I need to create a new tree view, that is linked to a particular table.
Each row in the table has a parent id that links back to the table's primary key, and that defines the node hierarchy. So that relationship needs to be indicated in the databinding.
Am I able to use the standard treeview control in Visual Studio 2008, or do I need something extra to make this work?

i am getting error when i connect to oracle DB. am using the connection string statement using ODBC DRIVER. i want to get some data from orcle db and bind it into some control. oracle client is installed in my machine.my db name is PINDB it's in another server. View 7 RepliesI have an object databound to a WinForm. One property, BOLNumber is bound to a textbox on the form. When you change the value in the form, the underlying BOLNumber property is changed. But the property setter does some "formatting" to the value. I want to BOLNumber textbox to reflect the changes to the value made in the property setter immediately upon the textbox losing focus. I tried implementing the INotifyPropertyChanged interface, but I am either doing something wrong or misunderstanding something it would seem. How do I get the databound control to reflect the changes to the underlying data source?

1. I have a DataGridView box, that is connected to a MySQL database via the 'Data Source'. I am trying to do the datagridview1.rows.add("info here"), however i receive an error i cannot do this programmatically. I DO know the code to post to MySQL via the "insert into" la la la.However, I was curious if I can do this via the datagridview a bit..easier/simpler, such as a "datagridview1.rows.add(stuff)" sorta thing.
2. I am attempting to make a custom control, and as with ANY control, they have their.. settings. Example, a textbox, or label, has so you can set the Text. and color, etc.Others, have it (such as datagridview) have the little icon on the control itself, where you click it, and it opens a small window with settings.

View 3 RepliesI refreshed my data sources to include additional items from the SQL Server databases and it appears that my entire data source from my VB.NET project disappeared.I am using Entity Framework. I may have clicked on something wrong, not quite sure. Unfortunately I can't recreate the Data Source without creating a new Entity and Data Model.I can delete the entry in the App.Config file and recreated it, however things aren't quite right.Is there a way that I can recreate my Data Source from the entry that is in my App.Config file...since that appears to have remained intact.BTW, I can go to my Data Model and successfully refresh from there, however my project isn't connecting to the database so I have quite a number of errors until I can get reconnected.
View 4 RepliesIs there a way to bind the text property of a control to an expression? I have a user control that I add to a FlowLayoutPanel. You can see I have 4 controls in the FlowLayoutPanel below. The first control is a LinkLabel and the other three are my user controls which are numbered 1, 2, & 3. I'd like to bind the label that shows the 1, 2, or 3 to the user controls index within the FlowLayoutPanel.
If I happen to remove the 2nd user control I want the 3rd user control to now display 2. I could use the FlowLayoutPanel ControlAdded or ControlRemoved events, but wanted to see if I could do some binding first.
If I need access to the value of a user control's property BEFORE PreRender, would I need to base the custom control off of one of the preexisting data controls (repeater, listview,etc.)?One of my user controls features a gridview control that is configured based on the user control's properties on which it resides. Several of the key properties alter the SQL Statement for the underlying recordsource. I'm now in a situation where the property that sets the WHERE statement for the SQL Statement needs to tied to a value in the user control's parent FormView. Think of the formview as displaying a customer detail record. The user control takes the customer's account number and then displays data from a related table such as Customer Contact Names. Since the gridview is created before the control's prerender event, working within the prerender event doesn't seem efficient.

I am not the original author of this software project and the code is poorly documented. I am mainly a Java/C++ developer.The program displays the tree structure and allows files and folder to be selected. The program is getting errors with FileSystemTreeView when trying to return nodes on a system with a reserved partition.Here is what is happening: tree.SelectedNode = tree.Nodes(0) 'returns error with system reserved partition.calling, GetDriveList() will properly return all the drive letters - and not throw an error. Only when trying to get a tree.Node() or tree.load() is the error occurring.

View 1 RepliesI just downloaded VS 2010 beta to try my hand at re-learning (from scratch it seems) some of this to do a somewhat basic app. At the moment I have a tree view and it contains/will contain paired parent and child data. There's a Title (the parent) and a URL (child) and that's it with regard to depth. There will be potentially lots of these pairs. That said there may be some options associated with those pairs that would also need to be stored later. I'm thinking the best way to deal with this is to store the data in XML format but, of course, I've never really done much with XML though I can physically read it. Could someone point me or provide a piece of code that saves and restores a tree? [Code]
View 1 RepliesSo another first timer question.I have user entered data from a form that gets put into separate strings. On another form i want this data to populate a Tree view when the user presses a button "Add data". There will be only one stage of parents and child. oParent and oChild. The oParent string will only have like 5 items but the oChild will have like 30 and these will be repeated for each oParent. Not sure how populate this, i cam guessing with some sort of For Each i in oParent, add i or whatever, but not sure of the syntax.
