Asp.net - Handle The Timezones For Every Relayed Message?
Dec 14, 2011
I am creating a web chat application using asp.net vb. I have got the chat system to work as messages are sent and relayed back to the clients. But there was something i noticed but never thought it would be a problem. I am from England and the chat application is sitting on servers in America and noticed when the message displayed the time, the times were situated in American time zones. How would i go about setting the timezones that will correspond to there country timezones. So if the message display 17:00 American time, then the message sent to England should display 12:00 English time.
I have an app with clocks on it from around the world. It's used in multiple locations around the world as well, some that observe DST, some that do not.
Is there some way to get the current offset for various timezones from the OS? My preference would be to simply use the OS to GET the offsets, thereby relieving the program of having to figure out the dates and when to reset the clock. That would eliminate the need to be concerned with DST altogether; the offset values could simply be added to the current datetime.utcnow. I'd need to get the offset/current time for Hawaii, Pacific, Mountain, Central, Eastern, UK, France, Germany, Mumbai, China and Australia time zones.
TimeZoneInfo.GetSystemTimeZones can get at some of this data; is there maybe a way to cull it out of that?
I'm writing an app that sends messages over a network to another PC that processes the message and sends back a reply (e.g. a boolean or some other data). My network communication subs (based on WCF) just give me the ability to send a message to the other PC and process any received messages. The issue is that any response received is processed by my designated network message event handler sub, but I have no way of feeding it back to the sub that called for the original message to be sent.
To quickly illustrate, the situation is something like this: Private Function NetSendMessage(ByVal message As String) As Boolean 'Send network message to PC with device connected '.... 'returns true if message sent End Function [Code] .....
I was thinking along the lines of maybe add a NetSendReceive function that, say, MoveRightWheel could call; NetSendReceive would call NetSendMessage, monitor the message queue for its response (perhaps via a delegate/IAsyncResult), and then return the response message (to MoveRightWheel, which would be waiting for it).
i'm trying to add the current time from a different city onto my project. i live in los angeles and the time here is 3am lets say and the time in lima, peru is 3am. given that peru is 3 hrs ahead of us, what would be the code for this?
I have couple of questions with datagridview 1.How to handle the Enter-Key when the user edited the columns value.?I mean, without changing the columns values we can suppress the enter-key by following. No problem. It's working Fine.
Private Sub DataGridView1_KeyDown(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs) Handles DataGridView1.KeyDown If e.KeyCode = Keys.Enter Then Dim numCols As Integer = DataGridView1.ColumnCount Dim numRows As Integer = DataGridView1.RowCount
[code]....
But after if I select any one column & changed the values then if I press <Enter> it's moving to next row. But I want to move it to next column..
2. With Datagridview - I have a column for date. and it's defaut format is mm/dd/yyyy. But Iam looking to read the date by "dd/mm/yyyy" format. Also if the user feed wrong date format then it has to display my Error message. "INVALID DATE"

I wrote an application to handle a joystick with directinput. It works fine if it uses the handle of the main window but it doesnt happen the same if the handle is the one of the component that contains the joystick's operation.
I mean:
main form handle: 15
component handle (which is inside the window and the joystick needs the focus of this component to work): 25
It always work if the handle i initilizate the device is the main form (15).How can i use only the handle of the component?
create a message box that stores my user name, message, and post datetime into the database as messages are sent. Soon came to realise, what if the user changed his name? So I decided to use the user id (icn) to identify the message poster instead. However, my chunk of codes keep giving me the same error. Says that there are no rows in the dataset.
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load Dim name As String Dim icn As String Dim message As String
how to create an error message by message box to tell the user to enter a number only if they key in a character value?
I MEAN AFTER THEY PRESS THE CALCULATE BUTTON
Private Sub btnCalcFat_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnCalcFat.Click Dim intFat As Integer intFat = Integer.Parse(txtFat.Text) lblResultDisplay.Text = txtFat.Text * 9 End Sub
I am using Visual Studio 2005 for coding. I am doing an exercise where I have to create a data lookup program. The program is to illustrate the concepts of using a database to look up information based on user input. The program allows a user to input two search criteria for a product search. The program then displays each individual search result, or record that meets the search criteria in a message box. I am not getting the message box and I don't know why. No errors are present during compiling so I have no indication as to where the problem is.

I am sending a DDE message to a client using System.Text.Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes(item) . However, before the message is actually sent, I would like to get the message coded where if the item="Ask" then item=Ask (string variable) and so on. The code is:
Protected Overrides Function OnRequest(ByVal conversation As DdeConversation, ByVal item As String, ByVal format As Integer) As RequestResult ' Return data to the client only if the format is CF_TEXT

I have configured IIS6 to get .NET to handle css files.I did the following steps
Launch IIS Manager Right-click on Default Web Site Click on the Home Directory tab Under Application Settings click on Configuration.Add a new association for .css and map it to .NET executable:
How can I check if this is working, i.e. I want to change the default style of a page depending on the url, i.e. if the referer url is http://intranet, it should continue to use the old existing style style1.css, if the referer url is http://intranetv2, it should use the new style style2.css.
I am trying to get a handle on the correct way and easiest way to do things. By easiest I am not talking about being lazy just accessing and modifying later on. I have started using my own classes and such but I have a few questions. Sometimes I want to create a control on the fly through code instead of using the designer. Should I create this control in the main form file or in a separate class? If I make it in another class it seems harder to access later on. Then again if I dont know that the control is going to be created(user clicks a button to add a control) how can I access it? Also it seems alot harder to access certain things when it is in another class. For example if I create a new window in a class and then want to check if it is there or not it is alot harder to do.
I need the intPtr for a form. Control.FromHandle(control) gives me the control from a handle, but I need the opposite--get the handle from a control. How do I do this?
I am trying to create a small utility that tracks desktop usage in detail, to the level of individual text boxes etc.... in other applications. However, it is proving quite tricky. I thought I had it nailed using the Windows api. The below code is just a snipet of the code but essentially it provides me the handle of the control that the mouse is over. I thought from here, it would be easy to to the same thing but to provide the handle of the control that the cursor was actually clicked on, for example, if someone is filling in a text box in an application, they would not necessarily move the mouse to get to the text box, they may tab to it. Does anyone know if there is a way to get the handle of the control that is in use?

I am going mad about getting the process id for one existing handle on VB2008.I tried both GetWindowThreadProcessId(hwnd, pid) and GetProcessId(hwnd), while PID always returns 0, I tried the same things in VBA of Excel, it works perfect, so this is somewhat weird,
I have referred DLL in my project. I have to handle the event from DLL in VB.net code. I guess we can do using WithEvents. Can you give me complete picture?
I am having a SP run in my VB application every 10 seconds to check for any new rows that have been inserted to the database since the last check. What is the best way to do this? Most likely it will be 0 or 1 rows, but I am afraid at random times it maybe more than 1 and so I thought I would fill it in a DataSet, but I came in here to see if there are any other better ways. If dataset is the best way, how do I do a For Each Row in the dataset to process some VB code for each row?
I read stuff from a SQL DB (database) using a data set. Some of the columns in the DB may contain NULL. I want to go through the table in the dataset and print, or use in some other way, the data. But when I try to use a certain data that corresponds to a NULL in the DB my program crashes. How can I detect - in the dataset - that it has no value and that I shouldn't try to use it?
