I'm wanting to use a bit of code to in a VB2010 application, however the code is in VB6. How would I go about converting this from VB6 to VB2010? I've personally never done a conversion of complete code like this.

I created a program using VB 2008 to aid me on design work-related calculations that uses Access mdb file for displaying info. and calculations. But I experienced an alarming problem when I converted it to VB 2010 The program execution works in VB 2010 but it can't display the data from an mdb database file.
To simplify and simulate the problem, I created a simple identical program in VB 2008 and VB 2010 showing a window that displays a data extracted from an mdb database file. Both programs run as intended in each environment. When I open the VB 2008 created program under VB 2010, VB 2010 converts it and when I run the program, it doesn't display the data at all.
My problem is when i try to call Application.Run() in a application without a form i get "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." when i run it outside VS. but if ran in debug or release mode it works just fine. i may just be forgetting to setup application right, but ive done it before in this same manor and it worked fine.

Commented out init_timer and init_ready, and now it causes the same error for the myName line. there seems to be something wrong with class Application. btw theres seems to be something wrong with the forum code formatting.
I have made a simple vb application and have used vb 2010 to create it, which all of you would know, uses .NET Framework 4.0. I wanted to use this application at work, however, I found out that my work uses .NET framework 3.5 sp1.
So my question is, is there a way to compile something in VB 2010 that will work on .NET 3.5 sp1? If so, how?

Then unfreeze the screen when the form is populated, to display the populated screen text; in a similar way to the VBA commands Application.ScreenUpdating = False and then Application.ScreenUpdating = True.

I never created something like this. I got all the code to make the backup, now the problem is to create it as a service.
This is my form to the person choose the days and the hour to the process runs and install it as a service, and when it runs to be minimizated on the windows icons near clock and date and another option on another button to make it a service too, but now to load all the time that the windows starts :s

View 2 RepliesSo I'm developing an application in VB2010. The idea is to perform CRUD operations (more or less) to an Access2003 Database. The database is relational, yet I haven't grasped the best architecture to make an application to interact with it. I tough doing a Business layer with a domain model would work. Controllers for each Use case (which are basically CRUD operations) would create Domain Layer object. Yet I don't know yet how to manage the mapping of the objects to/from the database.

My question is I'm trying to let the user input the temperature number and the temperature type at the same time and the program will convert the temperature as instructed
But when I run the program and I type in for example 5,c I get an overflow error but if I just type 5 then it just converts.I'm trying to get the letter to work and not overflow.For example I want the user to have a choice of either typing in a number,f or number,c.
I have a project to do in Visual Basic.My problem is that the outcome is always wrong (ex. instead of 2011 it gives 2000). And i cannot set as Desired unit the Inch(1) or feet(3), it gives the Infinity error. And if i put as Original and Desired unit the inch(1), the outcome is "Not a Number".[code]
View 2 RepliesI am an Australian user so use date format dd/mm/yyyy...my frmMain has a list box that retrieves a list of date values from the access db and displays them in the correct format (15/12/2000 - dd/mm/yyyy). When I update the DB using that same date the date format becomes reversed (ie interprets as 12/15/2000 - mm/dd/yyyy). [code] I believe the problem is something to do with the fact I am enclosing my date in my code with #'s and that somewhere between visual studio and access, the dates are getting flipped. [code]

From what I can understand, the two properties above provide a way to access the FileExtension collection either using an integer or a string index. My problem is that I do not know how to convert this in VB.
I have a Client/Server application. Both Client & Server use to be in 32-bit machines. Every thing was working fine.

I have tried InstallShield 2011, but when i click on Visual Basic .net wizard, it tells me I do not have Visual Studio.NET installed on my system. I am currently using VB2010 Express How can I fix this... or is there a better application available for packaging?

View 2 RepliesI'm creating a program in VB.net that does the following:At a high level I receive a file in email, put the attachment in a monitored folder, import the text file to excel, format the excel, and then email the excel file to a list of recipients.
Here is my plan:
Completed: Outlook VBA to monitor all incoming email for specific message. Once message is received drop attached .txt file in a specific network folder.
Completed: (VB.net) Monitor folder, when text file is added begin processing
Not Complete: (VB.net) Import text file to Excel
Not Complete: (VB.net) Format Excel Text file.(add in a row of data,format column headers with color/size, add some blank columns, add data validation to some of the blank columns that allow drop down selections)
Completed: (VB.net) Save file.
Completed: (VB.net) Send file to list of recipients.
Obviously the items above that are not complete are the bulk of the work, but I wanted to get some advice on what some of you think would be the best way to approach something like this. The import and formatting of the file are causing me some problems because I just can't decide what would be the most efficient way to do this.
The way stated above. Import to excel -> format Having a template excel that contains all of the formatting already done for me and attempting to transition the data to this document (no clue if/how I can do this). Is it even feasible? Have the template already created and then import the text file to a new excel file, then transition that data to the excel template?
Something I thought about, in terms of formatting the document, was to record a macro of me doing all of the formatting that I'm going to need and then attempt to convert that macro into my vb.net code, but I'm not sure if that will work. I will need to verify that the text file comes in the EXACT format every time correct?
Here's 2 questions that I hope someone can help me on. This is in VB.net. I keep on getting this error 'java.io.bufferedInputstream.count is not accessible in this context because it is 'Protected Friend'. Does anyone know how to fix this error?

I try to transfer a vb6 application to vb2010. In the vb6 I start with a login panel that the user enter uid and password autenticate with the DBServer if ok show application main menu and close the login form. the order of the me.close() after the mainform.show() does not change, The application ends.

I have same setup to run in all these 3environment Windows XPs. In English, calculations are perfect; but in Spanish ',' is treated as '.' and '.' is treated as ',' e.g. 12.24 in EN is '12,24' in Spanish. I somehow managed to do it by manually replacing ',' by '.' and vice versa; but this is now not manageable since program is expading like anything. I saved number in DB while installing. User selects his language and so I check, if its Spanish, I explicitly replace "." in labels and text in TextBox to ",".

1. vbNewLine doesn't seem to work. I've also tried vbCrLf and that doesn't work either. I just want to introduce another blank line and not sure why it's not working.
2. Is there a way to use tab print positions to format things so they're not all just aligned left, center or right? (like tab(20); something etc..)

But for some reason I unable to debug it. I place a breakpoint on the line Snake(i).X = (120 - 20 * i) and When I try to see what the values are the second time the loop iterates it simply exits the loop.
