View 7 Replieswe have a vb.net application with send and receive mailing also. Now we have added a session timer of 30 min but the users are complaining that they are facing a problem when they write a long text message or while composing they get busy in something else and when they return back to continue composing message , they are redirected to a session expiry page, and their long text message is gone forever. So I am new to this and I was thinking like , when the user is in compose message the text should be automatically saved to drafts like hotmail.

create a message box that stores my user name, message, and post datetime into the database as messages are sent. Soon came to realise, what if the user changed his name? So I decided to use the user id (icn) to identify the message poster instead. However, my chunk of codes keep giving me the same error. Says that there are no rows in the dataset.
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load

how to create an error message by message box to tell the user to enter a number only if they key in a character value?

I'm making a simple decoder. Type a message in the "message" text box and it spits out a code in the "code" text box. If you pop a code into the "code" text box it spits out the message in the "message" text box. Seems simple, right? Well here's my problem. I typed "The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog" to test it and it will put a lowercase "f" at the beginning, put letters that aren't supposed to be in there in there, and replace what should be upper case letters with lower case. I commented out the code for replacing symbols because it seemed to work fine before I put them in the code but still the same result. I checked over the code to see if I mixed stuff up. Like I accidentally put the replacement for a lower case "e" as the replacement for a lower case "h" but I can't find anything.

I am using Visual Studio 2005 for coding. I am doing an exercise where I have to create a data lookup program. The program is to illustrate the concepts of using a database to look up information based on user input. The program allows a user to input two search criteria for a product search. The program then displays each individual search result, or record that meets the search criteria in a message box. I am not getting the message box and I don't know why. No errors are present during compiling so I have no indication as to where the problem is.

When I have two cards match in my program, a message box will pop out and say "match". If the message box does appear, how can I then get a "1" to then be added to a text box within the program? I would like to have the points accumulate for each "match" message box that appears.
I had an idea for an MSN (Windows Live Messenger) "addin" today, which I thought was a great project for me to try.Basically, I want people to be able to type LaTeX code in their MSN conversations, and my application parses the LaTeX code and displays (probably in a separate window, but if possible inside the conversion window) the math formula.
I am probably not going to get it to send the image in the conversion window, but I will be happy if I can get it to display in a separate window.Basically, all I need for this to work is to capture the text that a user receives over MSN. If it contains a certain token (like "$$ ... $$") then I can try to parse the text between the dollar signs, and if it is valid LaTeX I can show an image of the result in a separate window.
So, I probably don't even need an actual MSN plugin / addin, if I can just get the received text by some other means.
1. some basic Windows Live Messenger add-in programming examples / tutorials? I've never done this before, and have no clue how to do it... VB/C# are both fine.
2. how to retrieve the text that you receive using either an addin, or some sort of windows API ?
So I'm looking for either an addin, or, if possible, a completely separate application that basically monitors each and every window and sees if it's from MSN, and then retrieves the received text...
I keep getting an error message in my code "text is not a member of string" on each line similiar to: TextBoxVerb1 = TextBoxVerb1.text.Trim and I can't figure it out. Here is the code:

Dim str As String

View 1 RepliesI am trying to learn a little more about reading and writing Outlook mail messages. So I've written a small app to read my mail messages and pull certain lines from the body. When I run the app I get to a certain point and start getting error messages telling me I have a limit on the number of messages I can have open. With that I figured something is not closing properly. All of the examples I've checked out (I've been at this most of the morning) I've not seen one thing where the code is closing the message after it's been read. I've included the code and as you can tell there's not much to it.

I need to retrieve the actual text of a message box from another application. When using WM_GETTEXT, the values returned are the title of the message box, and the text of the control button (in this case "OK").
My issue is that what I really need is the actual text message from the box itself. I've been researching this for days and can't find a way to do this. Nothing I have found so far tells me how to do this.
I can't rename my text boxes, it gives me an error message" The name txtjeffSales is already in use by another component. But I just created the project aand there is no way that anything else has that name, even if I try slight variations of that name it just won't let me do it, wtf is going on here? Attached image(s)
View 3 RepliesI am creating a quiz game and I am having the users initials and scores saved to a text file. I then want a messagebox to display the text file.
I have two major problems.
1) I can get the text file to add a new line each time, but the message box displays all the text in one line.
2) The first entry in the messagebox is "form1" even though that isn't in the text file anywhere.

How can I assign a value to a message box for when the default value displayed in the text box is unchanged. ie. If my default value is 17 and the user clicks ok without retyping a number, the Input value displayed in a textbox will be 0.
Currently I have:
Public Class Form1
Dim MyValue As Double
Private Sub But_EnterInput_Click(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles But_EnterInput.Click
MyValue = CDbl(InputBox("Input a value", "Data Input", "17", 200, 400))
[code]....
This works however if the user types 17, the textbox will read 0. not what i want.
i am making a mini calculator and I have two problems with my current validation setup in the code. The code concerned is below:[code]Basically, I only want to allow numbers in the text box. When I enter a letter for example, the message comes up ok, but then when the box is clicked away, the rogue letter remains. Can someone tell me how to clear it properly? Also, when I use the backspace button in the box (pretend I want to change my input from 3 to 37), then the messagebox is prompted when I don't want it to be. I only want it to appear when a letter is entered.
1) How to I clear the banned characters from the text box after the message is clicked off
2) How do I get VB to ignore any backspace presses to prevent the messagebox from coming up.
I would like to "get" a text from outlook message, using VB.NET shared add-in.
First, I've made VBA script and it worked well. Here it is:
