to the form field it semi-escapes it for me. So then when I use HTMLEncode myself part of the XML is double-escaped. How do I prevent the automatic escaping that appears to becoming from .NET.
Or even better how else can send the escaped XML via the hidden field.

I want to be able to do collision detection with graphics and a picturebox. I have a character that is moving on the screen and I have drawn both the background and the character using graphics. I have put a picturebox in place of the block that is suppose to be like a square which the character has to jump over. How would I do this?

View 9 RepliesOK, I was talking to someone at work and he came up with this idea that I should make a program that notifies me if a certain process is running.
There is a process on another PC that I want to check if it is running or not because due to extreme memory usage issues of the program, we only run one instance of it at a time.
What I want to do is make a program so that I can know if that process is running without having to get up and check. But I'm not sure where to start exactly.
My friend said maybe use the WMI. With the WMI will I need a host/client program, the host detecting status of the process on the other machine which sends a message to the client program on my PC telling me if it is running or not.
I've never done something like this before so all I'm asking for is some direction into what technologies I need to be using and maybe some guides on how to go about this as I have no clue where to start.

I'm working on a problem where i have to allow a user to input a word or phrase and then determine if it is a palindrome (a words that reads the same forwards and backwards) . It also says that the program should use a Boolean-valued function procedure named IsPalindrome that returns the value True when the word or phrase is a palindrome and the value False otherwise.

I need to pull a random word from a text file in my resource folder (visual Studio 2010) and then have a user enter a letter to see if it is in the word. Yes, Hangman game. There is more, but right now I need to pull from that text file for a start. I know what I have is not even close to right under "Get Word Button", but I'm kind of confused about the process.

I am new in forum and in VB 2008 as well, I have a little background in VB6 I am making a program for a project and I need to calculate some mathematical formulas and the results I want to send them in an external device via serial port. To be more specific I have a function, like y(x)=a*x+y0. I get the starting and ending x and y from textbox and I calculate the respective y but I want to store each x and the resulting y(x) in order to send them after the completion of the complete calculation to the serial port.I have tried with datagrid view and dataset but I cannot fill the tables with the results.Does anyone have any idea what I can do.

View 8 RepliesThe following code allows words to be added to a listbox. Add the word to a text file and create a folder with the word as its name. The second part undoes the actions.If I try to delete the word immediately after adding it one of two things happen.
1.An error is reported stating the path cannot be found. Although the listbox index value is correct according to the code the error is pointing at that index +1.
2.The code continues to the point of requesting conformation to delete the folder, still pointing at the index value +1. I the action is confirmed the wrong folder is deleted.
However if I stop debugging, then run the code again all works correctly.Is it likely to persist when the application is compiled?

I�m using the my.computer.network.downloadfile (something like that) to download the html source to a text file. It has been working for about a year now.
Today it stopped working and the downloaded files are empty. I�ve talked to the people at the website, and they say they haven�t done anything. But they always say that.

I have a separate form that you can open and put in your Username and Password for each site. There is a button that when you press it it is supposed to write to a file (C:DesktopAccounts.txt) you username and password so that when it is opened again you will not have to type them again. I had it working perfectly until I added some code so that it will remember if you had the check box checked and have the text box as read only (if check box is not checked). I even tried deleting the new code but it still will not write to the file, but it can read from it if I put the information in manually.

I have a VB.NET 2008 program that crashes about once a month at a customer location. My log file does not include any clues of the crash, the program just dies with the infamous SEND / DONT SEND window.So I need to setup my customers so that in the event of a program crash, a DUMP file is created automatically, without any user intervention. For example:I use a webBrowser control to allow me to surf a page manually. Then, once I am at a specific location, I'd like the automatic interaction to take over.Part of the website requires a log-in and exchanges cookie data.When I try to read the cookie info from the webbrowser control to build the subsequent automatic requests, the cookie content is incomplete.Upon further investigation, it appears that the site sets one of the cookies to "http only". This stops the value being visible to the webbrowser control.Is there another control or method I could use to retrieve this info?

I've already got some code in my software that works for what i'm after, but with a small side-effect. Currently, the USB detection works fine and it also provides me with the drive letter of the newly inserted drive - perfect. However the CD detection also picks up when a memory stick is inserted and if say there was a CD in the drive, it would opt to play the disc instead of look for content on the USB stick. This seems to happen because the USB detection is slower than the CD detection.
I also have code that detects and cancels the autoplay request.

I'm developing a webbrowser (how ussual!) named Hyvar.NET which utilizes the PhishTank database That database is updated once an hour and i need my application to download it on first run. DOWNLOADING it isnt the problem - detecting the first run of the day is.My downloader is set up and ready to roll, but im having heaps of trouble getting the program to determine if its the applications first run of the day or not - if it is of course it will download the database, load it and then continue to run as normal.
Edit: I've tried using the System.Environment class - it got me me nowhere (the loader is in the MyBase.Load [frmMain.vb])
What is the best way for collision detection? I keep trying but I have failed every time.I want my player to not be able to go through my pictureboxes/obstacles from ALL sides.I have 2 player movement down but now I need collision detection. I am trying to save player2's location with a timer using a variable for the location then check if player2 (picturebox2) intersects with picturebox3. If it does then picturebox2 will go back to the location.
