Automatically Generate ComClass Attribute And Guids?

Apr 27, 2009

I've run across some VB.NET code that explicitly creates three GUID constants and uses them in a class's ComClass attribute. I've written COM-aware classes in the past just by checking the "Make COM-Visible" and "Register for COM interop" options in the project options. Is this explicit code simply unnecessary, or is it doing something above-and-beyond what those two options do? Here's a snippet:

<ComClass(MenuHandler.ClassId, MenuHandler.InterfaceId, MenuHandler.EventsId)> _
Public Class MenuHandler
Public Const ClassId As String = "A2204623-A902-44d4-B524-FDFFCD176E53"

VS 2010 - XML ReplaceChild Automatically Add Unwanted NameSpace Attribute

Apr 26, 2012

I am building a tool that takes an XML document and replaces XML nodes with a different XML node using .ReplaceChild. This all works great. The nodes get changed to the proper nodes. Where I seem to be having an issue is that the new node is inserted with an xmlns="" attribute, which I am not specifying for it to do, nor do I want as an attribute. How can I stop the ReplaceChild from inserting this as an attribute, or am I going to have to remove the attribute after the node is replaced?

Dim imgSrcNode As XmlElement = xmlDoc.CreateElement("img")
Dim imgSrcAttr As XmlAttribute = xmlDoc.CreateAttribute("src")
imgSrcAttr.InnerText = "./art/" + imageName.Substring(0, imageName.LastIndexOf("."))
imgSrcNode.Attributes.Append(imgSrcAttr)
mmlNode.ParentNode.ReplaceChild(imgSrcNode, mmlNode)

Resulting XML change:
<img src="./art/equJI161298_1" xmlns="" />

XML change desired:
<img src="./art/equJI161298_1" />

DB/Reporting :: Automatically Generate Update/insert/delete Commands

May 18, 2010

I followed an example from a VB 2008 Wrox book on creating, binding and updating a data set but I am having a problem. The code is supposed to automatically generate the update/insert/delete statements for me (according to the book) but when I call the update command, the data is not saved.

Here is my code

Code:
Imports System.Data
Imports System.Data.SqlClient
Public Class FrmAddExpenses

[Code]....

After the form is loaded, I change the EntryDate field (which is a DateTimePicker) and close the form which should save the change but it doesn't work.

Find All Guids In Some Text?

Mar 13, 2009

I've got a bunch of web page content in my database with links like this:

That Guid unique identifier is the ID of another page in the same database.

I'd like to crawl those pages and check for broken links.

To do that I need a function that can return a list of all the Guids on a page:

Function FindGuids(ByVal Text As String) As Collections.Generic.List(Of Guid)

ComClass - Define A Coclass With A Default Interface

Jan 29, 2010

I am trying to re-code a com object that was developed in c++ using vb.net. I have successfully recreated the methods and have been able to register my new vb.net com class with regasm and use it from vb-script. The issue is that the previous class used a coclass with a default interface allowing us to create objects in our vb scripts by simply calling the library.

eg.

Code:
dim z
set z = createobject("library")
my com object requires that i do the following

eg.

Code:
dim z
set z = createobject("library.interface")

because we do not want to redo all our vb scripts is there a way to have my code function in the same manner as the previous c com object? with out getting into great detail my vb code to create the class looks as follows which is essentially what vb.net provides me. for simplicity I have not added my methods. <Attribute>: ParamArray In Constructor

Nov 10, 2010

A former co-worker wrote a class in C# that was to be used as an attribute. I'm having to convert his work to VB (yeah, it's pointless and way more work than necessary, but management thinks it's a good idea). Unfortunately I'm having an issue because one of the main properties of the class is an ArrayList which is set with a ParamArray in the constructor. The class looks like this (note I've tried to abstract out the problem, so this is a simplified version of the class only)

<AttributeUsage(AttributeTargets.Field Or AttributeTargets.[Property])> _
Public Class LabelAttribute
Inherits Attribute
Public Sub New()

[CODE]........

In the first one, there is just the single label being added. No Problem. In the second one there are 2 different labels being added. Again, no problem. The third one, however, is a problem because it's assuming that the "Description", which is supposed to be the description is instead being interpreted as another label.

This wasn't a problem in C# because it could be set as follows:

[CODE].................

Of course this doesn't work in VB because optional parameters aren't referred to by name as they are in C#. As a stopgap I've changed the constructor to allow only a single label like this

CODE]..................

But that undermines some of what this class is meant to do. Does anyone know how, or even if I can get the same basic functionality to work in VB?

Think there must be a way to make the existing design work. Imagine this class was built into a library that I could not modify. Would I be forever forbidden from setting Description because of this design?
