View 7 Repliesi am developing an application in VB.net implies some datagridview operations. the appl contains one DGVW with columns fixed programatically, one such column is Datagridviewcheckbox column. the datasource for dgvw is bounded by a datatable. the user needs to enter the values in the GUI.
supposing the user enters the 2x2 matrix values, and the user checked the checkbox last cell in the dgvw. The problem - the last cell value is not updating inside. if ii debug through code, the "cell(2,2).value" reurns null value whereas the rest of them returns the value what i entered.
if i clicked the mouse some where in the dgvw after entering the last cell value, then it is returning the exact value as expected.
I need to display the column header and cell value of the clicked cell in the data grid. For example if I click Argentina from the country column, the text box will display country = Argentina.So far the code I have is, please help me figure out the code for displaying the information in the text box

i have a GridView bound to a DataView. Some columns in the DataView's table are foreignkeys to related tables(f.e. Customer). I want to enable sorting for these columns too, but all i can do is sorting the foreignkey(fiCustomer) and not the CustomerName.

I would like to know the best, or standard, way to accomplish real-time client updates in a small multi-user application using an access data table as a data source.Specifically, this application will be used by 3-4 people. It uses a datatable which is filled on form load and bound to a datagrid at design time. The datatable is stored on a shared drive. The data table on the shared drive is updated in two ways:
1) Users can update the datagrid which then updates the datatable on the shared drive via the data adapter's Update method.
2) A server application does some work on some text files, periodically updating the data table.
I need the clients to reflect the changes to the data table on the shared drive as closely to real-time as possible. I know that the data table stored in memory on the client is disconnected from the data table on the shared drive, so I must query again to get the updates.
1) Is there an alternvative model I can use which is connected, and which will automatically reflect the updates in the data table on the shared drive?
2) If not, what is the best way to check for changes in the data table (so I can know when to call the data adapter fill method)? I am planning to poll the drive for a change to the .mdb file, raise an event and then fill the data adapter when the event is triggered. Honestly I do not understand why I need to write code to update a databse and why it stores it localy. I'd simply rather the system update the individual row after it is scrolled off of.

I adjust the querry to only return 1 row.So it looks like select * from table where ident=@realident..so the problem is i want to use a variable from the form to be the @realident and i want it to auto load when the form loads not have to type it into the tool bar like you have to do by default.Also once the data is returned I would like to be able to edit a field or two in that data and have it save back to the db.

I am an old VB2 programmer and in the process of moving up. In VB2 I could obtain a data row via and index on an access table. I can not find an example on how to do this. I can retrieve a single row using a query, but an index would be faster. I know in Oracle use can use a hirt to direct the query to use the index.Here is what I was during in VB2 (Sample) with no hint.

I have it set up to where, when the form loads, the database is ready to collect the information fields. And then the form closes on the button click to add that data, it does not update that data table view. It adds it once i close the program and debug it again.

Problem two: I need to make a button that will increment a cell that was set as an Int, by one, but can't figure out how to put it into code.
So in this gridview, there is a column for status and I want to have a drop down list with Pass, Pending, Fail appear when the edit button is clicked. View 3 RepliesI'm attempting to copy cells, one at a time, from an Excel 2003 (or 2007) spreadsheet to a Word 2003 (or 2007) table. I'd like the code to be version-agnostic, and so am using late binding. The formatting of the contents of the Excel cell, such as color, underline, strike-through, needs to be preserved. My approach is to use a Word doc as a template. It has a table at the top which I can copy to the end of the doc, add rows as needed, and fill in the word table cells with the data from the excel spreadsheet. Unfortunately, all the formatting disappears. All I get is the text itself.

I'm not sure what goes into the "something" parenthesis and where this code must go. I already tried editting through the data designer but although it shows the column in the DataGridView, it does not save any data or the column into the actual access file.
Attempting to run an SQL statement to UPDATE a column in a table with new data. The column being updated is defined as varchar(40) and the new data is 41 bytes (varchar(41)). I get a generic 'data will be truncated' error message, but no detail on which column caused the problem. I've attached a sample VB program to illustrate the issue. In this scenario, Company is defined as varchar(40).
My question: Can I get a more detailed error message? i.e. can I get an error message that tells me the row and column that the truncation occurs in? Often times, I may be updating hundreds or thousands of rows and only one value in one column from the source file is too large for a database cell. As a related question, does each OLEDB provider create its own error messages. i.e. will the MS SQL Server OLEDB provider potentially give different text in the error message than say the MS Jet OLEDB provider?
