I'm using VB.net 2005. I have working programs that I populate DataGridViews with something like the following:

i have a form issue and return form. where Issuer_ID is the primary key, this form uses for boht emp and for student issuing book. at run time the user has to select a radio button for student or for employe. if he select student so after entering the full information when he press submit button so student query is execute and data stored in database, keeping the Employee field null, and when user select the employee radio button and after pressing the submit button, so employee querry executes and stores data in employee field, keep the student filed null. remmber and Student ID and Employee ID or foreign keys in isuee and return table and radiobuttons are not the part of database, its just on form.
now i want that when a user gives his issuer ID and at the lost focus event of issuer id, it is checked that if the record exists so the data is bind on the form, if does not exist so the user has to make entry, but if the data loads on form so how user will find out that this data is of student or of employee?
I have a variable defined as follows:Dim iRows As List(Of String())I've also been converting that to a list of lists just to make it easier to work with.Dim iRows As List(Of IList(Of String))I would like to bind that list to a GridView using the contents of the nested array/list to dynamically define the columns. I don't know ahead of time how many columns there will be, but I do know that they are all the same throughout the list.

2nd question. How can i bind other queries from different table to these columns. like Column[2]and Column[3] should come from a different query.
I am working with two different connections because the information I need is stored in two different locations. One being Oracle, the other being Access. I pull all the information I need from Access with the exception of one field which I pull from Oracle. When I add this field to my datatable, it adds it to the end. I am wanting the column that I add to be between column 1 and 2 of my current datatable. Anyone know the best way to do this? From what I could find, there wasn't a way to re-arrange columns. Here is my code.
Dim da As New OleDbDataAdapter(" SELECT tblSummary.WorkOrderNumber, tblLabor.Crew, tblLabor.NumberOfMechanics, tblLabor.NumberOfHoursPerMechanic, tblTasks.TaskNumber, tblTasks.TaskDescription FROM (tblLabor tblLabor INNER JOIN tblTasks tblTasks ON

I am looking to define data types by fields in SQL Server 2005. My source is an Excel spreadsheet and I cannot define by columns because each row requires a set of definitions applied to each field in that row. Ex, row 1 requires field1 to be CHAR while in row 2 field 1 needs to be DATE.

I want to select column 'F1' from an excel spreadsheet and dump the data into my datatable 'oleDT'. How do I map the column F1 to the column i've added called 'colTest' ? When i call Fill, the dataTable has 2 columns, which are 'colTest' full of nulls and a created column called F1.[code]...

View 7 RepliesIf I need access to the value of a user control's property BEFORE PreRender, would I need to base the custom control off of one of the preexisting data controls (repeater, listview,etc.)?One of my user controls features a gridview control that is configured based on the user control's properties on which it resides. Several of the key properties alter the SQL Statement for the underlying recordsource. I'm now in a situation where the property that sets the WHERE statement for the SQL Statement needs to tied to a value in the user control's parent FormView. Think of the formview as displaying a customer detail record. The user control takes the customer's account number and then displays data from a related table such as Customer Contact Names. Since the gridview is created before the control's prerender event, working within the prerender event doesn't seem efficient.
View 1 RepliesI have a form called studentForm which has a studentCombobox, studentTextbox and a studentDatagridView
In the constructor of the studentForm I need to bind studentCombobox to the StudentbindingSource of the main form and to bind studentDataGridView to appropriate binding source in the mainForm.So that this datagrid view displays all the bookings for the studentID currently selected in studentComboBox
studentComboBox.DataSource = MainForm.StudentBindingSource
studentComboBox.DisplayMember = "StudentID"
studentDataGridView.DataSource = MainForm.StudentDataSet
studentDataGridView.DataMember = "Names "
This is the code I wrote in the constructor
I am trying to bind my SQL param's qurey to bind to a table. My problem is i get this error "Fill: SelectCommand.Connection property has not been initialized."

I'm currently refactoring an old Visual Basic DLL (VB.Net), which stores all of its data in one module called Globaldefinitions as public fields. There are about 200 fields, referenced thousands of times all around the code:
Public Module Globaldefinitons
Public a As Short
...
Public zz10 As Double
[Code]...
I need to change the module into a class with non-shared fields. This means, each and every of these thousands of references needs to reference the instance of that class:
globalDefinitionsInstance.a = 5
How do I go about this efficiently?
Regular expressions operating on the source fall flat. Refactoring tools like Re-Sharper or CodeRush don't seem to offer this functionality. Visual Studio 2010 cannot do it automatically either.
Class Foo
ReadOnly name As String
Public Sub New(name As String, dependentUpon As Foo)
Me.name = name
[code]....
The output of New Bar() is:
Dependent created. Dependent upon nothing.
Independent created. Dependent upon nothing.
It seems fields are initialized in the same order as they appear in the source code, which (a) leads to an unexpected result, and (b) seems a little puzzling, given that one is normally not permitted to read from uninitialized variables in .NET, yet that seems to be working fine above.I would've expected VB.NET to be smart enough to initialize referenced fields first, and only then those that reference it; i.e. I'd have liked to see this output instead:
Independent created. Dependent upon nothing.
Dependent created. Dependent upon Independent.
how to get VB.NET to behave like that instead, without simply having to swap the declaration order of dependent and independent inside class Bar?
I'm trying to create a table in Word using data from a table in Access. There are four fields in the access table that I need. 3 fields are text which I can populate the Word without any issues. However the fourth field is a memo with >255 characters.I'm struggling to come up with the proper code to allow me to populate the Word field with the memo data that has more than 255 characters. The code I have so far is listed below. But when it hits the memo field, it crashes on the line I marked with **. I know it's not text, but I've tried many different field types, but nothing has worked so far.[code]...
View 1 RepliesMy intent is to have the code - on a button.click event - check the Username and Password fields and return an error depending on which is wrong. Or if both are wrong, return a different error message. I've set the username as parts and the password as parts (still learning how to use external authentication). [Code]

I want to list all the true results in a form which the user is then able to navigate through. What would be the best way to go about doing this?
My goal is to connect to my database either manually or using an sqladapater, and get information from two of my databases on sql server 2005. Then I want to take this information and on run-time begin to add/subtract/divide/multiply certain columns and place the information into other columns. I can do this in queries, however, I want to do it on run-time what is the best way to achieve this.I had some of this working, but I just want to start fresh and see how you would go about doing this.

I'm currently developing an application with a reasonably complex DataGridView that allows the user to build the lines of a sales document: Quantitiy, Description, Price, etc with some additional fields to help calculate price based on cost or discount i'm sure you get the jist - all this means we're not just diplaying data but adding and manipulating it - It also means there's mainly decimal fields, nit just simple text fields
Now, i'm new to VB.net, so i've perhaps done things a bit backwards during my learning curve, namely designing and coding my DGV before creating the underlying database table and binding to it - so as i'm sure you can image there's a bit recoding to do to allow for the fact that it's now bound to a datasource.
I'd got the DGV working just how a wanted it to, but now that i've bound it to a datasource i'm hiting multiple problems with: Formating the appearance of figures in the DGV Problems with blank fields while enering data (before the i try to save the data back to the database) How the DGV is functioning - it seems to behave differently when adding lines to a new sales document than it does when adding lines to an existing sales document
And given that when saving edits to an existing line i need to provide a valid update command i'm begining to think that it might be easier to scrap the databinding altogether and just Select, Add and Edit the database with code rather than binding the DGV in the IDE
I've read various threads about avoiding databinding due to it's limitations, but i've also read that it's far better in later versions of Visual Studio and .net. and i'm using VS2010
I'd just like some advise as to whether my gut feeling is right or whether i should persevere with databinding the DGV. i've noticed some quirks of databinding while working with other controls such as text and combo boxes, but i've overcome these and the result seems to be easier than coding the data transfer manually.
But i'm really struggling with databinding the DGV and the fact that i'm dtatbinding to a seperate table to the rest of the controls is leaning me away from databinding
I have the below Linq query that is returning the data but I need to aggregate the columns to group on the Period and Sum the Count columns. How do I go about doing this?

I am using the following code to alter an table imported from an Excel spreadsheet
Dim SQL As String = "ALTER TABLE receipts ADD payee integer, account integer, category integer, reconciled boolean"
Dim dataread As New OleDb.OleDbCommand()
dataread.Connection = Connection1

Both ExecuteNonQuery() actions yields the exception message {"Syntax error in field definition."}The error message does not happen with the first if the boolean column is not there (I tried Tes/No as a definition - but that also failed.The second query to modify the ID column from autonumber to integer I assume fails because it is a Primary KeyHas?

And I want to have:
code:
How can I organize the column?
how to execute this SQL Statement

Given Fields:
T_Data= f_id, f_Desc, f_CreationDate, f_CreationTime, f_System1, f_System2
