I am developing a website where I need to send confirmation link to the user's e-mail account when he/she signs-up.
When user clicks this link then a field userEnable in database changes from "false" to "true".
How do I send a confirmation e-mail to a user when user clicks on the signup button.
When user clicks on this confirmation link then how would the field UserEnable change from "false" to "true"
I am using asp.net 4.0 with VB.NET as the language and SQL Server 2008 for my database.
I have a gridview which can be filtered from one or more values in a querystring. That all works great: e.g. "?subject=Maths&authorName=Bond_James&type=Magazine" The values passed to the query string come from 3 drop down lists: Subject, Author, Type.What I'd like is when the user presses "Filter" it will take the selected values from the drop down lists and pass them to the querystring - it could be 1 value, 2, or all 3 (like above).
The drop down lists have an item called "All Subjects" / "All Author" / "All Type" each with a value of -1. The idea being that if the user leaves these items selected then the Filter button just ignores them.

EDIT: I changed the default values of the drop down lists to "" - this leaves the URL looking messy though ?author=&subject=&type= This works, is it the best way?
I have a project that I would like to add a URL link and an email link to in the Help/About dialog. How can I do this? Is it possible to add HTML code to a VB project? This is not a Web application.

The file size of the attachment is 396KB, upon the recipient receiving the email outlook shows the file size as 543Kb. Strange thing is if I send an email with the same attachment using outlook the file size is 396Kb.I understand that file sizes can increase due to the attachment being base 64 encoded as opposed to just raw binary.What I am failing to see is why outlook send a file which is 396KB in size but in code when sending it, the same file is 543Kb.
how would i implement a way that i would not hard code the email message that the application send to email recipients? how will i also include email message formatting (text in bold, italic, etc.)?

I picked up some code that is building a Gridview with a SQLDataAdapter.
One of the columns is an email address that I would like to make a hyper link to open Outlook (Users defautl email client).[code]...
What I am looking for is using a URL link such as [URL] to open my application and read the params using GET. I do not want to use the click once method to do this, because I want the application to load up without the starting up bar at the topleft. I know it could be done but I could not find anywhere to do it at. You can see an example used over at curse.com where they use a link like [URL] to launch their app and download the item. Another example is with Ventrilo where you can use [URL] links to start vent and connect to a server. The reason I want this is because I plan to use it to give my customers a way to give their clients a way to connect to their servers with my software using a simple URL.

I somehow managed to make my company's website in 9 languages, using Visual Studio 2010 / VB / ASP.NET 4.0. I believe I'm using sessions. But you can tell for sure if you see the code provided below. I know this message is long, but I really need help.
It's a multilingual site, and I managed to put flags on the homepage. When I click a flag, the page's text changes to that language. When you click the French flag, it gets the information from the "FR" .resx resource file in my apps_GlobalResources folder. It stays on that language for the end-user's entire session. Great! Well, not so great.
The URL, for instance, about.aspx, remains about.aspx. Granted, the text changes to French, but I've been told that it's recommended to make it look like, if the client chooses French, for example, [URL] (For reference, if anybody is kind enough to delve into this issue, which may be a simple one, all of my files I've used in this are included below -- and they're kinda lengthy)

View 1 RepliesI wrote a program that runs on a timer and pings the computers on the network, if any of them go offline it emails me. The problem is the timer runs every 20 seconds and if a computer is rebooted I get email 15 - 20 times until it comes back online.
Is there a way for it to only email me once every 20 minutes or so? Or to only email me if a different computer goes offline, then I don't keep getting the same email.
I am trying to send registration/ activation information via email, but don't want to store my authentication within the vb.net app and therefore not wanting to use .NET SMTP.
