I have made a simple vb application and have used vb 2010 to create it, which all of you would know, uses .NET Framework 4.0. I wanted to use this application at work, however, I found out that my work uses .NET framework 3.5 sp1.
So my question is, is there a way to compile something in VB 2010 that will work on .NET 3.5 sp1? If so, how?
How can I create a VB application in VS2008 without requiring the application be run on a computer with a .NET framework in place?

The program basically uses few reference for example system.io etc.In order for my program to run on another computer, the computer need to have .net framework 2.0 installed.Instead of installing the whole framework, can I just pack the references I used in the program together with the vb.net program.? View 2 RepliesI created a hangman game and It works well when I debug, but when I publish and place it on my son computer, when you guess a letter wrong it shows an error and says it can't find the images. I just it is something that I'm doing wrong but I don't know what. Some of the thing that I have tried is including the images in resources. I believe that it has something to do with the startup path, the path that the images are looking for does not exist. The installer installs the program in the programs file

I created my project using Visual Studio 2010 (Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 Express).The error messages I get say that the program is unable to access the .NET framework. This is because the .NET framework is not loaded onto the other computer and loading it is not an option.I've done some searching on the internet and I found instructions for going from a dynamic library to a static library and building, rather than publishing the finished product for C++ 2010. So, I assume that I need to do something similar but I haven't been able to apply this to VB 2010 Express.The finished product needs to be self-contained, so that the .exe file has all the libraries and compilation instructions it needs.So, is someone able to tell me how to link up the files I need and re-package my project so that it works on any computer that runs Windows.

The monitored computer would have my program installed and the monitoring computer would display, in a form, the information being sent from the remote client.The application does not send any information regarding packets, user names, passwords, etc. It is solely meant for monitoring CPU performance and Network resources remotely.
What would be the best method to send this information over to my host machine?I am programing in Visual Studio 2008 on windows XP. The client machine is also XP. The problem is i do not understand how am i going to run the application on every employee's conputer. View 8 RepliesIn VB6 I load a recordset containg all of the records (6 fields per record)in a table into an XArray and then manipulate the records in the array and then write them back to the original table. The array issorted by the first field (1 to maybe 8000 or more) I need to find records in the array by an ID field and then move them (because of some external criteria that happens many times) from say number 400 to number 375. Then all of the other records between 375 and 399 were renumbered up 1 to fill the gaps left by the move.
The XArray worked well as it could find and also move to a next record easily to facilitate the revisions to each record quickly. Everything is done in VB6 in code and nothing visual needs to be shown to the user until say 2000 of these external changes are complete. What is the best, most efficient way to do this in the .Net framework in VB2010. Datasets, Dataviews. tableadapters, arrays. enums ?

For example, the Fire form will instruct employees that they need to evacuate the building, the Tornado form will instruct employees that they need to go to the basement, etc. I have the forms created where they will display over my own computer when I run the application. I have also figured out how to get the list of computers from Active Directory. Now I am stuck. How do I make the form display on another network computer? Does anyone know how to do this?

I am in the process of developing a messaging framework for a windows application that sends messages to a java application. To be precise when the win app wants to send a message it simply drops the message in a common database table which will be picked up by the java app. The windows application is deployed across 10 application servers (10 instances) over citrix for load balancing.Each instance of the application is capable of sending a message to the java application and each of these messages should have a unique id. From my end I need to make sure every message generated has to carry a unique id so that they can be identified when necessary. All the messages can be cleared every day or two.i am not quite sure about a best method of achieving this. Initially I wanted to create a static method that serves the next available id (incrementing the last id by 1). But this approach willn't guarantee unique number as the application starts only when at least one user is logged on. For e.g .On one server the app starts when a user logs in, he then sends a message and then the application stops when that user logs off. So when a next request for the app comes to that server a new instance will be started.

My problem is when i try to call Application.Run() in a application without a form i get "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." when i run it outside VS. but if ran in debug or release mode it works just fine. i may just be forgetting to setup application right, but ive done it before in this same manor and it worked fine.

Commented out init_timer and init_ready, and now it causes the same error for the myName line. there seems to be something wrong with class Application. btw theres seems to be something wrong with the forum code formatting.

I never created something like this. I got all the code to make the backup, now the problem is to create it as a service.
This is my form to the person choose the days and the hour to the process runs and install it as a service, and when it runs to be minimizated on the windows icons near clock and date and another option on another button to make it a service too, but now to load all the time that the windows starts :s

So I'm developing an application in VB2010. The idea is to perform CRUD operations (more or less) to an Access2003 Database. The database is relational, yet I haven't grasped the best architecture to make an application to interact with it. I tough doing a Business layer with a domain model would work. Controllers for each Use case (which are basically CRUD operations) would create Domain Layer object. Yet I don't know yet how to manage the mapping of the objects to/from the database.
View 8 RepliesI imported some code I found a few months ago for a client server messaging program from vs2003 and everything appeared to be ok, apart from a couple of niggles such as the windows form designer generated code being visible on the main form code page but i could live with that. I just tried to add a splash screen but when I went to the application tab to set it up there is no enable application framework checkbox and no windows application framework groupbox. I tried running my application again and now the xp visual style has gone and it looks terrible, is there anyway to get the application framework back on again or do I have to start a new project and copy and past all my code into the new project.
